Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient 12:00 - Feb 8 with 12252 viewsDannyPaddox

Up against Man City in the FFS that was offside FA Cup. I prepare to stand corrected but I think Charlie is still our player but as I take as much interest in modern football players contracts and transfers as I do in mobile phone contracts I could be wrong. Either way seems like a good lad and having a decent season with a club I like so up the O’s!

Up against a central defender today in Ruben Dias who’s worth approx £75 mil … would love to see Charlie meg him.

Good for him, but would never have him back at Rangers. Phoned in a high number of games for us, basically guilty of wage theft. The polar opposite of Dom Ball.

Absolute rubbish mate , he has hardly played for us and last time he played he was out on the wing.

AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!

In fairness, since joining in the summer of 2020, he's played 26 times for the first team and almost always as a striker. In that time he's not registered a goal or assist.

Poor, misunderstood JTuck.....he was talking about Laird!
I was surprised Kelman had played that many games, to be honest

Not quite on topic (Kelman) - sorry. But, the FA Cup 4th Round has been turned into a long weekend football festival, largely for TV. Although we are not involved (the club has some sort of long-standing agreement with the FA, not to participate in the competition beyond January), there is something good about this mini festival. If you doubt it from what you have seen so far, then ask Plymouth Argyle. Those that live in the south-west will know what a buzz there is around today's match, which apparently will have a global TV audience. Will non-PL clubs be having a re-think about how they approach the competition in future?

Surely, we should have a re-think about the QPR approach to the FA Cup?

I wouldn't go that far, but I'd say he's found his level at League One.

After that game a lot of our Twitter idiots seem to think he's the new Les...

Kelman's performance was positively commented on by Tony Cascarino in the Times yesterday.

"Charlie Kelman, the striker on loan from Queens Park Rangers, was a real throwback. He made City’s defenders work for absolutely everything, won duels, ran channels and, on another day, might have capped his performance with a goal."

I still think his moment with us has passed.

Those 26 "appearannces" amount to about 3 1/2 - 4 games in total, spread over about 2 - 2 1/2 years!

Exactly.

He is the classic QPR 23/24 year old who until now we have racked and stacked, but clearly is never going to make it with us!

Never really been given the same opportunity/minutes to show what he might be able to to do like Celar or Lloyd has though has he?

And judging by his season so far(many goals and assists) and how he played against Man City over the weekend, he's clearly improved.

Couple of seasons back at home to Plymouth he started the game - decent chance to score, missed it. Not been seen since.

It's harsh but you do literally have to take your chances when they come along.

Jamie Vardy, Les Ferdinand?

Yes they're proven strikers at the highest level.

Charlie Kelman, sadly not.

I'm happy to see him doing well at Orient, I just don't see why people think he still has a career at QPR when he's already slipped far behind the pecking order of our forwards.

Some players improve given time. Ferdinand and Vardy as someone said. I also give you Smyth who I didn't particularly rate during his first spell with us and wasn't enthusiastic about his return, but he's come on really well with us this season, and with a previous history not dissimilar to Kelman. Don't know if Kelman can do well in the Championship or not, but it sounds like he's been doing well enough at Orient to get the opportunity, hopefully still with us.

If he comes back to us and does well, I'll eat my hat!

Isn't he out of contract in the summer anyway?

The Orient manager said on the radio that they would be priced out of making Kelman a permanent in the summer. Not confirmed whether that is transfer fee or wages, make of that what you will

I don't think we have to look any further than Paul Smyth, to not write off a player too hastily. Lots of comparisons between the two imo.

No comparisons between the two playing wise and not much of anything apart from they were here, went to LO and returned here.

Kelman should be allowed to go where he wants.......he certainly is nowhere good enough for QPR.

I don't think Myke was suggesting they are similar players.

I'm not a certain as you Gazza. People were certain Frey was finished, people were certain Furlong was finished, and (LfW klaxon) people were certain Les Ferdinand wasn't going to make it.

The Championship is a funny beast. Always a top scorer or two that comes out of nowhere.

If you didn’t know the name and heard we were in for a youngish striker from a promotion chasing team in the division below who’d scored a dozen goals I’m sure most of us would be delighted. I say give him a chance in preseason and let Marti have a good look at him. If he’s still not fancied it seems like we’d be able to sell him on for a few quid.
