Swindon match report
at 17:19 2 Jan 2025

I'm assuming the referee felt the keeper was making a valid attempt to play the ball and thus was only booked under the double jeopardy rule. You could argue he got this wrong too.

Supreme U's to defeat Robins at the County Ground to start the New Year in style

Agreed. I think Donnelly will shift to left back with Kelleher or Goodliffe starting in the centre of defence alongside Flanagan. I think I'd prefer that to a change of shape personally and not sure we've got anyone else who can play there.

That's good then. He'd be a massive loss to the team especially if Woodyard and Read are both not fit enough to play.

To add a bit more disappointment to yesterday it was McDonnell's seventh yellow card, fifth in the league. Been booked the last three matches. Will he be suspended for Saturday or has the five booking cut off been and gone?

Imperious Super U's to achieve 11th unbeaten game on Sunday at the JCS

Don't think we've heard a peep from franksic1988 since the Bradford game. Just shows that he's obviously not a true fan and only interested in posting negative drivel when the team are struggling.

He stupidly moved the "paint" in front of the ball which was about a yard further forward of where the ref had originally painted the mark. Blatant cheating and rightfully given a second yellow card for unsporting behaviour. His actions were even more idiotic given he'd been booked eleven minutes earlier and he was literally yards from both the referee and linesman. And to gain what? A yard on a 30-40 yard free kick. Ridiculous. But not as ridiculous as McCann trying to justify the player's actions and blame the referee. If footballers acted with a bit more honesty and integrity a referee's job would certainly be made a lot easier.

Home Attendances
at 15:38 30 Dec 2024

Taken from Matt Hudson on Twitter.

"Col U crowds for the first half of our league matches (12/23) averaging 4,486 this season, up 893 or 25% on the first 12 in 23/24.

22 league games under DC - average 4,629."

And it's not like we've suddenly had an influx of local games either or a Wrexham type attendance to boost the numbers.

Great to see the attendance numbers moving in the right direction and I think there are a number of factors contributing to this.

Xmas Quiz 2024.

I managed to come up with a first name and surname from the letters but it wasn't a player I'd ever heard of. Good old Wikipedia told me I was right though and also led me to what he was first to do.

Tough game tonight between two teams with recent unbeaten records. We don't have a great record at Crewe so I'd happily take a point.

BSM vs Wimbledon

So pleased that we took advantage of the fact our game was postponed on Saturday by playing a very strong team. A good, professional performance resulted in a comfortable home win and another clean sheet. Great for Lyle to get minutes and goals and Bishop to get a start. Whisper it quietly but we're starting to look like a team...

Stats and Questions
at 15:48 5 Dec 2024

We were talking at half time on Tuesday and wondering when we were last four goals ahead at half time, anyone know?

Also with Tovide on a hat-trick, which he ultimately didn't get, who was the last player to score a hat-trick in the league for the U's? My guess was our old favourite Jevani Brown.

Tuesday was our third clean sheet in a row in the league. The last time we achieved that was under Ben Garner at the end of the 2022/23 season. Oddly it involved the same three results (0-1, 0-0 and 4-0) but in a different order (4-0, 0-1 and 0-0). I'm struggling to find a time when we managed four clean sheets in a row but surely it must've happened at some point. It's also six clean sheets for the season now, one better than last season already.

U's to spook The Robins?
at 15:35 5 Dec 2024

The best I've ever seen Tovide play. Payne, Edwards and McDonnell were the other stand out players for me. Also was probably Flanagan's best performance of the season as well. Great for Taylor and Bishop to get some minutes too and hopefully the whole team came through unscathed. I did think if you could pick how a team would setup against us at home you'd pick the back five that Swindon seemed to go with. It just seemed to invite Edwards and Gordon to play higher up the pitch and gave Payne plenty of space to play in. I see so much of Matt Jay in Payne that it's odd that he's figured in nearly every match this season and Jay has barely kicked a ball under four different managers.

Looks like all three could be missing plus Edwards possibly. Hopefully some of them are fit enough to figure otherwise we'll be a bit light on Tuesday.
