I know they have to do it for safety reasons, but does anyone think its frustrating that we have to net off the first 3 or 4 rows of seats in the School End Lower when we know that they could be sold.

Surely it makes more sense to put some kind of permanent canopy between the top and bottom, so that those 3 or 4 rows can actually be released for sale.

Surely any such canopy would block the view from the back rows of School End Lower, so you wouldn't actually gain any capacity? You can also imagine some idiot pissed up away fan jumping down onto the canopy being a wally and it causing mayhem.

I would rather we blocked off the first 3 rows of the upper tier and then sold whole of bottom tier to us .

The less away fans in the ground the better imo

I have a season ticket in there and it is very rarely full so not sure we are missing out on much really. Probably only been properly full once all season.

I'm gonna move back to Stan Bowles next season - while the cheap cost had been nice and there has been a good community built up in the main season ticket bit behind the goal I do miss knowing what is happening at both ends of the pitch!

I do actually think in an ideal world, that bottom tier would be a good place to put the family stand in given the players come through that area.

I have sat in that area myself and it is quite a reasonable sized concourse and it is under cover as well compared to the Loft Lower so it could be a good place to have it imo.

We seem determined to lower the capacity of what is already, clearly, a cramped ground at every opportunity. First, the fiasco of those apparently unsold/unsellable in the away end corner, which still earn us online opprobium from disgruntled visitors regardless, enlarging Sky's hospitality, and now this nonsense. The usual suspects will throw accusations of bashing the club, but it's embarrassing, revenue-restricting, and just unprofessional.

Poll: Playoffs?

I was just thinking there surely has to be a better way of getting that whole lower tier opened without the need to net off the first few rows.

I know a lot of it is not the clubs fault, but it does fustrate me, especially as it's revenue we're losing at the end of the day.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

There was a canopy (or at least netting) hanging from the front of the upper tier to protect the QPR fans sitting in the lower tier during our promotion-wining season of 2010/11. As soon as we got promoted the club returned to giving the entire School End to away teams.

I got into a bit of an email back and forth with someone at the club over it. They insisted that they had to give 3,000 seats to visiting fans, despite me pointing to the rules that clearly stated it was 3,000 seats or 10% of capacity if the stadium held less than 30,000.

It would be very easy to re-install it.

Ipswich are finding it hard in the premier league this season as they have to give the 3k to away fans. This means that half of the Cobbold stand and the lower tier section are used for away fans.I guess a few that had season tickets in those parts in previous seasons have had to be moved to other areas,or lost their season tickets while they are in the top division.
We seem to have a small block in the lower school for away fans too but I don’t know whether that’s to bring the total up to 10% of capacity,or just an overspill for the fans who can’t find a seat upstairs.

I think Ipswich did have to move home fans from their seats cause the PL rule say you have to give 3k seats if it's above 30k or 10% if it's below 30k, whichever is lower.

Yes I do remember us putting one in and they only gave Leeds and Hull the top tier on that occasion, and we sold the whole lower tier to home fans.

Makes we wonder why we don't do it now the lower tier is open permanently to home fans for league games.

A net would work I think but it would probably restrict the view of people at the back of the school end upper. Watched a very disgruntled Derby fan from my vantage point ,looking to take his fury out on someone , choose the easy target and that was the poor sods sitting below him as he started looking for things to throw . Luckily he managed his screwed up match ticket or something similar and that was it but a net would certainly protect fans from that sort of wally.
I sat in the lower school end for the Sheffield Wednesday game and didn’t see it personally but was told by people within the club that they were spitting on the front row of the fans below . Not sure a net would protect fans from nonsense like that though.

Depends how the canopy is angled. See https://www.michaeldrain.com/project/qpr-stadium-loftus-road which shows how it could be done

It is annoying that oppositions fans seem to think it's oh so hilarious to sit in the upper corner, take a photo of the blocked view then go online saying it's ridiculous we sell those seats when they know full well we don't. I guess putting nets on those seats or having a net curtain between the blocks or even removing the seats altogether will stop those people who thing they are really 'clever'.

When we got promoted in 2011 we had to create that box for Sky, it was a requirement in the same way Luton had to pretty much rebuild the whole executive stand (cost around £10m IIRC) running down the east side of the ground.

As we are not in the PL, it's no longer used for Sky but is used as a 'premium' executive box type of thing. At a guess I'd say the money we get from hiring it out goes towards any monies lost by not being able to sell the seats behind it.

QPR have said many times that every time they do things to the stadium (replacing club crests, stadium name etc) it compromises the structure so they can't be erecting, taking down, re-erecting etc that corner box every time we get promoted, relegated, promoted etc so that's why it was left as it is, safety.

It is actually being professional despite the problems as a result of leaving it in place. Can you imagine if they did take it down, put it back up, take it down etc then one day something happened and loads of people got hurt.... everyone would be saying 'why didn't they just leave it as it is'.

It's a consequence of an aging ground.

I’ve said this before elsewhere - totally agree. Especially good for families to enter via SAR and the club shop + make SAR into a real homezone on match days… this is definitely possible if a canopy was installed as Michael Drain’s designs in my post above.

Put a huge Perspex screen in front of the upper school end. Block them in and silence them, then pipe in the sound of Q block - that’ll do it.

How much would a huge Perspex screen cost to install versus the extra income from the 4 rows of seats currently being left empty?
The lower school end rarely sells out at the minute,so is it worth the extra expense?
