Dud strikers that we thought were going to convert into 20 goal, 1 in 2 hit-men on 11:18 - Mar 11 by Juzzie
IIRC, Cureton kept being played out wide. IMO he was a fox-in-the-box striker. I was quite excited when we bought him as he had a good record with Bristol Rovers and Reading but only scored 6 goals in 43 games for us.
Does anyone else think the same... that he was played too far wide?
From what I remember, yes I think you're right. But there was an outstanding goal he scored from out wide. Can't remember who against though.

He addresses this on Undr The Cosh.
Says this was the case, but also owns up to a bit of personal lack of form.

Ditto Bobby Zamora.
Let's put 'that' goal aside..... by and large his record was pretty poor. 12 goals in 83 games.... 1 goal in 7.
IIRC, pretty much all of the four goals (21 games) he got in the 2012/13 PL season were in losing matches so they contributed nothing in terms of points (though, TBF, crap defending is not his problem I guess).
Not good on the whole and certainly not for the huge amount of money he was paid but 'that' goal gives him immunity I guess!
Outpacing Joleon Lescott and hitting a curler with the outside of his left boot vs WBA is still one of the best goals I've seen this century from an R's player. Honourable mention to Josh Scowen in his last ever game for us.
The grass is always greener.

Until Jamie, I was never happy, I needed so much more. Rain clouds, oh, they used to chase me. Down they would pour. Join my tears. Allay my fears
Sent to me from heaven, Jamie Cureton, you're my world

Which are the areas where most goals are ordinarily scored. 17 goals in 61 games, of which 33 were as a substitute, would indicate that he wasn't dud at all.
That's a much better goals to games ratio than Lyndon Dykes.

I also thought that Sylla was not as bad as some fans thought. He was probably the best we have bought since Austin in 2013.
I expected a lot more from the likes of Washington, Dykes, Bonne and now Celar.
As for strikers in years gone by, I also hoped Peter Eastoe and Micky Walsh would have scored more than they did.
Then there was the likes of Hateley, Sheron and Cureton.

You'd have to be a bit dim to expect any QPR player to score 20 goals in a season.
It's happened once in the last 25 years (Andy Thomson (01/02).
I bet you could say the same for most teams st this level. IMHO, 20 goal a season striker is an ambition, 15 pretty good, double figures reasonable return.

Indeed. And while I'm looking at the stats, we've only managed 15 in one season since relegation (Hugill and Wells each got 15 in 19/20 which sounds like goals galore now). The other eight years are grim reading - 10, 10, 11, 9, 12, 10, 8, 7 - although Chery and Austin got 10 each one season which isn't a bad return.
Dykes was top scorer for three seasons with a grand total of 27.
There was a striker, about 15 years ago, not sure if he played for Derby, 26 or something, CF......scored very very few goals for us - Norf's fault, gave him a good write up!!!!

Yeah. That’s why I always think it’s odd when people complain about us not having a 20 goal a season striker every season as if that’s something we’ve learned to expect.
I mean I get we should look for some sort of ability in recruiting players but sometimes the level of some sort of realism is lacking.
