This may be a figment of my imagination, but I think these 3 playing together in midfield were instrumental in our turnaround. They complimented each other and found their natural positions, as well as providing much needed enegry, and in the case of Morgan some very direct forward passing.
We seem to be moving away from them now as a 3m with Chair playing more centrally, and I certainly accept Chair is better centrally, but I wonder if we are losing something moving away from this.
it's as issue with Chair playing better centrally now and Saito doing well on the left, I just wonder if for some games those 3 should start and then move people around subs as the game goes on.
Whilst I have a lot of time for Marti, I do find it a little frustrating that we abandoned what worked well at the back end of last season for a more expansive approach that ultimately resulted in a nightmare start to this. We then reverted to a more pragmatic approach that brought a remarkable up-turn in form only to tinker again once comfortably mid-table. Though we've only an outside shot of making the play-offs this season, it would be nice to give it a crack by sticking with a winning formula, even if that's at the expense of Cruffyian principles.

TBF to him at home this has brought some impressive performances - Norwich, Luton, Watford, Blackburn, Derby. But it's not working away and I broadly agree with you. We've seen what works and what doesn't. I know in an ideal world we'd have all the midget gems out there, but I'm afraid that's just the squad we've recruited.
It is, sadly, another problem caused by Madsen being such a donkey. A massive, 6ft 4ins, box-to-box central midfielder, picking the ball up and progressing it, physically dominant, good on both sides of the ball, transforms our team, which is why we paid so much money to get him here and why it's such a problem that he's crap.

I would go as far to say that the Madsen failure has cost us a play off spot. I thought we were getting a Sander Berge type, dominant ball player who would be a real focal point and threat. Maybe not.
Unfortunately he may well go down as our worst signing ever due to us having no money, and then splashing it on him. Big question as to who authorised that purchase.

That's where I am. It obviously wasn't working on Saturday to the extent that I'd like to have seen half time changes. Against other teams/at home it probably will work fine.
I have sort of given up on Rangers away from home, it's a bonus if we get a win and to be honest quite happy with draws, but always feel if we go behind away from home it is just a slog to try and get back in a game. For me it's all about attacking and winning at home, where we have had most success in recent months is front foot playing to win, rather than trying not to lose, which has led to most of our defeats. Happy to see Chair more central and attacking in a 10 role, shame Morgan has been sacrificed last few games, he has the legs and can play a pass forward. Field can be a frustrating player but is a key component in helping to break up play. Varane can be caught dwelling on the ball too much and turns himself into trouble.

Yeah but no but when we signed Madsen, there was a very informative analysis on this site about Madsen's strengths and weaknesses that said a lot of things including this:
Champ average: Shots on target Progressive carries
Above champ average for: Both medium distance and progressive passes Creativity and finishing (but skewed by penalties?)
Low on: Pressing Tackles and interceptions And Aerial duels!
So if they thought they were spending a lot of money on a dominant Championship level box to box player they didn't only not watch him, but they did less research on him than whoever did the piece on here.

You can drop Saito. He played yesterday, we lost, to a mediocre side. If it's for the good of the team, nobody is un-dropable. He's the form player right now so I'd pick him, but I'd pick the system that works for us over any individual.
Well we've won 2 and lost 2 with a system that has Chair more central, and whilst I think it's clutching to suggest that change is a key reason for those losses, Blackburn should have been by far more and Derby was emphatic and kickstarted by Chair - who also has 3 assists and 2 goals in that run.
Did we not get soundly beaten (esp in midfield) by Sheff Wens just before this with the Varane, Field, Morgan three? We lost Saturday because we couldn't deal with their press and Frey was a useless direct option. Cov was a late set piece. Both of them bang in form teams playing at home.
I don't think there's a perfect system or personnel group for every game atm, but I think there has to be more to life than stodging up the team for a midtable finish, and I'd much rather work on a system that gets more out of Chair and Saito than a trio that has 5 league goals between them all season.

100% agree with the Madsen point btw, we are crying out for the player we assumed he would be, and are having to try and moneyball it as an alternative. We have to hope he takes a massive leap forward in his second season - a big call to make in the summer about him and that position.

They have to sell him in the summer, hope to make the money back on him if they can

I'm not so sure about home performances being that impressive. Our home form was shocking to begin with, the first win didn't arrive until 7th December. For me, the recruitment of too many number 10s left the squad unbalanced. The desire to accommodate them all has seen Marti experiment recently with Ilias in a central position, with Morgan seemingly sacrificed. Kieren can feel somewhat aggrieved as his form was excellent and he was a key factor in the team's resurgence. IMHO he didn't deserve to be dropped.
However, I agree that the poor form of Madsen is another key problem. We're desperately short of tough but creative central midfielders who can dictate proceedings and play incisive passes in behind. We've had to compensate for this shortfall by packing 3 in the middle. It was less pleasing to the eye but enjoyable nonetheless as we started competing and winning games. When we revert to a midfield 2 we struggle to exert control, and make players like Barry Bannon look like Zinedine Zidane.

I'm not sure MC should go back to Morgan at 10. At some point the team has to develop into the style the manager wants, but more importantly, Nourry wants.
Nourry wants the team to play a certain way, and I'm pretty sure it won't include Field or Varane at 8 or Morgan at 10.
Personally, I think the 3 x little people should continue away from home. It's that 6/8 axis that is causing the problems, and hopefully that can be addressed in the summer.

Morgan has been deployed more in the 6/8 role than the 10. I may be mistaken but I can only recall Kieran in the 10 role once. In any event, QPR have enough number 10s on their books, there's no need to shoehorn Morgan there.
I agree that at some point the team has to play in the club's vision but only when the manager has the right tools for the job. As things stand, the current squad has proven time-and-time again to be far more proficient at pragmatic than expansive football. It'll take more windows and good recruitment (particularly in midfield) to get to the latter.
