Couldn't agree with this more. He's obviously into his psychology and wanted to breed that underdog spirit but on arrival he immediately went too far and it's got worse since. Sure, play that card when we're lining up against Leicester and Southampton but we are - in name at least - a Championship club - with a mix of experienced players and some decent younger players. Unfortunately, I think if you continue to tell players that they're out of their depth and that determination and graft is their only route to success. But half of this team were at the top of this league 12 months ago and with all due respect we could all probably have told him they aren't the dogs of war type. |

Not to disagree with any of the sentiment here but a reminder that the Loftus Road faithful decried 'Warbsball' because it involved too much 'sideways' passing and not enough either direct football or free-flowing attacking passing (because Luke Amos and Sam Field are not Xavi and Iniesta). And also because we were stuck around 10th in the league year after year. As an aside I am always surprised that we see ourselves as having a culture of attractive football. Maybe in the 70s but nowadays the crowd groans when we play out from the back. |

Also noticed this. It happened immediately after a ball across the six yard area that three of our players were unable to get to. The last of the three arriving just too late was Willock. Could be completely wrong but took it to be that the two veteran strikers were explaining to Willock that he could/should be getting more into the sorts of positions and gambling at the back post to score goals. |

Context is key here. If this is about strengthening the squad with a useful utility player to have around and put on the bench to cover a couple of positions this makes sense. My personal view is that actually there's not a huge amount of difference in quality between the average lower half Championship player (our standard) and decent players in L1 or even in Scottish league! A lot comes down to intelligence and attitude. There has to be an attitude and character dimension to this. Warburton knows the character of this guy and if he thinks he can get something out of him and use him in the right way we probably do have to go with it. The positive thing is that he won't be expensive. This round of recruitment cannot be compared to the Hughes or Redknapp days. The difference is they were spending £££ on wages and transfers and these are *relatively* low risk. Some transfers work and some don't. At least if this one works out poorly we won't be paying someone to sit on the bench at £2m a year in four years time. |

Nothing really to add to any of the pros and cons of the runners and riders but please can we address this fallacy that QPR fans want to see free flowing, passing football? I just don't buy it. Think about how anxious the crowd gets any time any of our players passes the ball backwards or sideways. I'm not advocating ponderous football but our supporters seem to be particularly impatient. I regularly hear "just get it forward" from the people around me. Bit depressing. I also think that the generally negative atmosphere around LR leads to reticence and a lack of risk taking by players who might otherwise take on more ambitious passes etc. Not quite on topic really but I suppose, to link back, we shouldn't discount managers who favour a direct approach as, while we may not want to admit it, a large chunk of the support base want to see us knock it long to Matt Smith or - again somewhat unrealistically - a better version of Matt Smith. |

Are you definitely not confusing Ehmer with Michael Doughty - son of ex Nottingham Forest owner, Nigel Doughty? |

I'd go with Fer behind Austin and probably one of Luongo or Faurlin with Henry until Sandro is "fit" to replace Henry. Fer is a quality footballer and had an impressive goal tally in the Premier League (when played in a suitable position). |

Good podcast overall but the stuff at the start of the Steve Gallen interview was cringeworthy. Anyone would think that Finney wants EVERYONE to know that he's had a few pints with Kevin Gallen. I won't believe it until he mentions it on another few podcasts. |

I like the idea of making the players pay for the chef and the food. Maybe we should ask them to pay cost for their kit too. And parking spaces. The Niko Kranjcar Full English was nowhere in sight. |

Next time I go into a pub where they're charging £5.70 a pint I will just stand at the bar complaining and telling the staff that I will not be held to ransom. Oi, Pulis, it's a market where the price is set by the equilibrium between supply and demand. Don't make an offer that we find suitable then look elsewhere. .. Unless of course he's actually just trying to unsettle Phillips et al so that by this time next month they begin agitating for a move, putting in poor performances and that leads to us lowering our asking price. After all, he's not stupid. |

Gives them a chance to work on their left-flank partnership. It'll pay dividends by September. 'Yun up the line to Henry. He jinks inside, beats the defender and feeds the overlapping Yun...' |
| Forum Thread | Raheem Sterling - The Alternate Reality at 09:17 15 Jul 2015
In the 'Sliding Doors' parallel universe where Sterling was convinced to stay at Loftus Road and made his debut as a 15 year old, what would have happened? Other than the main characters getting different haircuts to signify their involvement in an alternate reality, my prediction is he'd have been snaffled up by a medium-sized Premier League club by the time he was 17 and we'd probably have ended up with £4m or £5m. Would've been very useful at that sort of time but oddly the fact that he never played for us, went on the cheap with a sell-on clause and was developed at Liverpool's academy has probably ultimately meant that we've made a lot more money out of the deal. |

I've got very little confidence in Traore at LB. As a substitute left winger occasionally then fine. Hill cannot play at LB and even at CB we'll be really struggling if he has to play more than 10-15 matches. With Onuoha's tendency to pick up injuries you'd think that he could play many more than that unless we get more cover. TBH I'd forgotten about Robinson at LB but he'll not be back until well after Christmas by the sounds of it. Leaves us with Yun who should be a quality Championship LB but his form towards the end of last season was concerning. He may also be called away on international duty so flying around the world and then playing two league games in a week will take it's toll. Perhaps we need to use the loan market for an adaptable full back who can play a couple of defensive positions. |
