"By far the most challenging season of my career!” 09:21 - Mar 16 with 12714 viewsTK1

Saw this on the way to the game, Cifuentes describing how difficult the season's been, "not just the results", but "things the fans don't see" - particularly the last few weeks.

Interesting that he thinks this has been "by far" harder than taking over one of the worst teams I can remember last season.

Seems significant. I wonder what's been happening - and I wonder where that leaves him for next season.

He must feel like he’s pissing against the wind at times. Injury situation at the club is chronic and when we think Saito will cover the loss of Chair . He sees him put that tackle in at the death .
Straight away he’s out for three in a row.
We’re depressed and so he is he . Understandably.
Chair , Varane , Celar , Jake , Field and kolli all out and with a budget in the bottom third of the leauge , It feels like we’re running to stand still .
I think he’s done a great job under the circumstances.

Based on a complete lack of evidence, I propose we start a series of unfounded rumours.

Alfie Lloyd isn't allowed to talk to Kieron Morgan after their mums fell out at the Bingo.

Nicholas Madsen's pet axolotl, Marvin, is fighting for his life against amphibian flu.

No-one has seen Sam Field's car keys, so stop asking.

Michael Frey won't stop whistling songs by J-Pop group Haku, accompanied by knuckle cracking and armpit fart noises.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Jimmy Dunne looks like a farter to me. That would demoralise anyone on a coach journey to Middlesborough.

He has done a great job, but to be honest we are just an average Championship club with little chance of really pushing for promotion anytime soon. Unless there is a serious injection of cash clubs like ours are just treading water. I sort of liken us to the Preston North End of the south, always in the 2nd tier, dependable but nothing special.

Filmed on a phone too. Am I being conspiratorial in thinking that means not club sanctioned?

Nah that'll be the pre-match they're contractually obligated to do with print and broadcast. It's a Zoom meeting.

His working relationship with Mr Christian Nourry.

My first and only thought.

My thought was maybe it's to do with contract negotiations for some of the players. Maybe there are some Marti wants to stay but club disagree or are unable/unwilling to meet the players demands.

Can't be great for team and player morale when so many are out of contact at the end of the season.

And yet a few months ago he and Calm looked delighted to have signed new ‘multi-year’ contracts. Everyone spins a story.

If you were the manager and had to deal with a catalogue of injuries to so many key players, I think you'd find it difficult. ATM, JCS, Field, Varane, Chair, celar, Kolli and Lloyd.
Add in that virtually every senior defender currently on the books is OOC in June. Who knows what's the story about those.

"Unless there is a serious injection of cash" - clubs like ours are no longer allowed to have serious injections of cash. FFP put paid to that (deliberately to keep clubs like ours where we currently are and not put those at the top in danger of losing their places)

I'm currently reading Warnock's book to remind myself just how big a shit show Rangers can be behind the scenes. Having said that, Bate's Leeds wasn't much better and Palace in administration wasn't a barrel of laughs either.

I've just got to the bit where he explains how hard it is to work with overseas chairmen who don't realis that running a football club day to day is unlike any other business It's basically an exercise in continuous crisis management.

He's Irish. When they say 'I'm a farter' it actually translates as 'l have children'.

The last one seems quite plausible.

Annoying comments! Why this need for professional football clubs/managers to allude murkily to clandestine doings? I think it's just a rhetorical tactic to make them look like they're doing better than they are. He's done it before, and it gets on my tits.

Just front up, deal with what's been happening/not happening on the pitch, and rein it in with the smoke and mirrors, Marti!

My thoughts as well. If you look at his career stats, he never seems to stay in any job for more than 18 months/two years

Never did get that fans forum with him, did we? They've kept him at arm's length for a reason. I suspect we will soon enough learn who's a more valuable asset, Nourry or Cifuentes.

Oh did you miss it mate? It’s here. You’re permitted to email them a question, they’ll pick ones they like, record the answers then edit the tape. Expect to be hearing from the “head of methodology”.

It’s been pretty obvious to me from the start of the season that they won’t let us within 1000 yards of Cifuentes because they’re afraid he’ll go off message.

Obviously I know it’s preaching to the choir to you as our learned Dear Leader, and it makes me sound like a know it all cnt by repeating it, but I’ve spent the past 12+ months trying to tell people how seriously unhappy Cifuentes is with things behind the scenes…

By this point, Cifuentes could celebrate every goal by turning and making a w@nker sign at Nourry in the directors box and certain people would tell you he was shouting ‘boo-urns’

It’s all starting to feel a little bit like the end of Warbs to me. Let’s hope another two and half year cliff face doesn’t await.

Or maybe he just likes a whinge? Who knows?

Either way, not sure I like it when a manager says stuff like this. It could be construed as washing the club's dirty linen in public.

The point here is that we don't know what he is saying, why he is saying it, and if we did we would know if he was correct.

We only know what certain people tell us.

Yeah, had missed that. Pathetic, insulting. The only person you need to hear from is Cifuentes, plus Belk and Nourry at a push - but all together, in a room, with an audience. Let's hear the choir all singing together.

Embarrassing, really. Being that controlling is just so weak and unconfident, isn't it? Some time in the future, when he's left. we'll hear the true story from Marti. Make or break six months for Nourry, I reckon.

The fact that in your match report after WBA, I think, you stated the team AND manager phoned it in says it all.

It seems to have gone pear shaped since the close of the January transfer window. We've been flat for weeks, and the real concern is we have become dull and predictable to watch and play against. Yes, injuries, but something is off.

Who knows what has happened behind the scenes, but in a Nourry v Marti fight there is only ever going to be one winner. It all feels inevitable.
