Not the issue I know, but what the fck are Millwall doing picking their second choice keeper for their biggest game of the season anyway? Their first choice is brilliant. Fcking mad. If that tossr really needs some games pick him in one of the 12 dead rubbers you’ve got left while sitting 12th in the league. I’d be fuming if we’d done that.

Apparently Barton has tweeted that it was a good tackle and not even a foul.

Well he would do. He has his audience to think of.

I think that one is worse. I mean Schumacher meant his one and it was a disgrace but this one honestly could have killed the guy. The most reckless challenge I think I have ever seen on a football pitch. And I've seen a lot.

Nah sorry Schumacher's was worse. His only intent was to take out the player.

Millwall keeper successfully cleared the ball but caught Mateta with his follow through. It's a tough one and I suppose he had to be sent off, but I don't think it was a malicious challenge.

Remember it well - what a cracking game it was. Felt so gutted for the French. That was a sparkling side that went onto win Euro 84.

Tournaments in Qatar and forthcoming ones in USA and Saudi a depressing reminder that international tournaments were so much better in those days.

The most gutted I've ever been after a match not involving QPR or England. That was a brilliant French team containing stars such as Platini, Tigana, Giresse, Tresor and Rocheteau. The injustice of the incident with a goal kick being awarded spurred them on to take a 3-1 lead in extra-time but the Germans fought back to 3-3 by the final whistle and of course won on penalties.

As a post-script the whole world except the Germans were elated that Italy won the Final 3-1 and the core of that French team went on to win the 1984 Euros.

Great post . Everybody raved about the Dutch teams of 74 and 78 but its French side were off the scale . Mikes more entertaining than than Tikki Takki of the Spanish teams of the 2000s .
Tigana and Giresse along with platini. Sumptuous.

So pleased you mentioned that France team circa 1982 to 84, they were such a brilliant team to watch, with Giresse, Platini, etc. West Germany were so industrial during this period but ground out results, the Schumacker assault one of the biggest fouls in World football. If France had got to the 1982 World Cup final no doubt in my mind they would have beaten the Italiens.

Great memories of that tournament. And amazingly, England put 3 past France in Bilbao in the opening match. Bryan Robson scored in literally first few seconds. I was on a school exchange trip visit during the first half of the tournament in Germany, sharing a room with my German pen pal with all his pics of Bayern Munich, Karl Heinz Ruminegge and Paul Breitner on his bedroom walls. He wasn't a happy bunny when Algeria beat Germany and their game against Austria was so obviously a fix. His dad was Czech and wasn't too happy when England beat them. The Brazil v Italy quarter final in Barcelona was also an incredible match.
