Inverted midfielders 13:29 - Nov 3 with 1594 views | dmm | I've noticed Beale sometimes inverts the wide midfield players as he did last night - right footed Iroegbunam on the left and left footed Dozzell on the right. I get inverted wingers/wide forwards but I'm not sure what the thinking is when using it with midfielders. Anyone?

And on reflection in makes sense to me. Easier to receive from defenders on the half turn. Larger view of the pitch to play into once it's been received. And stops us just playing boring passes up the wing into cul-de-sacs while also leaving space naturally for the fullbacks to move on and fill (and then receive later in the move when they're more likely against isolated opposition). I think I remember seeing a video of 'the pass pep hates' which was basically just playing up the line but can't find it now. Anyway this stops that.

Inverted midfielders on 10:00 - Nov 4 with 1055 views | LazyFan | I noticed that with Dozzell, he would come up behind the high-playing fullback Laird. If Laird needs an out and does not get the ball past his man, he passes back to Dozzell. This part is all a guess on my part but ... As Dozzell is left-footed once he has received the ball from Laird, he will then use his left foot to spread the play to the other side of the pitch or very rarely do a trick of the "reverse pass" forward to Laird to play him through (although this often does not happen, its seems to be the intention). Dozzell's problem for me is two-fold. He does not run around enough and sometimes the play leaves him behind. We can see the difference in being in the correct positions the majority of the time by Field, as he's always moving up and down the pitch. So, Dozzell sometimes can be on the wrong side of the pitch defensively. And the other challenge with Dozzell is in attack as he does not move up and down, he's often too far deep. If he was in the final third his great passing skill would be a far greater threat for runs in behind by Chair, Timmy, Willock, Dykes, JoJo or whomever. Overall he plays too deep as he does not get up the pitch quickly enough and is sometimes caught out on the wrong side of the pitch. Beale needs to get a hold of him and run him in reason and then run him some more and then run him, run him, run him and run him some more. BTW: When Shodpio came on he looked leggy and for a sub that's not good enough. Time for Shoddy to go as we now know he cannot play against the bigger teams and help us.
