If someone said to you that we are going to sign a 23 year old who has scored 18 goals this season (let's assume that's where he finishes) on a free transfer most of us would rip your arm off and give him the chance to prove himself.
It would be amazing if Alfie could go the other way and have the same success next season.

Difficult to argue with any of that.
Celar took a long time to adapt and you are right to say he hasn't done much. But how many strikers have we had in recent years who would have finished the two he scored at Cardiff? Particularly the one-on-one second goal where you have time to think and maybe overthink!? (Dykes? Frey?)
Kelman is small and not particularly quick. So what does he offer to suggest he will crack it at this level? Everyone talks about his finishing but his goals per game average out at not much better than one in every six games, and all of those were scored in L1 and L2.
I get the doubts about Celar but he has shown he can finish at this level and he was showing signs of improvement in his play before he got injured.
For me Kelman still has it all to prove at Championship level. It could be a big pre-season for him this summer.
So for now I would still put Celar well ahead of Kelman. [Post edited 19 Feb 14:26]

The problem with Celar is he just doesn't contribute jack shit in a game , just ambles around , I'd personally try to get rid of him as he no way looks up to championship standard and nor does Madson The Friendly ghost mk2.Two of our most expensive signings I might add!! |  |

Richard Taylor is the boy.
Product of three of the best youth academies in the country.
At 19 he went out on loan to Doncaster in League 1 and scored 10 goals in 41 games from midfield.

I'm not comparing Kelman to Taylor Richards, that would be unfair. But one good season in L1 and a decent showing against an imploding Man City isn't enough to say for certain Charlie has cracked it and will kick on in the Championship next season.
Charlie has been here since 2020. We have had five managers in that time. We have also had a shortage of goals and strikers. But none of those five managers has seen enough in Charlie to give him a run in the team and play him up front.
I hope Charlie gets a fair chance to show what he can do in pre season and that he grabs the chance to force his way into the team. But I suspect we will take the money if a decent offer comes in. |  | | |

No!
Kelman is 23.
Wright was born November 1963 and joined Palace in 85:

So Wright would have been 21/22.
And anyway, it's not really relevant. Kelman signed for Southend when he was 16. There is no comparison between an undiscovered gem and someone who made his L1 debut in 2019 and has been in the pro game ever since.
Kelman will have a mountain of data on him. Wrighty back in 1985 was probably just a name and a few scribbled notes in some scout's notebook.

We need to stop assuming footballers will develop at the same rate too. Its irrelevant what age a different footballer was when they broke through. Rooney was 16, Vardy was 25, both did it at the top level. Kelman is scoring goals, is breaking through the 50 to 100 to 150 game barriers making improvements. Its all good for us whatever happens. |  |

Les Ferdinand, joined us from Hayes for 40K, came on as sub for his debut and I said to my mate “we’ve signed a skinny headless chicken” he went to Brentford on loan who were equal unimpressed, he then went to Turkey, they loved him, was even rumours in the papers that they were petitioning maggie Thatcher to get her to persuade us to sell him to them.
When he returned he was thrown in against Chelsea and scored a brace, saw him at Villa later that season in a 2-2 draw and I noticed he was no longer skinny and had thighs like Mr Universe, still he was in and out the team, suddenly in 91/92 he was given a chance and the rest is history, I’m not saying Charlie is the next Les but he may not be the same player who was with us two years ago.

If Celar wants off or we want him gone, it’s a logical move that adds competition and value to the squad.
I also think that it sends a great message to others - ‘go out on loan, do well and we’ll welcome you back and recognise/reward you for your commitment !’ |  |

Not that strange. He hadn't shown a ton of signs here that he would make the next step so nobody was sad to see him leave on loan. He's shown a lot more of those signs on loan (which was the point in him going) and so people have more belief he'll be able to step up than they did before.

The guy deserves a season here.
If it was me, give him half a season to give the boy a chance in and around the first team squad.
If its not working out, loan him to league one or sell if an offer comes in.
He deserves a chance after performing well and would also give a strong message to any other future loans, about what can happen if you perform during your time away.
