I'm certainly no Paal hater, and I appreciate it's not his first language, but honestly - he doesn't seem the brightest tool in the box, does he? His interview's only 3 minutes long, but I didn't even make it to the end. Come on, Ken, throw us a bone, man! I'm not asking for Brian Glanville levels of sporting analysis, but is 'taking it game by game' really the best you can do? Today was one game, and your team mates didn't show up, so that cliche isn't even very relevant, is it, if you think about it?
This tendency of our players, and sometimes our manager, seeming to have no idea about why we perform so badly when we do worries me. Wouldn't you think, for your own professional self-respect if nothing else, you'd try to think of something to say before going in front of a camera? It was the same with Field after Swansea, if memory serves. Absolutely shocking first half in particular, but, again, he didn't have a clue as to why.
I must be missing something! These are professionally coached players. Is it they just don't think about their team and what they're doing, or they don't really care?

He drifts inside far too often, leaves 2 on 1 down the right hand side , don’t know whether he’s been instructed to but it’s bloody obvious from where I stand in the lower loft.
that comes from the manager, he asks him to come inside play as an inverted full back

I still can't understand why anyone pays any attention to player/manager pre & post match interviews. The chances of hearing anything other than as positive a spin as they can put on it is remote.
It's like expecting any politician to answer questions, let alone talk truthfully!

“We also know the club was desperately trying to flog him this summer”
Never seen any actual evidence of this, just rumours. Can anyone provide proof? I doubt it.
I don't know how reliable the source was (can't even remember what the source was tbh), but was it not a thing last summer that Paal was going to Watford and we were bringing in an Italian guy to replace him. Then the Italian guy went to Watford instead and we tried to bring Beck in from Liverpool - but he went to Blackburn instead, so we were 'stuck' with Paal. As I say, dunno how much truth in all of that, but if the club tired to move him on before the season started, then I must say I think his conduct has been exemplary all season. He may have made mistakes (and they certainly get highlighted when he does), but he has always been 100% professional in the manner he conducts himself. Personally, I would have no issues if he signed a new contract.

It wouldn't be much of a message board if you were only allowed to post stuff you'd got on the record, with date time and place of who said it. It's football transfers lads, not nuclear codes. And as I've said before, sources don't tend to stick around too long if you out them publicly.
In Paal's case, though, Cifuentes himself said in a pre-season friendly interview "we can't have players like that hanging around in the last year of their contract" when asked about him leaving, so that's not a bad source for a kick off.

I think what Marti's doing there is giving an opinion about having players at the club in the last year of their contracts, but that's all it is, as this isn't something he gets to decide, and in fact he says in the next breath that Nourry and the club need to be consulted about anything on the personnel side. However, he also maeks the point he's very happy to be working with Paal, so that's clearly significant.

Well said . Don’t even listen to Marti’s . Not on my list of priorities.

Not seen this Norf.......not sure his comments suggest he is on the transfer list, as such.
Glad MC thinks he is a good footballer, but I already knew that and continually say that, just a real shame many posters want to 'dig him out', even outside of the football pitch.
We will see if he is here next season but if he isn't we would have lost a decent LB capable of playing football at Championship at a very decent level.

Good to know some of our fans assume our manager is a priori a liar!
For God's sake SE, nobody is saying he is a liar. Club interviews are PR exercises. That's why you are not going to find anything in them that you don't already know or they don't want you to know, for whatever reason.
Interviews with outside sources are also limited as they are mainly built on friendly relationships, so you won't get much from them either
I thought you would have grasped that by now, after being steered in that direction by plenty of other posters.

My dad's mate worked for Holsten, sponsors of Tottenham at the time and got me and my mate into the Spurs hospitality suite for the day.
We watched countless videos of how fantastic Spurs were and their illustrious history. We walked on the pitch. We saw Gazza's jockstrap hanging up in the changing rooms.
We're then plied with lager and wine, fed a three course banquet and then escorted to our seats for the game. A quick Whisky at half time and then a cheese and biscuits buffet afterwards.
BTW it was Spurs v QPR and ended up goalless.
The reason, I mention all this.
We were treated an hour after the game, in front of our very eyes and the Spurs media main man at the time, did a post match interview with the wonderful talent that was Vinny Samways.
I did not think it was possible to say the phrase "we will take it one game at a time" so many times in a three minute interview.
The only difference today is, many players are interviewed much more regularly. They do however get a lot of media training now but the only effect of such help is that most of them now know many more different ways of expressing that they are taking things one game at a time.
