QPR finances released on 10:18 - Feb 24 by gazza1 | I have not looked at them....not really my thing tbh - as you know I'm a football man not a f'ing accountant. Anyways I somewhat agree with your spending comments but as far as Tom, Dick & Harry's wages I would not expect that to be detailed so what the poster is saying has got no 'holding' in my book. It is purely guesswork!!! without any foundation. Wages are a very emotive thing and can cause massive issues especially in the game we are talking about. |
It's not idle speculation. The accounts are published and in the public domain. At least have the decency to look at them before you decide to criticise folk for discussing player wages. However, if you're "a football man not a f'ing accountant" and you find the topic "emotive" then I suggest for your own well-being that you stick to commenting solely on the football. QPR finances released on 22:01 - Feb 23 by Northernr | Well let's stick to the hard facts then. If you take out the free transfers and loans then this summer we got Madsen, Celar, Dembele, Varane, Bennie and Morrison. For £9m. |
How do you get to £9m? The post balance sheet note says net outflow of 4.3m? And the contingent part (I guess Dembele…maybe Saito?) was 1.66m? The only players we got money in from were Dykes and Armstrong based on the same note. I would imagine there must be some contingent payment for Armstrong.

Exactly. I’m not even against a new stadium, I’d just like a football stadium preferably on the footprint we have. [Post edited 24 Feb 15:56]

Well I read it that the post balance sheet note says a NET outflow of £4.3m with another liability of £1.66m NET on top of that (like you say, presumably Dembele or Saito). So that's a NET spend of £5.96m, which if we did get £2m for Armstrong and £1m for Dykes equals around £9m, no? If I'm wrong I'll hold my hands up by I've spoken with people that know these things better than me and they read it the same.

QPR finances released on 20:36 - Feb 23 by BrianMcCarthy | Great to hear. I agree with Gazza and Ned on this point, until this is analysed properly there is huge space for speculation, ITK and fake-ITK nonsense. And that is never helpful. The truth always comes out. |
I somewhat disagree. The figures are there in the public domain and therefore open to scrutiny. Whilst there isn't a low-level breakdown of each and every player salary, there is enough high level information on staff and payroll to make an educated estimate on average player salary. Page 19 of the accounts shows that payroll costs for the year end 31-May-2024 was just shy of £24m (a figure that excludes key management compensation). Now whilst this was paid to 176 staff, I don't think it's a stretch to presume that the first team squad of 24-ish players earned the lions share of that. Unless, of course, folk think that stadium, retail, admin, maintenance and support staff were being paid millions, in which case you can expect to see me flipping hot dogs at HQ soon. You’re both right ultimately. We have spent £6m net, so whatever we recovered for Armstrong & Dykes we also spent on top of the £6m to get the gross outlay. On the £1.66m, Dembele definitely wouldn’t be included in that as Nourry insists we’ve agreed a permanent deal, so he would be in the £6m. If Saito is an obligation to buy under certain KPi’s, he would also be in the £6m. My best guess would be then that the £1.66m is Madsen, Celar and Varane performance add-ons.

Ok, I didn’t realize Armstrong and Dykes was that much. But what you say does make sense. I would add that Dembele must be in the 4.3m outflow as he became permanent in 2024 before firing accounts. It’s odd that Dembele isn’t mentioned though. The contingent part is confusing but also important because if say Dykes and Armstrong were 1m combined now and rest was contingent on eg promotion, then 5.3m doesn’t sound so bad. Someone has probably asked this, but can you ask what the FFP estimated headroom is? Thanks I’m over-simplifying because I always look at cash but seems that we’ve gone from 32m outflow before shareholders put up cash in prior year to 18m. That’s a significant improvement. Staff down by 13 but imagine that will be even lower given departures in summer. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We have asked and they won't say. For once I'm kind of with them on that, you don't really want buying or selling clubs knowing how close you are on that line. Nourry and Hoos have both said we underestimate what counts as a disallowable cost though, suggesting we were not as close to the line as we made out - although given our three year total is now well in breach one can only assume there are LOTS of disallowable costs.

