Preston/Sheff Wed/Ipswich – Awaydays
at 17:55:18

If there's anything I look forward to more than the match reports, it's these. I wonder who the other reader is? Reveal yourself! (my guess is Nix, given literally everything she posts I could have written myself word for word, to the extent that I sometimes wonder if I once inadvertently set up another account from which I post in my sleep).

The Motherwell thing is a curve ball - I've never quite worked out when & where the QPR gene started in the Whittingham family, but like many, I'm damn glad it did.

Royals fall victim to Roberts' redemption story - Report
at 09:57:17

Late 70s.
My twin obsessions are QPR and punk / new wave.
I discover that upstairs at Record & Tape Exchange in Notting Hill, you can get new / nearly new 7" singles way cheaper than in other record stores (it is a dumping ground for journalists, DJs and music industry bods who either don't like a track or get duplicates).
Every time I go, I am more & more spoilt for choice. I'm getting greedy. One day, I realise all the 'management' work downstairs, upstairs is where the cooler than thou punks are far more interested in teasing their well gelled hair than watching customers. With enough money for 4 singles but desiring 5, slipping a copy of Identity by X Ray Spex into my bag is easy as the proverbial shelling of peas (which I've never actually done, but legend has it that it's - well, very easy).
I'm sweating cobs as I go downstairs and head for the exit, but it proves to be the easiest heist ever.
Two weeks later I return, this time looking at stealing at least as many as I pay for. As I head for the stairs, a management bod shouts, "mate, didn't you see the sign?" I follow the direction of his pointing: "All bags must be left at the downstairs counter before going upstairs." In addition, some sort of pioneering early version of CCTV has been introduced.
This is all clearly down to ME. An inventory has revealed X Ray Spex has gone walkabout. This barefaced theft cannot be allowed to continue.
Due to me, hundreds of thousands of innocent record (and tape) buyers are now subject to police state-like suspicion & surveillance.
And QPR get relegated, never to scale such heights again - and each time they threaten to do so, it will be cruelly snatched away from them (see Tel to Barca, the Gerry / Rodney / Thompson fracas, Tango & Cash ballsing up the summer window to extract maximum bang for their buck etc).

Willock and Johansen find QPR’s happy place — Report
at 20:30:16

Having sent the juniors to watch the match live, I settled for Andy & Nick. Delighted to confirm that Nick has nailed Iroegbunam already - I now await him starting to roll the 'R', Barrrrbet style.

Andy, on the other hand, copped out and went with 'Tim'. He also is clearly not sure whether the correct pronunciation for our new wizard left back is pal (as in, "you lookin' at me pal" ), or Paarrrl (as in, "do come into the Paarrrlour darling) - so he settled for Kenneth.

At least five LOL lines in this belter - my favourite being " In Gary Rowett land, this counts as nuance."

It's your site / your graft Clive - and despite being one of the glass half fullers who didn't feel the need to spleen-vent on Tues night / Weds am, and mentioned as much on here, I'm sure none of us has a problem with the site being a reflection of your current mood...the consistently superb writing, regardless of mood / result, being a more than fair trade off if we aren't in full agreement.

As you summarise, sunlit uplands it ain't for the vast majority of us right now. I'm managing to keep Rangers in the 'escapism' bottle just now, please may they give me and all of us more convincing reasons to do so though.

End of Term Report 21/22 — Defence
at 13:48:13

This piece just made me feel...sad. Though only focusing on one area of the team, it encapsulates how the hope turned to despair...not only in terms of results, but that belief that maybe, just maybe, we were getting things right off the field.

I keep repeating the mantra to myself; Dieng / Dickie / Dunne / Field / Willock / Chair - great starting point for new gaffer (even if we sell one, it ain't bad)...but just now it all feels like...well, like it's a mess again.

Coming full squared circle - Report

Thanks for a wonderful season of reports & previews Clive - you never dip below that very high bar you’ve set yourself.

It’s all a bit raw right now, but I think in time we will look back on this season (and Warbs’ tenure) very fondly - some high quality football, a lot of very likeable players, some awesome away days.

This was my 50th season of support- when I look back, those three factors all rate high in the seasons I remember most vividly.

Out of the darkness cometh light - Report

It's often been said that if you lose the hardcore away following, you're finished as a manager. Warms the cockles of my heart that the opposite is true here, and hoping common sense prevails.

First goal is pure Warbs ball, and from Dozzell's rightly lauded and decisive touch onwards, is constructed by players we can expect to be here next season. Hope!

I have been exiled in Nottingham for 27 years.

Everything in your opening words is so true, not just the wannabe journos, but the fanbase as a whole.

I’ve been listening to this shit for half my life now. Luckily for my kids, since living here, they’ve rarely been better than us, giving us ammo to repel the piss taking after the annual City Ground capitulation.

I dread this fixture like no other, but with the CG in walking distance of my house, can never not go.

Think of us if it’s a spanking. Not that I’m glass half empty glass about tonight’s prospects, oh no…

Got me excited that, I must admit. And I've long agreed with you about how for the 95% of clubs that will never win a League, they really should embrace the cups.

However, in terms of the central theme of building a support base, I'd still argue the importance of more than sporadic league success.

We have a core group of 5 tight knit Rs who came together between 1977-82. We were all 'first generation', our choice was not family-influenced - and none of us were true locals - the odd west London link here and there, but nothing that overly influenced our choice.

None of us partnered up with a fellow Ranger either (tho all our partners are now 'fans' to some level), but between us we've managed to sire & bring up 12 new generation Rangers - although none of us lives in West London.

Clearly these 12 (born between 1994-2008) have not witnessed any cup success, but they have found a way to love our club. The Olly Mk1 years, Warnock promotion, the novelty of seeing us in the Prem and Eze / Chair / BOS combo all played pivotal roles. They have stuck with it through many a wilderness season because the DNA of the club / support base (and the gallows humour when required) has seen them through. Some of them met up at Peterborough on Sat having travelled from different ends of the country, despite all bar one of us oldies not being in attendance. I think non-stop wilderness years in the League, and they'd all have drifted off to more local clubs with their mates, even with the odd cup run.

Sure stories such as this are commonplace?

1. A Northern Classic.

2. I think 5s for Seny & Moses a bit harsh, but maybe I'm just soft.

3. Please can one of McCallum or Wallace get fit soon - #releasewillock.

4. About the lack of a Willock song...for ease, can Chr-issy - Chr-issy Chrissy just take the place of Niko in the Chaz chant?

5. This line sum up my 49 years at the QPR coalface:

Called out to the police station in the middle of the night to bail out the errant child you cannot help but love. Why do you do this to us?

6....and this line is the answer:

A noise like no other. A feeling unrivalled. The best place in the world. Shut the front door. Get out of my pub. Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria.

Glaring errors cost QPR third straight 2-1 loss - Report
at 15:39:57

5s and 6s for almost everyone says it all. If we had a squad of players who were 8+ every week...well that doesn't happen with lower budget clubs in our division. You hope for 7 as average week to week with a couple of 8s or 9s a game getting you over the line. In this scenario, the odd game of 5s & 6s across the board comes along. Better it happens in a game you might lose with better marks anyway than home against....oooh, say Brum or PNE?

Staying off the forum for a bit...only went on it to get to this report, and saw a thread entitled "where do we go from here"...oh my giddy aunt...
