Time to play our own 23:00 - Mar 1 with 6157 views | Ned_Kennedys | After the last couple of results we are clearly destined for the lowest of mid tables so what is the point of playing Edwards and Min-hyeok as they will never sign for us. Drop them and get Morrison and Smyth back in the starting line up as they are ours. I’m assuming Saito will be signed so he should be starting.

No, it was in that run of games just up to Christmas after the Leeds away game where we won 4 out of 6 and drew the other two. Cook got injured against Preston last game before Christmas.

Professional footballers want to win matches, keep clean sheets and play for the first team.....it earns them money!!! And so does MC and his staff. |
What about the long term implications gazza? If playing the ‘best’ team today is to the detriment of the ‘best’ team for the next few seasons is it worth it? We are in our 10th season of Championship football arguably because we didn’t think past May 2015. [Post edited 3 Mar 11:25]

But what if NOT playing your best team now is of detriment to us now ? A load of what ifs on both side of the argument . But Asking a manager or coach to not play his best team other than a couple of dead rubbers at the end of the season ( contradicting myself slightly regarding the FA cup ) is bonkers .
Time to play our own on 11:30 - Mar 3 with 1049 views | TheChef | I'm still not convinced Marti knows what his best team is. On top of that is he hamstrung by the loans players, which he has start as per the loan agreements (assuming that's what they say)?

‘But what if NOT playing your best team now is of detriment to us now ?’ I don’t think it is. I think not playing Heung or Edwards is the difference between 11th and 12th. If anything you could argue our form has dropped since we signed them. I don’t blame MC, he’s there to win matches. It’s whoever is bringing them in.

but the problem is we have so many players out of contract this summer how can you pick a team now with next season in mind, don't even know who the manager will be The time to build for next season is in pre season not now If you send the message to the players that we are done for the season by never picking loan players we might well find the season was a long way from done if they drop standards for the next few weeks Got to laugh at all this really, I'm old enough to remeber when we had to rest players for the FA Cup to make sure we are fresh for an all important league campaign which apparently now is just dead rubbers [Post edited 3 Mar 11:39]

This "loans are contracted to play % of games / minutes" should be added to the "pay as you play" "can Remy play in playoffs" LFW encyclopedia I haven't seen this confirmed anywhere yet I see it posted here constantly as fact Ashby hasn't started a league game since 6th January and barely played any minutes since Edwards was signed as cover (great timing with JCS and Morrison injuries and definitely has minutes ramped because of that) Yang is used as one-two combo with Smyth and has only started twice in 6 games. Cover was also needed in right side of attack There's some teams in the league that have to leave loans out as they are past the quota of allowed loan players in a matchday squad (5). I'm not finding any issue with our business this season in this regard [Post edited 3 Mar 11:41]

Agree. I would be astonished if the club signed loan deals that were prescriptive to the point of throttling selection choices. It would be absolute madness to put yourself in the position of having to select an out of form or unmotivated player. And if we were agreeing to such deals, then we would require the same with our outward loans, which clearly we don't (cf Taylor Richards).

Yes, play your best team. Why would it be to the detriment of the team?? Next season is next season and months away. Loosing matches is not good for anyone for many reasons. I would add, and it may appear contradictory, the only reason a weakened team would be selected is for FA Cup/Cup matches because the priority is the Championship and that would have been agreed pre-season time.. Because if Edwards is keeping Morrison out (hypothetically) we’ll have to start him with 3 games under his belt rather than 30 next season. 30 game Morrison > 3 game Morrison [Post edited 3 Mar 12:51]

1 - We do not know what is going to happen with Edwards next season or the team generally. We also do not know what the loan contract has in it. Edward is better than Morrison so he should be selected. As I said loosing games do no favours to anyone so pick your best team. 2 - Morrison may not be the first choice next season despite playing reasonably decent, but lets not go overboard about him. He made a few cock-ups but luckily the Team did not get punished.

Morrison is coming back from 2 nasty injuries (and a surgery) this season. He's only 21 and they are easing him back in Even with this he's played 11 games and with the 11 games left I'd imagine the minutes will start to ramp up The 3 game to 30 game comparison is quite an exaggeration here I think

Ah yes I forgot he had surgery, so I suppose better to ease him back in gently. I do miss him though!

That’s why I said hypothetically. Could also apply it to Fox or whoever. [Post edited 3 Mar 14:22]

Time to play our own on 14:52 - Mar 3 by QPRSam | I understand your hypothetical but just wanted to add context for Morrison's situation with injuries I feel that Marti's outlook is to field the best team possible and will not be dictated by any off the field situation (contracts, loan). Hence last year Willock was still playing, Hayden is getting minutes over Dixon-Bonner etc. Ultimately his position is very competitive with Edwards, Cook, Fox and JCS when fit. With this and the fact they are being careful with his minutes it is difficult right now. I'm sure when the time comes he will have a starting berth. JCS - Morrison from next season |
This was something Wabrs was strong on as well not giving first team appearances away but you have to be good enough and earn that spot The time to give a few youngsters a go is last 4/5 games when we should be safe and comfortable in mid table. Morrison for me sounds like an injury issue, he rarley finished 90 minutes when he did start games

Good last point that Dave (and another reason why he's at QPR and not elsewhere, etc.)

Took the words out of my mouth. We sack off cups to compete in a league which now includes dead rubbers where you don't have to play your best team either. We have the oddest fan base sometimes. How about we just try and win football matches. It's why we exist! I'm fed up of losing continually.