I’ve been (naively, I accept) transparent about how I’ve come to hear some things about the current day to day at the club. Of course I don’t know to the £ how much players are earning - you can count on one hand how many at the club do and it would be an enormous GDPR breach for them to disclose. And Nourry who approves the deals is hardly Mr Informative. Without being a cnt about it though, I’ve been told a rough figure for some of these guys. As to what the clubs working on much lower budgets than us pay their best players, of course again I’m guesstimating, but if the likes of Oxford, Pompey, Plymouth, Preston, Millwall, Coventry, Derby are paying what we are then whatever naive hopes I had for the future of football is gone. Put it like this, Cook turned us down the first time for Forest and moved his family away from the south coast because he got his last long term, PL wages deal. He didn’t agree to rip that up and move his family again for a few grand a week. Colback didn’t turn down other clubs and move his family for a few grand a week. Both of those guys had to work with us on the phasing of their deals as well because of our FFP situation meaning year 2 would always be much higher. Frey and Andersen didn’t tear up their contracts at Liege and AaB and play the second half of last season for practically expenses in return for a few grand a week this season. Fully respect that you see it differently, I’m happy to bring this thread back in 12 months though and we can compare the wage bills for this season and last. I’m comfortable it will have unfortunately increased a hefty amount.

It is pure idle speculation as far as I am concerned unless posters have been informed by senior club officials on the finance side of the club. Whatever posters think about earning/wages when you are talking about 176 employees wages is pure guesswork & speculation....whether you read the accounts or not. Sure the players earn the majority but Team Management, coaches, doctors, physio's, your Andy Sinton's etc will take up another big slice of the £24 million. I would suggest it is near impossible to give a valued wage for individuals.......unless they have inside information. Perhaps if that detail was published I would read the accounts!!!! but it isn't. Even when players sign for the club it is not easy to estimate when start talking about transfer fees, signing on fees and other add-on's, easier maybe but still difficult. PS - Thanks for the suggestion but not interested.

You have been informed by senior club officials on the finance side of the club. Lee Hoos himself presents the report on behalf of the Board of Directors and signs off the financial statements contained within. The payroll information is there for all to see on page 19. It doesn't take a mathematical genius to analyse this information. Now, if you prefer to bury your head in the sand, that's your prerogative, but keep your weak criticism of those who choose not to to yourself (especially when you can't even be bothered to take a look at the accounts). QPR finances released on 16:53 - Feb 24 with 764 views | dm97 | Surprised at the surprise on here to the cost of some of the outlays this summer. A) There are quite a lot of sources at the time saying almost bang on what the figures were (based on the analysis in this thread). B) Signing u25s is always a more expensive strategy in terms of fees because you’re buying based on potential. For argument sake let’s say Varane and Colback are the same level; Varane is obviously going to cost you far more than colback in transfer fees because you’re paying for the potential upside (a ~10-15£m move to the Prem). C) Most compellingly, it’s QPR. We always sign players and the expensive ones never turn out to be the best.

Interesting....... OK I respect you have somebody like 'in the know' about QPR, wish I had someone, best I got is a geezer who sits close to me on matchdays!!! As for Cook & Colback, could be lots of reasons why they come here, not all footballers are mercenary bastards!!! Not a clue about wages etc overseas for Frey & Anderson but they should not be within the higher earners as far as I am concerned. I would expect the wage bill to have increased in 12 months time as well. [Post edited 24 Feb 16:58]

When Cook joined Forest they were 9th in the Championship and definitely not odds on for the play offs. Bournemouth were in their second season in the Championship and he'd lost his place in the team. We will never know the structure of the Forest deal or any promotion increases. I am sure Forest offered more than QPR, but it wouldn't have been a PL wages deal. I still like to believe we have a max wage structure and Cooks wages are within.

I have no idea about exact numbers but think Cook, Colback, Frey and Anderson all signed on small wages for the first year to help keep us under the line for FFP and would then get a big increase in year 2 which won't show fully on the balance sheet until this time next year

Even just replace the old metal roof coverings with clear light permeable polycarbonate roofs to all four stands and given the lighter loading extend the roofs further over the lower tiers - that would make such a huge difference to the comfort, aesthetics, amenity, general feel (and pitch quality!) and frankly shouldn’t cost a packet. Family stand could be relocated to the paddocks under cover of an extended new roof covering. While at it; how about looking at relocating the TV gantry to the SAR stand which has more head room and could free up/reinstate some seating in Ellerslie Road. Anyway - back to the original topic of this thread…
