Kolli signs new deal! on 16:02 - Jan 17 by terryb | The same day as the transfer window Brian. I assume 31st January. |
Ok, thanks Terry. That's that, then, I'd imagine.

Kolli signs new deal! on 16:16 - Jan 17 by QPRSam | I prefaced it with "A letter Rayan's father wrote to Chris Ramsey". Public post on social media. Sorry if that wasn't clear |
I don't follow Kolli's dad on socials, sorry. Reminds me a bit of when Scowen's dad came out to defend him. I reckon Kolli would be better off not having his details or intentions broadcast. For example, everyone loves Charlie Austin, even though he engineered that move to Southampton, and we all loved Mick Beale till we found out he'd been applying for every other job available...

Kolli signs new deal! on 16:16 - Jan 17 by Wilkinswatercarrier | Reckon he needs a summer off season that Willock had after his first year. Came back bulked up and could physically hold his own. I can't wait to see a forward line of Chair and Dembele wide, Kolli at 10 with Celar up top. Lots of pace and movement. Varane and Morgan in the CM roles. Quite exciting! |
Agree, that’s an appetising forward line.

Kolli signs new deal! on 14:06 - Jan 17 by LazyFan | This is why we need Academy 1 status. It means you get more from the tribunal. And if Prem clubs are not sure with Academy 2 status for sure that increases their risk if we are at Academy 1 status. May help to frighten a few off. But it costs more, you say? Well, according to recent reports, QPR now says that it's not that much more, so in my view we might as well do it. Another reason is, let's say, that a new prospect appears, 13-year-old Kevin Gallen, is the latest and greatest out there at his age. Lucky QPR are on to him in a flash, but this means Arsenal, Fulham, and, of course, 500 agents vanking off Chelsea are, too. If we say, with QPR, you talk to this Gallen player and tell him and his parents that he has a great chance of getting in the first team and then going up into the Prem and England, ala Eze and Sterling. Also, if not, then look at Manning, Bos, even Dieng and Armstrong. There is a career from QPR in the harsh world of football for you. Then back this up with the latest three who have come through (Morgan, Lloyd and Kolli). We even have a Prem class training ground and a full coaching staff, and so on. But then come in the Chelscum, and they say, "Yeah, but we also have this and more. Also, more money for you, and we have Academy 1, which is needed to give you the best chance possible to develop into the best player you could possibly be". That's not true, of course, but as we know, Gallen's mum and dad would want that; they would actually be swayed more by the Academy 1 status as the money will come. They will want to give their son the best possible chance and be in a mental state that they did the best for their son they could have possibly done. Why would you not? In my biased view, if we have the money to do it, we should definitely get Academy 1 status. It would give us more leeway on tribunals, promote the club as a Prem class in waiting, and endure smarter parents towards us who know Chelsum is all money and no career. But not having it, means some will be swayed by that. Clubs, if they can afford it, need to show that they have all the capability to bring young Gallen all the way through with the highest training and coaching capabilities known in the industry. It's simple to understand, how many Prem clubs don't have Academy 1 status? |
Thank you for the insights. Nourry said in his recent talk that moving to Academy 1 status would not stop bigger clubs stealing our players, so I was left wondering at the value of it. If clubs would have to pay more compensation, I understand it more. Nourry said it simply comes down to a cost benefit analysis, and that also makes more sense now - ie how much does it cost extra to get this status v how much more in compensation do we think we would receive assuming bigger clubs come and steal x number of our young players? BTW, if the system is as you describe it seems very unfair (guess I shouldn't be surprised): I would argue the smaller clubs - mainly not academy 1 - are surely the ones in more need of compensation?

Kolli signs new deal! on 15:17 - Jan 17 by BrianMcCarthy | I do think he needs regular game time if he's going to continue to develop, but I think you nailed it when you mentioned guaranteed game time at the loan club. Plus injuries here will probably mean that he stays for a few weeks anyway. When does the loan window close? Feb or March? [Post edited 17 Jan 15:29]

You'd think given our situation he'll get at least 10 more starts between now and the end of the season which is arguably better for him than 20 starts a few leagues lower Lloyd has already had a few loans and think as an impact sub to chase and close people down when holding onto a lead he's a great asset to keep around | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Absolutely right. We've struggled in the past when Smyth goes off because other teams push up to our halfway line and it's like the Alamo. Alfie's pace pushes them right back.

