Sam Kerr demonstrating that spending too long at Chelsea takes its toll on your senses.

What you believe about racism is wrong.

I have nothing else to add and will leave it there.

Ok. I think it’s more a difference of opinion that I am right and you are wrong OR you are right and I am wrong.

She should have paid the cab driver. She did later apparently.

She has certainly had a few.

But the racism charge.

Yes the Policeman, I am sure was white. Correct.

And was he stupid, well charging her for saying so, is ridiculous. So correct again tbh.

It wasn't the most aggressive conversation and another reason, why the police are so disrespected these days.

Whilst real criminals who burgle peoples homes or scam the vulnerable dreadfully are not even investigated.....

However, the one true crime is she played for Chelsea. Life sentence without parole !!!

Someone in power seriously needs to shake up modern policing - it is not fit for purpose in anyways.

People of colour are stopped and searched multiple times more than whites -that sadly is a fact of life and yes can totally understand how if she is out and dressed scruffier, she could be followed often by security. This bias is almost sadly in built into everyday policing. The stats completely corroborate this also.

Yeah agree.

But we’re in the midst of the culture wars aren’t we? Everyone terrified of making a wrong move so the safest thing to cover backs is to let the judiciary sort it out, which is only the short term solution to a much bigger problem.

Absolutely. I’d love to know though, how much does a trial like this cost the public? And to what end?

I think if the prosecution lose then we pay but I think if they win, then the defendant (Kerr / Chelsea) would have to pay all costs.

I read somewhere it’s costs £3,000 a day to run. No idea how that is broken down.

Not Guilty then!

Sounds like a big waste of tax payers money and now all police officers will be called stupid and white…

I think she’s lucky to get away with this.

Copper changed his statement. Courts don’t like inconsistent submissions do they. Standard judicial journey, let not turn this into another front in the culture war or a locked thread.

Jury's are a dozen people who have no idea about law*... I should know, I've been a juror!

As we have a jury-led system the judge has to abide by it. I'm sure over the years they've been frustrated with verdicts given, whether guilty or not guilty.

In the, quite serious, case I was on the judge made it clear that he will abide by our decision. After five days of the case, when the verdict was given he didn't give any reaction, just made notes and ended the case.

*except the ones who are lawyers but that's probably 0.001% over the course of the year.

Anybody got Pat Nevin's take on it? Cultural differences perhaps? Lovely girl, out of character? Future management material?

What's your issue with Nevin?

I actually found this argument by her defence barrister quite staggering...

Grace Forbes, defending, said: "Nobody disputes the words that were said.

"But simple words, even words like these, do not make you guilty of a criminal offence."

She added: "The words were a comment, however poorly expressed, about positions of power, about privilege, and how those things might colour perception."

Forbes is obviously a head case, and a professional liar.

If the boot had been on the other foot and the officer had called her 'stupid, black, and a lesbian', say, there'd have been hell to pay.

What a country!

It's a different loaded context I would say.

Again I am not excusing her choice of words but as she explained today in court she was implying that calling out his whiteness was to do with his privilege of not having been in her position and not understanding that she perceives herself as being treated differently due to her skin colour.
As much as some people disagree with that, unfortunately engrained discrimination and racism is still alive in our society so she has a point, as badly made as it was in the time of her no doubt intoxicated mind.

So calling some one black and stupid is not the same based on the above view point. In fact it is a lazy racial bias that used to be implied and even believed in our recent history so for me, it is more directly offensive.

I don't expect many people to agree with it but it is a valid point of view and is backed up by numerous social experiments, many done recently too.

What a lot of codswallop! Who cares what she 'perceives'? She soiled a taxi, abused a driver, broke a window, and racially insulted a policeman! And you're making special pleading! Give me a f*cking break!

Exactly. She’s 31 and about to become a mum. She’s not 15. Take responsibility and admit you did wrong and grow up. It’s no one else’s fault.

It sounds like she behaved like many a drunken 18-24 yo. At her age (31), you'd think she'd know better.

Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime."
