Fuller’s demise? 11:36 - Mar 6 with 619 viewscolinallcars

Following on from DM's thread about London Pride’s deterioration, I had occasion to visit the Distillers in Hammersmith.
I was given a (short) pint of Pride which was thin and ice cold.
I thought I'd get HSB or ESB next but then saw that of the six handpumps, Pride was the only Fuller's ale.
I remember when they sold the brewing arm to Asahi, they said they'd guarantee to stock Fuller's for five years.
Is the five years up ?
What's it like in the C&S?

Pride is great and can only be defeated by Hogsback TEA on the Ale front. I'm surprised it's struggling. Probably down to the lack of pub drinkers these days because drinking out has become so expensive.

By that description it sounds like you were given a pint of Asahi...

Must admit I've not had a pint of Pride for ages.

I'm ashamed to admit I've just moved south of the river, but do have two Youngs pubs very close. I usually find their Special is pretty solid. Sort of halfway between Pride and ESB in strength and quality.

I play football with the landlord of the Distillers, I'll pass on your feedback! I think with certain Fullers pubs, there's a big push to sell less of the traditional beers and more of the craft ales. Last time I was in they had far too many types of odd cloudy ciders, Belgian sours, and even mead! Not my cup of tea, although I don't mind the new hoppy IPAs that have sprung up everywhere.

The C&S is more traditional and usually has Fullers and ESB I think and doesn't lean into the craft as heavily. They have just got a new tap with three different types of fruity cider however, so god knows.

Mead??

There's a Craft Beer Co. near where I work and they tend to have a decent selection of weird and wonderful ales.

I struggle to think of an ale that tastes the same now as when I was in my yoof. Takeovers, mergers, moving of breweries and closures. Only the name remains the same.

My local was a Fullers pub surrounded by other Fullers pubs but I preferred Youngs with the Coach and Horses in Isleworth being the nearest. The Special was special and Winter Warmer delicious.

Today's Special is ok as is the HSB but not the same.

I'm a friend of Fuller's and used to get a few free pints on my birthday. Also, on the brewery’s birthday you could get some pints a penny for each year.
For example, £1.70 a pint on their 170th birthday and so on and so forth.
Tight gits don't do it any more.

I kid you not! There's a brewery(?) called Gosnell's who are bringing it back. Tried it - wasn't my cup of tea.
