On the subject of Japan, their cricketers played India in the Asia Under-19 50 overs cup in Sharjah today and it went…about as well as could be expected - India 339/6, Japan 128/8. But let’s hear it for Japanese hero Hugo Kelly (!), 8-0-42-2 in the Indian innings, then a 50 (OK, off 111 balls) in Japan’s. And he’s 15! |

Still gives the ball away in bad areas from time to time but looks totally at home now with the brutality that referees allow here. And at least he wants to go forward. |

Quite. He’s not a fan and he’s not property. He knows he went backwards in his last two years with us so why not seek a fresh start (and more money) elsewhere. Any one of us who’s left a decent job with nice people for a better deal should think the same. It’s not personal.
I actually thought he looked lively and threatening when he came on. I know plenty would see him losing the ball before the second goal as karma, but they were chasing a late equaliser, you have to try something different. |

For a 21 year old, he looks impressively grizzled and weather-beaten, like he works on a trawler. And did anyone else think Ashby’s face was the colours of a rhubarb and custard sweet? It must be colder than I thought. |