Kolli signs new deal! on 12:43 - Jan 17 by Dorse | Future historians will need to know the exact date that Kolli signed the deal that eventually led him to become a £263m forward, signing for Bayern Munich and winning the 2027 Super Duper League Of Really Big Clubs And That. Either that or we're just nosey bastards. I know I am. |
I wonder if you could zoom in on the picture of him signing the contract and see what date he’s signed it. If not, the only other course I can think of is that all future contracts need to be announced with a picture of the player holding his new contract alongside a copy of today’s newspaper.

Kolli signs new deal! on 20:46 - Jan 17 with 619 views | derbyhoop | Been a good week off the field. Morgan, Lloyd and, now, Kolli. 3 young players tied down on long-term, whatever that means, deals. In time, they could take us to the PL OR, more likely, be sold on for good fees. The latter could fund further improvements. It worked for Brentford and Brighton.

I’m pretty sure none of those things took place this week. I’m far from ITK but I’ve heard that Dunne has also signed. [Post edited 17 Jan 20:51]

That's credible. Even so, consecutive announcements generate a feel good factor. Expect more next week, then?

I like your idea of the smaller clubs getting more money. The way it could work is based on last season's position. So, the club at 92 who gets relegated could get an EXTRA £2m+ from a Prem club that wins the league. And then it's all based on some algorithm that works out being less than that £2m+ if they are closer in the league. So, that's what they are worth in the market tribunal price + extra based on how much lower they are in the league. If they are not lower, then it's just the market tribunal price. This should make clubs like Fulham and Liverpool think twice before stealing players from us (which they have done in the past). Also, as there will be less stealing now clubs more of an incentive to develop their players more. If, the tracking club is say in Spain, then we will need to work that out too. But this can be done by Champions League positions and other euro competitions providing a score along with league equivalent positions. I am sure some bright stato can work that out. It won't be perfect, someone like the scum will find loopholes (like buying from a lower affiliate club and then so on), but at least there is a chance that the smaller clubs could get some more dosh for the player.

Kolli signs new deal! on 21:50 - Jan 17 with 422 views | Lblock | Brilliant news on Kolli A player I’ve been championing for a long time and I really think we’ve got a player on our hands here. I really think he will score some special goals for us and lots don’t realise just what skillsets this lad has in his box. He’s also not shy in putting in a shift and sticking his head in where it hurts. He’s also got a bit of pace. Basically he’s second choice behind Frey already for me and Celar fourth choice even if fit

Thing is I know it's a PR exercise I prefer announcements being spread out. I don't think it makes sense to announce two on the same day, then a match day and then nothing for a week. Much better to me to have the news separated over a week.

There has been a lot of angst over this signing, he and his Dad have been made to look a certain way for criticising the club, and people in the know called liars. Let’s not forget that Kolli received racist abuse for not signing a couple of months ago. If a utility company, an estate agent, or the government pulled this kind of thing we’d be a bit miffed. It’s not crime of the century granted, and I have sympathy for the need for corporate secrecy to give us a competitive edge but I really resent being manipulated by something frankly I love. I’m a supporter not some mug punter. We rightly took Paliadini to pieces over things like this, albeit he was more damaging and malicious, and I think decent results (which the club deserves credit for) are covering a lot of sins. It’s a thin end of a wedge. [Post edited 18 Jan 0:00]

If that’s one of the main things people are moaning about then we must be doing ok as it’s a minor issue. Drip feeding good (or bad) news goes on in virtually all businesses including every football club. I worked in car sales for a long time and guaranteed you’d be hit by news of shiny new models and offers at EVERY UK and European sales conference, same as holding good news back for fans forums (unless you’re Sheffield Wednesday)
