Places for a new ground 09:52 - Feb 26 with 1651 viewsdannyblue

I was just musing that there would be sufficient space for a new ground at the Willesden Sports Centre.

In the middle of Willesden Green, Willesden Junction, Kensal Rise, and Kensal Green for dissipating crowds and transport links.

Close to our origin story.

I haven't heard this mentioned before so thought I'd add it here.

Not big enough, unless you mean the park which they'll never build on.

Used to play football here as a nipper. They had a scheme where ex prisoners held coaching sessions.

Will never forget this gold toothed geezer who used to scare the shit out of me.

Are you just talking about the athletics stadium or the whole site? Are Brent council looking to offload it then?

Yay! A new 'new stadium' thread! Haven't had one of those for a few weeks.

Just measured it out. You're right. Not any bigger than Loftus Road.

Beating a hasty retreat. My eyeball assessment is evidently rubbish.

I think give up on the new ground pipe dream.

Would rather they worked out something at Loftus Road.

Still convinced the way forward is a smaller ground with larger corporate areas.

Never going to happen at WSC.

It's a residential area that has been gentrified beyond recognition.

And there's not many pubs around there.

No new ground is going to get planning permission in a largely residential area or on existing green space. That's why all new stadiums are on existing sites, ex-industrial sites or out of town.

Yes I think the idea of redesigning LR to possibly accommodate say 20,000 is perhaps the best we will do for the next few decades without leaving the area.

I worked in New Zealand and there is plenty of room there but the rail links from west London are shite.

Never knowingly right.

The commute time of several days probably won't help much either, Bosh.

I'd discounted Canada for the same reason. Even northern Sweden is probably a bit too far for most people to manage for a 7.45pm mid-week kick-off.

It won't be 20k, more like 15/16k. The footprint is just not big enough to meet all the modern day requirements of a new stadium, or revamp of the existing stadium, to be able to hit 20k.

All: please use the search facility, this topic has been done to death and every avenue explored, questioned, answered etc. including digging down, buying the school, buying all the Ellerslie Road houses (yeah, dead easy that), building over South Africa Road and so on.

My Grandad used to take me to see Willesden FC at the stadium (mid 50s). Seem to recall there was talk years ago (60s?) about moving there but, if memory serves, it was dropped as there were no proper transport links. Probably many other reasons too. In any case King Eddies has been completely remodelled since then.

Councils will almost certainly refuse planning permission for things like what your proposing.

Its difficult to see us moving at least in the short term tbh. The only way we do find somewhere to build a new stadium is if we move outside the borough and thats something the fanbase will find difficult to accept.

King Edward's was my local park back in the day. My school used the old stadium for it's sports day in which I took part in the 440 yards race. Non of your 400 metres nonsense.

I think thats probably where were heading now,

I know the club and the council are actively working to see what we can do with the current site, and they did mention the discussions have been positive.

I think its possible that the club are probably looking to knock the current ground down and rebuild on perhaps a more larger footprint.

Also its interesting to note that QPR is mentioned as being part of the White City Regeneration Plan, so its definitely possible the council are open minded about a redevelopment.

What larger footprint???

With respect, you have had this conversation so many times on other threads, why keep bringing it up again and again?

(and yes, I'm grumpy today 'cos some dimwit Gen Z at work expected me, in front of an audience, to do their job for them so I had to 'remind' them that it is their role to do what was being asked)

There is a fairly realistic site and that's the Old Oak Common redevelopment area. The new station, part of HS2, will offer (allegedly) fantastic transport links. It's a brownfield site and I think if our owners were serious about a new stadium, this would be the place to look.

I bring it up because I believe it's important and worth considering. I understand that you may not see it in the same way, and that's completely fine.

I'll leave it at that.
