Disappointed on 20:24 - Mar 8 by Rsole | Too soon for another thread covering midweek, let alone next season. Seriously, where do you go in terms of selection in the next game after this one ? Add Dembele and go for the shortest average height awards ? There’s clearly an agenda coming out in public now and it’s not a good look for anyone. I guess the ‘chicken children’ are ‘manifesting’ it somewhere else but it felt like a dogleg in the wrong direction today for this boomer. |
This isn’t a dig I’m a good few beers in But I dont understand this at all? I’ve read it five times That aside, I’ve seen far far FAR worse performances from this squad and seen more positives than people are rolling out today. Nardi still looks a good keeper - very close to saving the pen Edwards is class - oh my days what a signing he’d be Morrison looked good on his return Dunne is Dunne - Christ if he goes the void will be huge Saito is such a busy little bstard, loves it and will get better Morgan still shows flashes: race is run this season but he’ll be brilliant next Yan has got it, if he’s here next year for 46 games I’d be happy Smyth in front of Jimmy I love and they are so busy and solid Lots to be positive about once we get two wins Another big summer coming up and we have to pray for more Morgan’s and Nardis than Madsens and Celars A good few to move on and it’s a concern we may need to intergrate a whole new back four but so be it. If we’re not praying for results in April it’s a step forward for me

The idea Cifuentes would go there with that attack through choice is hilarious.

Yes, it's astonishing how many responders have misunderstood the OP. The OP is criticising the quality of the playing squad and praising the manager. Frankly, I'm inclined to agree. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. If the board want to hang on to Marti, recruitment will need to be decidedly better in the summer. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Another poster who doesn't seem to understand the word 'nuance' and thinks posters divide into black and white boxes in ways that make the world, I guess, lovely and simple. Hilarious how such individuals never consider for a moment that the projection of 'agendas' onto those he disagrees with is itself an agenda, let alone understand the irony of their own position. Here's a radical idea - some of us can and do criticicise the team AND the manager when it's warranted, and move our critiques across that (very unscientific/contestable) boundary. Let us know if that's still a difficult approach for you to follow!

I find the agenda you’re pushing in this thread very odd: you think (make up) that Cifuentes decided to rest two important first team players for the easy away at West Brom game so they are fit for the much more important away at Middlesbrough game OR it’s totally unacceptable that players can get injured in training as if that’s something that never ever happens at any other club in the world. 🤔😂 [Post edited 9 Mar 8:05]

If there was ever a game that confirmed what we’ve known for a couple of seasons now, this was it. We somehow need to find a bargain striker in a world where all other teams are looking to do exactly the same. I completely get all the criticism of the board for not fixing this but the truth is they did try with Celar. Maybe he’ll come good, maybe he won’t (my personal view) but they did make a go of it. It just hasn’t worked. I hope that Celar has it in him to turn it around but I think an efficient striker will remain top of our shopping list come the summer. Summer will see the next stage of evolving our team - but it’s no quick fix. My only criticism will come from not trying (board, management and players) - I believe they are trying right now - may not be good enough for some and I don’t think it’s good enough for Marti either. We keep building.
Disappointed on 08:12 - Mar 9 with 555 views | eastside_r | Not too disappointed in the cold (warm) light of day. Expected us to lose this and am expecting a zero point week. However our inability to score against 10 men again is perhaps indicative of where this squad is light, even taking into account the current injuries. Still we should have got something from this one. Don’t get me started on the shithousey, especially of their keeper.

Disappointed on 22:22 - Mar 8 by stainrods_elbow | It was OK tippy tappy at times, but no cutting edge - that much is uncontroversial, presumably. Can we sharpen our edge sufficiently when Frey, Kollo and goal machine Celar are all back? Methinks the serrations may still be rather too few. If MC felt able to do something dangerous and attend a Fans Forum, a number of us might be interested to learn what his/the club's ambitions are for next season. |
With a big player release/recruitment coming in a few months I'd think mid table would/should be the goal. We can't expect anymore than that. 18 months we'll be ready for a playoff push.

With the team we put out, going a goal down against a Tony Mowbray team who then went down to ten men probably killed any hope we had of scoring. I was quite surprised by WBA's lack of endeavour before their fortunate goal though, considering their high position and what they faced. Colbacks tired lofted balls into the box at the end had me tearing my hair out, though. We were a team full of number 10's who had no imagination.

It's a big summer. We probably lose our experienced players at the end of the season, another transfer window full of signing players with no championship experience will put us in a very risky situation. But signing older players goes against our stated policy. I wish them well squaring that circle.
Disappointed on 08:44 - Mar 9 with 404 views | thehat | I wasn't there and did not watch the game so hard for me to comment on yesterday but as soon as I saw the team I knew we were in trouble. Far to many small players in the starting eleven. This is the Championship and you need a big physical presence especially away from home. Look at Sheff Utd last week no midgets in their team. You can get away with one maybe two small players but five is asking for trouble. So I guess a 1 v 0 loss to a penalty isn't the end of the world although I fear it would of been by a bigger margin had Furlong not been sent off. Anyway still twelve points clear of relegation and I would of bitten your hand of for that at the end of November. Onto the next one.......

But maybe that’s the point . If they both have slight niggles then let’s make sure we have them for 2 matches this week and not lose them for 6. As been said already , the idea that MC would just leave them at home to rest and there is nothing wrong with them is just a bit nuts and a bit disrespectful to MC as a coach . He deserves and has earned more credit than that . Doesn’t mean he can’t be criticised after yesterday or on a few decisions in the last few weeks but overall Marti has more than shown what a great coach he is and will be . In no way is he perfect either but give him some credit . In situations like yesterday I think the coach can only do so much . The players have to step up and find a way themselves . There is this premise that the players are lead by the nose through the 90 mins by the coach . That’s simply not the case . In the main, a coach won’t prepare for playing against 10 men because it doesn’t often happen . It’s like preparing a team to play in hurricane conditions ….you can’t bank on it so it’s a waste of time . Once they go on the pitch then there is only so much the coach can do snd players like Ilias, just as an example have to use their experience and nous to open teams up . However , we have to be better as a team and as a coaching staff on working on breaking teams down who are playing in a ‘low block’ ( as an old fart , saying that makes me be sick in my mouth a little).

Jeez your first post where you were guessing and then you double down on more guessing. The players were not available and had minor injuries why can you not accept that, it happens in training all the time, they work really hard and believe it or not it's a contact sport even in training. I'm guessing that Marti would have dearly loved both players to start yesterday and was very disappointed that he couldn't select a physically stronger team, we all know that's what's needed in the Championship. In Martis pre match interview I think it was he said Sam Fields out for a number of weeks which could mean we don't see him play again this year. He said he picked up an ankle injury in the Portsmouth game, spoke to Marti and asked if he could continue which he allowed him to do but then subbed him in the 68th minute, obviously because of the injury, just maybe if he had come off earlier he might not have such a bad injury. So I'm guessing what Marti doesn't want to happen is that a player with a minor injury starts a game and then that puts him out for the rest of the Season, we've just lost Field we can't afford for his replacement Varane to be out for a considerable amount of time just because we pushed him into playing and the same goes for Frey. We are all disappointed but considering where we were at the end of November it seems like we have generally made improvements, the important factor is we need to try and encourage Marti to stay with the club, he's been a breath of fresh air after a succession of Management disappointments.
