A great win for Championship club Queen's Park beating Rangers 1-0 at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup. First time in quarter-finals for QP since 1928. QP keeper saved penalty in last minute of added time. Great stuff!

Great save by the Spiders keeper as Tavernier normally so good with penalties and free kicks. Will go down as one of the biggest shocks in Scottish cup history. Queens manager won the cup in 2021 with underdogs St Johnstone but very hard to see anything other than another procession for Celtic to win the trophy.
Anyway good luck to Queen's Park, winning at Ibrox, when Spurs and Celtic didn't do on their visits this season.

Last time Queens Park won the Scottish Cup was 1893 being their tenth before Rangers won their first Scottish Cup in 1894. So for 20 years the Spiders were an early force in the Scottish game.

Fantastic stuff and utterly embarrassing for Sevco. They had won a couple of games recently so the chest beating about them being back and potentially chasing down Celtic's 13 (THIRTEEN) point lead in the league was getting louder.
Not even pushing the emergency soft penalty button with seconds of added time remaining could save them. Most amusing of all, as someone pointed out on twitter, Tavernier actually sets off to celebrate after hitting the penalty

They reached two finals & lost both to Blackburn Rovers in consectutive seasons. This was at the time when Blackburn was the centre of world football! Inside ten years they won the Cup five times & lost in another final, but Blackburn Olympic won it the year before their first victory.
Back to yesterday, I really enjoyed watching the highlights & I'm still to work out how that was a penalty. I didn't know that Liam Kelly was now plying his trade at Ibrox.

It was a penalty because Rangers were losing, which is standard. They even sent it to VAR afterwards to see if there was any excuse for a retake.

It absolutely is one of the biggest shocks in history. When do Rangers or Celtic ever lose at home to lower division teams in the cup?
You will struggle to find any bigger cup shock (Rangers losing at home to Hamilton in the 80s, who were in the same division, is remembered as one) and its not like the occasional upsets in England where the prem teams send out their reserves. This was Rangers only real chance of a trophy this season so they were well up for it.
There's a huge gulf between Rangers/Celtic and even the 3rd placed premiership team every year. Its a chasm to clubs like Queens Park who play in front of crowds the size of around what Wealdstone get in non league and have only been professional for about 5 years.
