Forever R's - Les Ferdinand 12:05 - Feb 22 with 2502 viewsnumptydumpty

Appreciate Forever R's was, more than likely a new scheme and probably was introduced under Les's watch.

He was in my eyes, our greatest ever number nine.

Definitely in my time of watching Rangers.

The guy got so much stick, unfortunately also a few personal insults as Director of Football, but if ever a man deserves an ovation for his unbelievable contribution to our history - its Les.

I get the times under his watch with regards to being the Director of Football weren't the best, but you could always tell he gave it his all. In fact, the sh*t show that he inherited with a squad of massively over paid has-been prima donnas, he did well to stabilise us and especially with the finances and also throughout dealing with the FFP fine hanging over us every season, I think he did a decent job.

Ainsworth as manager from day one was a disaster as a manager from ourselves and although obviously none of us could have been happy with his performances in the role, he got no personal insults at all, as a previous legend at the club.

I know a lot on here were heavily critical of Les - harshly in my eyes, but I do feel the club should introduce him into the Forever R's club most definitely.

Maybe, its too early after he left and with a lot of the previous regime still here, perhaps it wont happen as yet.

Surely has to though, am certain the crowd at the ground would give the guy a standing ovation.

As said our greatest centre forward ever - surely needs looking at ??

The best of his generation but not ever. Ferdinand did score 80 goals in 163 appearances but George Goddard (my Dads favourite) scored 174 in 243 games, including 39 in one season. Because of the money lost on the first White City debackle we were forced to sell him.

Yes would not have any idea about him.

Paul Goddard is about as far back as I go.

Clive Allen has a better Rangers record than Ferdinand
1 goal every 1.88 games against 1 in every 2.03

His overall career record is better as well

He did have more years in the second division with QPR though than Ferdinand who only played in the top flight for us

Ainsworth didn't get any personal insults?

I must have imagined all the stuff about his physical appearance then.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

I know this is controversial/endlessly debatable but I think of les as our best player ever.

I don't think his physical appearance wasn't mocked. However, his Cuban heels and ridiculous hair were.

And justifiably so, because let's be honest, the bloke did look a muppet!

There were a few memes calling him Frank Gallagher being thrown around by QPR fans.

And?

It's hardly as if they were going to call him, Daniel Craig or, Marti Cifuentes for that matter!

If we did a Family Fortunes style survey with 100 Rangers fans I’m going for:

1) Stan
2) Rod nee
3) Les

I didn’t see Stan play, apart from his testimonial game at Griffin Park in the late 80’s.

Les was the best player I have even seen play for Rangers. Also my favourite ever player.

Stan & Rodney will always by the top two for most fans I guess but I know where you’re coming from silverbirch.

Ferdinand was an absolutely outstanding player for us, unplayable on his day. Fast, powerful and good both in the air and on the ground.

Absolutely should be recognised. Presided over a very difficult time for the club and IMHO did the best he could.

I agree, but I think you’d have to ask a middle aged demographic that question to get those results. Our younger following might only just be fortunate enough to have seen or appreciate Taraabt play.

Somebody did a survey where you had to repeatedly choose one player over another (sometimes this caused physical pain) until you ended up with the best/most popular.
I can’t remember the top three but would expect that it matched your three.
Anyone have a link to the results?

Who actually chooses the Forever R's? Obviously TV is a must as should Adel be. Someone who I knew Alex Farmer should also be on there. For those that don't know he was a player for us and was also Alec Stock's right hand man during our rise to the first division in the 60's

How many of those goals were scored in the top flight ?

For a player who didn't take many pens Ferdinand's record is outstanding and our best ever number 9 IMO

Undoubtedly so.

That's further reinforced by the fact that he then went to Newcastle and scored a mere 41 goals in just 68 games, again in the Premier League. 50 goals in 80 games in all competitions, which is why he's more revered up there, in my view, than he is at our place.

The fact that he elected not to go onto the pitch with his fellow players who were being inducted/recognised for what they achieved during their time at QPR, for fear of the reaction he would receive, is a disgrace to our club and certain sections of our support base.
