5000 fans going. Marti is genuinely amazed when he's told.

I am sure we'll give it a good go.

Never knowingly right.

He just gets better and better. Love that he's aware of fans doom ladened outlook and trying to change the mentality.

He's the best thing at our club.

I don't know of a single fan who wanted him sacked, we've not had a manager this popular since Warnock

I did think the club would sack him if we lost at Cardiff, the fan reaction in that Stoke game feels like a real turning point

Plenty on social media, was ridiculous considering the injuries and time for new players to adapt to The Championship, those fans have disappeared and are very unlikely to admit it now.

I would've been content for him to have got the boot - we were in a shocking run of form and bottom of the league. It feels like most of the clubs around us have launched their gaffers over past several weeks so I can't see it would have been a bolt from the blue.
Neil Harris took over Millwall in total disarray and plummeting down the table in February. We were more or less level with them then but Marti "had his feet under the table" by then and we were on the up. Harris immediately halted their slump and over the 35 games he was in charge until last month he amassed more points than Marti. I point this out purely to illustrate the ordinariness of Marti's record over a reasonable timescale instead of the last 2 weeks.
One thing Marti ballsed up massively was our preseason. The club was ill-prepared for the start of the season (clueless and all over the place). You cannot cite "new players" as an excuse - ALL EFL teams hugely overhaul their squads in the summer: it's something the manager has to contend with. Maybe he's learned his lesson? But, spunking the first 15 games up the wall has wrecked this season and there cannot be a repetition next season.
Marti is charismatic and personable. He clearly has a LOT of people eating out of his hand. Personally I'd rate his entire 15 months here as 6 out of 10 - okay but I guess I'm way short of the 11 out of 10 many feel he warrants.

Perhaps a tad harsh given how he resurrected us last season and seems to be doing so again this, so it'd be a 7/10 for me, but I'd be closer to this view than the uncritical veneration he gets from some on here that teeters on the weird at times. I agree he's still learning on the job, and when it's been bad (Swansea, Oxford first half etc. etc.), it's been absolutely horrible - worse even than the worst of Garethgate - in which the close comparsions between GA's and MC's horrendous starts this season and last are, or were, valid and concerning.

Currently his, and our, star is rising, however, as he seems to have really galvanised the squad, and long may it continue. As has been pointed out, he also deserves to take a decent dollop of the credit for the evolution of the likes of Morgan, Lloyd, and even the returning Chair, as well as the evidence of genuine patterns of play and cohesive passing football when we're on the front foot.

In sum, and assuming our injury crisis is finally abating, Marti can, and should, be judged on the second half of the season. If we're looking up and not down by the end of it, that'll do for me.

I don’t think you can say it’s been worse than the worst of Garethgate. I’d have to assume you have forgotten what happened with GA at Blackpool?

I think Oxford and Swansea were worse, as I said, but, as I also said, the overall trend is clearly upwards.

You think losing 3-0 at Swansea and beating Oxford 2 - 0 at home was worse than Blackpool away where we got smashed 6-1 πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

We lost 6-1 to Blackpool. We were lucky to get it. Blackpool were relegated and are currently 15th in League One.

Yes, I think one and a half of those performances were (a lot) worse, bad as the Blackpool game was. As I think Clive has also pointed out, the gulf between our best and our worst peformances under Marti has been greater than under GA, moreover, and that remains a concern for me.

I didn't say that at all.

I said having a vast gap between our best and worst performances has been a problem for a long time, talked about by Warburton and Holloway.

It wasn't the case when Ainsworth was here because there was no 'best' to compare our worst to. He only won five times and only one of those (Boro A) could be considered even halfway competent or deliberate.

There's a lot there to digest, Norris, and at first glance I agree with some of it, disagree with some of it, and will have to think about the rest.

But I will say this to stick up for you as you're getting downvotes, and also because I just plain agree: the tactical set-up in pre-season and at the start of the competitive season was a serious concern. A huge concern.

Did he have a balanced squad? No.
Was there always a reason for him playing an unbalanced team? Certainly up for discussion.

OK, so you pointed out that the gap has been historically very big, just not that it's been the worst under Marti (which in my view it has) - mea culpa! That last bit of opinion I'm happy to offer on my own behalf, therefore.

Of course you can cite new players as a reason considering where they were recruited from, and you havnt mentioned the chronic injury crisis at all . That is still going on and he has found a way to win .
Watching Ainsworths team was just resigned despair , Marti picked up that team and fanbase and had us in promotion form at the end of the season . I think he is an 8 out of 10 easily .

The 0-4 Blackburn at home for me remains the worst I have ever seen from a QPR team, lowest I've ever felt as a QPR fan that day

That was appalling, true, but even in that game we had one or two chances to score. The Swansea game (though I don't want to fetishise it for the sake of argument) we achieved the sqaure root of nothing.

I don't even think Swansea was the worst this season, we were dreadful first half but a lot better second. That Blackburn game was the culmination of a year of dreadful football and results, it was the first time since Ipswich at home in 2010 that I genuinely thought about stopping going to games as it was painful to watch
