Marti's pre-Plymouth talk on 16:37 - Jan 17 by BrianMcCarthy
More and more I'm wondering if our managers are actually under tacit, if not express instructions to de-prioritise the cups.
Cifuentes has just got done for 6 goals in one of the three competitions we enter and he looks remarkably comfortable about it all.
MC would not be pleased with the result mate, nor some of the players performances = 100%.
As for the priority....he wants to win but he also wants a fit & capable squad for the Plymouth match. It will not just be him, but a few of his team will be giving their opinions.

Good and interesting point, Brian, I had always thought it was the other way round and feel that the owners or those above should make it plain that the cups are important, perhaps even more important than the league. You could well be right.
I am still annoyed, and even if we win at Plymouth I still will be, right up till next season's 3rd round.
I don't buy Marti's replies. I don't care about keeping squad players happy - it's not De Bruyne on the bench but a kid keeper and a loanee CB. Balls to it they can work their way in like everyone else.
Going to try and get over it now!

So the players don't want to compete in the Cup either now? If so, it's even worse than I thought!

It was on twitter, I didn't check the board. Isn't it a thought we don't completely throw in the towel on our 3m investment on Madsen, just like we didn't do so with Marti? How are the players meant to improve, become cohesive etc. It certainly wasn't an unknown core with JCS, Paal, Field, Varane, Chair, Saito, Kolli

You seem to have missed Gaza's post, my namesake, but its worth reading.
I was mildly frustrated with all the changes myself - given the pre-match talk - but when you break it down as Gaza has done, which specific changes do you object to? I give you Madsen, btw, but apart from that? Given potential fitness issues around Dunne and Smyth in particular, how would you justify not resting them (given what the heavy schedule appears to have done to Cook)? Finally, would you prefer Marti to not even consider all the data that, fairly scientifically now, sets out the fitness and medical wellbeing of individual players? After all, you feel able to condemn Marti's decisions fairly robustly without, I assume, having access to all the information that the head coach surely considers before naming his team

Lets see if you are happy if he picks the same team tomorrow and if losing does nothing about it until we are 3 goals behind. His lack of subs in the second half spoke volumes.
I love Marti and think he's done a great job with us but that was rubbish last week. I do get why he changed it but last week was so disappointing, I've still got the hump about it
You're absolutely entitled to have the hump Dave, as is anyone else but it's not just about tomorrow in my view, which is why I supported Marti.
FA Cup third round just comes at a silly time when we've had a run of matches close to each other. I would've been worried about over-playing Smyth, Dunne and Morgan anyway. Losing them for one match is better than losing them to an injury like we just did with Cook.
So if we pick up points without muscle injuries over the next month that's Marti's rationale , not just tomorrow's result.
Obviously you and everyone else can still feel aggrieved but it's not all down to one match.

I'm not pretending I know, Gary. I'm not even guessing. Just wondering.
Cifuentes is the umpteenth manager that we've had this chat about. Maybe it's not the manager, is all I'm wondering.
I'm with you, by the way, I just don't understand it.

Thank you Francis....No reply from SE yet!!!!
We, and those who've agreed with me, had better just agree to differ like gentlemen.
Just a bit puzzled by your line about seeing whatever you see week in week out with your own eyes. What do I think I use ('week in week out') - a Dalek's eye stalk?

I took it that he was pretty annoyed Brian. He said he had never been hit for six before and that he wasn't happy about it. He's not Neil Warnock.😁
The most annoying thing to me was/is/remains his lack of self-scrutiny - as if it doesn't even occur to him to wonder if making six changes (and failing to make proactive substitutions that the world and his dog could see were needed) might correlate in any way with conceding six goals. If that had been Nourry getting interviewed, he'd have been crucified by some here!
