Pompey and Circumstance Match Fred 16:02 - Feb 21 with 24747 views | PinnerR | I rarely post and have never started a match fred, but to celebrate 70 years of supporting the Rs this year I thought I'd do it. 2-0 to the good guys. [Post edited 21 Feb 16:31]

Pompey and Circumstance Match Fred on 22:49 - Feb 22 by stainrods_elbow | As MC pointed out in his pre-match interview, we won 56 points last season. This season, with 12 games to play, we have 44pts, so we need four wins and a draw from 12 games to pip that total by a single point. You'd think we'd achieve that, but I don't necessarily feel we'll get a lot more. Gut says we'll probably finish with about 64 pts at best and finish somewhere around where we are now, so marginal improvement in terms of results. Unless the squad is significantly upgraded next season, I foresee further mediocrity next year. |
All facts, but we can and should feel a lot better about being where we are today than if we had flipped the two "halves" (so far) and been on 30 points after 17 games instead of on 14 like we were. Anybody on here who wouldn't have taken being on 44 points and more or less safe in February if it had been offered in December is a lying b*stard.

It's really all about the first half of the season. Just two home wins, e.g. against Plymouth and Hull would have us just two points off the play offs. You're bound to have the odd off day but we can't now without missing our chance for the play offs because we started so poorly but I agree I would've taken mid table after last season! Yeah, a small squad, undone by injuries and a raft of new signings not familiar with the championship. Even at this stage, our centre forward options are Michi and Alfie, both likeable for sure, but.... I'm not convinced Chair has fully recovered from his back injury yet. Refs seem to be letting a lot go this season (which I actually don't mind, within reason), I think this may be contributing to his quieter performances. But as a team, we don't cope well with teams taking a more physical approach. Nardi certainly struggles with this, I'm wondering if his confidence has taken a bit of a knock recently. Likewise Smyth, albeit for different reasons. He was living his best, central to so much. Yang is brought in, don't think he's been on it in quite the same way since. Big summer coming up. The second goal, Paal losing his man, had he not pushed up as we attempted to play out? The dangers of that type of football, more than anything.

Nardi completely bottled their third, disallowed goal.

He's going to get targeted more and more. Unless he works out how to deal with it, it's going to be a real problem going forward. A shame, because in terms of shot stopping and all round likeablity, he's up with the best.

Pompey and Circumstance Match Fred on 22:28 - Feb 22 by CroydonCaptJack | Of course we've improved. We were 5 points from safety to comfortably safe. That statement is just patently wrong. |
Goalkeeper - massive improvement obviously. Defence - Dunne has been superb but our outstanding defender, who stood up to the home crowd getting on his back admirably yesterday, is not ours. Morrison looks like a good find but ironically has lost his place to Edwards. Midfield - has looked good on occasions but yesterday highlighted how we need improvement. Varane was schooled by Hayden and we lacked creativity. Madsen was clearly bought for that purpose but now can't even get on the bench. Attack - I'll never knock Frey but he is limited. Alfie and Kohli are promising, and Celar, despite his goals at Cardiff, is still unproven. Smith has pace but anonymous performances like yesterday show why we need better - Yang deserved to start based purely on his assist against Derby which was light years ahead of Smith. Again, the loan player is better than what we have. Obviously love Koki. So for me, if you take out the loan players, the main improvement is the goalkeeper and the emergence of some decent young raw talent. We're still weak as piss whenever we come up against a tough, basic Championship team like Millwall or Portsmouth, and that needs to be addressed in the summer otherwise it's midtable mediocrity again in perpetuity.
Pompey and Circumstance Match Fred on 11:09 - Feb 23 with 472 views | lassel | Late to the party as with a newborn there’s more to life than getting worked up about our average championship club. Others have probably already said it, but stooping to Pompeys level and providing such a vindaloo dump of long ball slop was not only hard to swallow, but also self defeating as you’ll never outfarm a team used to playing farm football. Frey as bad as performance as he’s ever given. Worst spend of 5 figures for the week since that Escort Cosworth with 200k miles was going around on Autotrader. Lloyd then showing why we have to play Frey when put clean through and not only failing to work the keeper but closer to setting off the collision warning for the Isle of Wight ferries out of Gunwharf than hitting the target. Dunne back to playing as the footballer that made Cifuentes give up on him as a CB and dump him out wide, Chair at his wasteful worst just after being his clinical best. A shitshow from which nobody emerged with any credit. And as said during the game, Hayden couldn’t have telegraphed his feelings for Nourry any more publicly if he’d had them tattooed on his chest and ripped his shirt off celebrating the goals. Which he nearly did..

As further evidence, a newly promoted team have done the double over us, the most recent victory secured by a midfield containing two of our cast-offs from last season. If it's really true Nourry vetoed the signing of Hayden to get Ashby on loan instead, then he should hang up his laptop. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Your opening paragraph seems to contradict the rest of your comments as you do sound quite worked up.

Judging by Pompey's home record over the last 10 games, we're not the only ones
