New Year’s Frey delight for resurgent Rangers – Report 2nd Jan 2025 22:26
QPR continued their recent Championship recovery and rediscovered the finishing touch which eluded them at Vicarage Road, beating Watford 3-1 at the second time of asking on New Year’s Day at Loftus Road. 10

Bang on the money Clive. With the players at their disposal they should have wiped the floor with our lot. But Dunne and his merry men were having none of it. The desire and passion throughout the team drove us on to a fantastic win. Only one defeat in 10, quite remarkable.

We are not going to outplay many teams in this division, but if we maintain this level of commitment, we won’t need to.

Have to say though, that Chekvatedze looks some player. Would look better in a hooped shirt…..with the correct spelling on his back 😂

Agree, the Georgian was skilful and tenacious and evidently very strong seeing as he was carrying the rest of the Watford team.

Great stuff Clive .

How much of a relief as that 3rd goal ? I mean the last 20 mins was nail biting enough at 3-1. 2-1 would have been purgatory

Thank you very much, delicious.

Reads like you really enjoyed writing that one, possibly as much as watching it.

Such a contrast to the Swansea game, you really do wonder if some players didn’t get the right Xmas presents but kept the receipts and returned them.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Alternatively, they had too many presents or too much Christmas pudding?

If Watford came and concentrated on the football rather than there horrible niggly shithouseing . They may have got a more positive result.
They got what they deserved.

Great report as always. As well as tackling, grafting, kicking, shouting more - I think a big change has been a clinical edge and focus on being good in both boxes (and caring less about what happens between them). For far too long (since Warbs really) we’ve often shelled out that Watford performance, now we’re actually a tiny bit ruthless.

Maybe we really are becoming Preston of old

Great report, maybe just the hoops in me but I think we are on the way to producing a good team. It’s a journey and we could be going a bit quicker now than expected. It’s interesting on the goals scored stats as I would rather share the spoils than be reliant on one. Great report ( wanna say it again), Clive

Brilliant report as always Clive 😁😁

I shamefully find myself watching the clock as much as the game when we’re winning ! And that 3rd goal was perfect for my nerves !

Fox also derverves praise for me ( his performance at Swansea was perhaps understandable for someone who has been out for so long ) but his headed clearance just before halftime and willingness not to hide in our time of need ( I think he gets he’s 4/5th choice ) I think deserves a bit of recognition-

The Bill Werbeniuk steamer 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If I were Watford, I'd just give it to Chakvetadze.

Cleverley said afterwards they lacked leadership and experience.
He's got a midfield of Tom Ince and Sissoko, combined age of 108.
He's got five full internationals.

I'd want to know why my collection of 6ft 2ins monsters are such massive fannies.

I knew we were in Saturday when the goalkeeper pretended to die because Paul Smyth had dared to put a shoulder in on him. Paul Smyth!!

It was similar to when we beat them under Ainsworth, a few early meaty tackles and they did not fancy it one bit

Great report. I agree with your assessment that we are not playing that well, I think your tweet summed it up; we run, kick, tackle, head.
The team are now doing the basics, which is why I am not getting to excited.

But versus where we were in October, that's a decent step forward.

I think you’ve created a problem for yourself for 2025…… started the year raising the bar incredibly high with that report.

The Bill Werbunick line a stand out classic that had me grinning on the tube on my way to Hospital

Fair play Sir

It is brilliant the run of form we are on.
It’s also hugely annoying that I’m still looking over my shoulder as the gap to the bottom three just isn’t big enough for me. On another thread we’ve got people tipping Millwall and others to drop when these teams are actually above us or on almost exactly same points as us.
We’ve still got more injuries than an episode of MASH followed by Quincy MD and I remain concerned we’ll find a run of six defeats from somewhere!!!!

Nice we’ve gone early on CB cover but I’d like to see another striker through the door asap plus some wing back supplement ASAP

All eyes on Monday night now

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

It's fragile for sure. But it's a lot better.

Interesting/tough/scary month ahead with that Plymouth and Hull double header, both below us, both new managers, huge distance, Saturday/Tuesday.

A win Monday would be huge. Luton eight away defeats in a row...

Excellent report Clive. Paragraph three captures very much the way that me and my brother feel when we’re hanging on to a lead.
We finally agreed we could relax on ninety minutes as they were unlikely to score twice in the four minutes of extra time!

In theory all our January league matches are 'winnable' in that you look at them and think realistically we could do that. Obviously this is the Championship and anyone can beat anyone but I genuinely think we could get 15 points in January. Imagine the play-off fever!

Another masterpiece Clive to go with all the others.

I read the report in bed last night and burst into hysterics on the Bill Werbunick line. The wife said what are you laughing at so I told her.

"Who's Bill Werbunick and what's a S-bend she asked"

"Best you don't know" I replied

All eyes on Monday now - God I would love to do the treble on Luton. I remember all to well the running battles we had with them in the eighties.

Terrific report as always and good to see us actually play well in a 1230 kick off for a change. Can't make out Watford at all. They lost 3-0 at Luton yet won 6-2 at Sheffield Wednesday. Mind you I cannot work out Portsmouth either. Hopeless away but have won their last three home games 3-0, 4-1 and 4-0. Will Plymouth and Hull get the same new manager bounce as Oxford? Really difficult to predict who will go down so we cannot get complacent or drop the performance levels yet as one bad month could change the picture again.
