Either way, it demonstrates a propensity by some on this board to react too quickly. To be clear, not a criticism of you, just highlighting how easy it is to slip.
For me the Curbishley analogy reinforces the OP's point and demonstrates how perception alters reactions. Clive and the OP are broadly making the same point (that the manager isn't the problem) yet one gets umpteen up arrows, the other umpteen down arrows. It's as if some folk are paying more attention to who's talking rather than what's being said. |  | | |

Au contraire. If you read the OP's entire paragraph (as opposed to focusing on just the first sentence) then the obvious conclusion is that the players are limited and there's only so much that MC (or indeed any manager) can get out of them.

There's a fair bit of guesswork in this thread.
1. Marti rested Varane and Frey, rather than them being injured
2. There's a major rebuild coming this Summer. Assumption that all OOC players are not going to be here.
Of course it was disappointing to lose. Hardly unprecedented. The issue for me was how little we created, especially against 10 men for 45. |
Why is it that for like the last five years, every summer is a 'big summer'?
Are we just not very good at contract management and every year we have a shed load of players coming out of contract? (slightly rhetorical question)
I've no doubt in the ten games remaining Marti will do his best to keep the players honest, but with the loanees and the out of contract players I think the beach towels and whiff of factor 30 will be coming into play. |  |

I think it's just the way football and contracts are going. Lots of clubs seem to have a big turnover of players in the summer |  |

I just stated my opinion. I said it was a guess. What's wrong with that.
Wasn't responding to anyone specific. Stated a few were having a pop at my opinion, a bit harshly from my perspective.

I admire the manager's footballing principles but I'm not sure they tally with what is required to be a successful Championship side.
I appreciate he has done an amazing job given the squad at his disposal, especially the lack of strikers, but every time he feels he can move away from the pragmatic approach which gets us results (and in his mind probably not the shexy football he wants to play), our results tend to fall off a cliff. And it doesn't seem that the penny has dropped with him.
Of course he might get fed up with that too and if a better offer comes along to go to a club with better players more attuned to his style, he'll probably be off. | |
