Kolli crowns big week with perfect Plymouth winner – Report 19th Jan 2025 22:57
Rayan Kolli has a new contract in the bag, and a winning goal on the road at Plymouth to celebrate, in the most significant week of his young career so far. 11

Excellent report as always sorry about the miserable trip home nothing is easy right now it sounds like .
Some limbs would be bent or broken if Sam Field had buired that chance in fact lots of people thought it was in going of the throathy roars as it flew wide.
Just imagine if we could win at Hull it would be something incredible and dont forget we really owe SW after last years shambolic late collaspe .

Thanks Clive.

Perhaps not being completely in control of the ball makes it hard for defenders to tackle you. If so, it would appear to be a cunning plan of sorts.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Paul Smyth, maybe the most infuriating player I have ever watched. Imagine being a teammate !
Despite not liking loans, I thought Edwards was superb, bringing the ball out and defending. MotM for me.

Disappointing game for Morgan, but he's only 18, and he has set himself a high bar. I wouldn't be surprised to see him rested for a couple of games soon.

Best thing about the game is that we controlled it.

Thank you Clive - Another enjoyable read to ease myself into the week ahead.

I was pleased to see Edwards put in a decent performance after his poor show at Leicester the previous week. With Cook and Morrison back on the grass that hole in the middle of our defence looks to be fully plugged going forward.

I watched on TV and a massive shout out to the travelling fans - Sold out away end in Devon for a 12.30pm kick off in mid January is truly amazing. The photo on your Twitter feed captures the delight perfectly.

I still find it incredible our recovery from the end of November - For the first time in what seems like years I am no longer checking the other results of the teams round us which seems to have also improved my health and lowered my blood pressure.

Thanks for the report Clive and kudos to all the Rs who made it there (especially with the very delayed train journey back).

It was one of those odd games where despite all the chances we passed up I was still confident we'd find a winner. And I was worried about Edwards and Fox at CB, but clearly for Marti it was horses for courses and they both played well - the Plymouth front line did not have a lot to bother them.

On to Hull where we shouldn't have too much to fear, they're clearly not as strong as they were last season. Let's see how we go.

There is no such thing as a long trip home after 3 points on the road - longer the better is my recollection from my travelling days

On which…. Surely it cannot be 22 years since Ooooh Richard Paquetre in the back of the net….Yeah!
I remember that day and the trip there like it was yesterday

Was interested to see who you made MoM and I thoroughly agree in the choice of Smudge.
So pleased for the wee man.
A very close second has to be Samuel Field….. if the net had rippled he would have bagged it but that really was his only blemish and he played a true Captain role for the whole game.

Onwards

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Took the skin off my left shin when we scored. Worth it.

Cheers Clive & I hope that you were all civil to the referee in the pub!

Yes, we missed 5 chances that we should have scored, with Edwards being the hardest of them, but we created 5 clear goal scoring chances. That is something I couldn't envisage two months ago. Indeed, I said in the pub pre match against Stoke that the only way we would score was from an own goal!

Obviously, it won't be the same number going to Hull midweek, but I expect we've sold at least double the number of tickets I would expect. Hopefully, you have another good night.

The Second Coming of Smythy is one of the stories of the season for me. We've got some serious ammo from coming from this little fella now. Really heartwarming, given how much he clearly wants to succeed here, and shows that a little patience and faith goes a long way.

End product still not quite there but can't fault his pace and effort which is a real headache for the oppo. Keep it going wee man.

I agree. Most improved player for me so far this season. It seems barely recognisable as the same player. His decision making has improved, he draws so many free kicks and is a real grafter as well helping out in defence.

It worked wonderfully for Jamie Mackie. I think it was one of the EPL games where the guy behind me said to his mate "Mackie always looks surprised if he is still in possession after a dribble".

The grass is always greener.

Great report, but you need to give more credit to the Preview. Going back to predicting a defeat put us on much safer ground after your debacle in the Leicester preview. Lessons learned all round :-)

Its working beautifully in this winning streak he is using the tried and tested reverse psychology of predicting a loss for us yet deep down knowing we should pull it off its brilliant

I’m really impressed and pleased with how Smyth has come on. I was not happy when we signed him, but I’ve been proved wrong. A great example to other players who may struggling to settle in the side, he shows that persistence and determination can pay off.

Re Smyth it was not surprising to be told when I did the stadium tour with my son recently that while all the other players turn up in their cars and park by the school, PS always gets the tube to the ground and is first to arrive.

As we were walking towards the tube, who do we bump into but PS walking in the other direction. He was very happy to stop for a selfie with my son, and couldn't have been nicer.

it was certainly frustrating, and I lost my sense of humour after arriving at Exeter 3 hours later than scheduled and then had to wait there for over an hour for a new tain crew to arrive.

I also share all the sentiments about the crapiness of the infrastructure in the UK etc. but on this occasion it was due to a fatality on the line blocking all rail travel on that particular part of the network. There's not a hell of a lot GWR can do about that to be fair, and the train staff did their utmost to make it as bearable as they could.

Anyway, great report and great away day - I had plans big for Saturday evening which obviously got kicked into touch, but the result and the performance made it all worthwhile.

I went down the night before but for the many who did there and back on the day - what an effort. Great support and great atmosphere.

Glory hunter, me
