Gotta be done

FFS my club

GET SIR JAMES DUNNE SIGNED UP

It concerns me he can now talk to other clubs and he’d surely be in demand on current form.
I feel he’s one of the heartbeats of the place and a 2 + 1 deal surely has to be done.

If we were looking for someone to replace our top scorer and best defender it’d cost millions

Sort it out Rangers!!!!

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

So what you're saying is that Dunne has only started playing well because his contract is up? The new Matthew Rose!

A 'Sir' from Dundalk?
A Knight of the British Realm from Dundalk?

Ha Brian I thought the same, but as usual your reply had more deftness than mine would've haha

Still think we should sign Saito. Useful player to have in a squad and always gives us something on the left

really depends how much its for does it not. If it was say 3.5m euro would we sign him then. I like him but I'm not sure I'd want to pay in excess of 750k

There is no way the club will “break the bank” to keep him. It’s how we now operate and you’d have to say with Willock and Armstrong the club got it right. I assume Cook and Colback had hefty wage increases this season so the pot can’t be that high.
I’d love him to stay but at 27 he has to do the right thing financially for him and his family. He will have plenty of takers.

I read somewhere recently that Cook was on 30k a week. Surely we cannot afford that for anyone. I thought half that would be our ceiling

The obvious explanation is that he's not on that money. The club doesn't disclose salaries so any figures bandied around are likely to be fictitious.

Cook being injured and 33, am not sure, but others will know, does his contract go beyond this season ??

If it doesn't I feel we will allow Cook to go, ie reputed to be on the most money here by a distance.

I wasn't one that was constantly knocking Madsen and Celar and again I do not know their contract lengths but if we could ship out either or both either on long term loans or sales, then I personally would hope we offer Dunne to be one of our highest earners. And if either or both could be miraculously moved on then money for wages would be available. Unfortunately, after half a season, both have clearly not been a success. Some clever deals and hopefully promotions from youth continue for the build up of our future squads.

He plays two positions at the back very well and is an excellent aerial presence in defending our own penalty area and is excellent at set pieces and corners, either flicking on or attempts on goal. Good at reading the game and has linked up with Smyth well on the right too. So he contributes in many different ways. He has QPR in his blood and he always puts everything out there. If, anything this recent period where he has completely excelled, and given the sad loss of his father at this time, that's says everything about the man.

If Cook is not to be part of our future, I would put Jimmy in as Captain also.

Leads by example and shows true commitment. A throwback to years gone by. Obviously since halcyon days of 70s and 80s, players weren't earning much and they played for the love of the game and also for the badge on their shirt. Dunne has shown what playing for QPR means to him. And this really should already be "DUNNE and DUSTED" !!! Sorry !!!

I think it could well be anyhow and whenever the next fans forum is, Nourry and co will unveil this as this is how their PR machine works.

If the club can't tie Jimmy down to a decent length contract on much improved terms, then for me not only would that be a huge mistake, but if we saw Jimmy elsewhere in the Championship, then that would for me mean the club are sending out a very poor image about what this club is about and also would represent a very poor message to future players here that we are just a club as a temporary home for all.

I know also from all I have seen that he appreciates his position and is very aware that he is in a profession that he is rewarded handsomely and I have seen clips with him, when the players visit hospitals, children's homes etc and is a great ambassador for the club.

He is clearly beyond playing, the type of guy this club should have in future years to promote our great club.

This for me is clearly by far the most important deal that needs to be struck this window.

But if he goes elsewhere in the championship, I feel this club will have missed out big time and would be a dreadful mistake !!

If Jimmy leaves us to go to the likes of Oxford or Preston then maybe your point is valid but if he goes to the likes of Leeds, Burnley or Middlesbrough on much bigger wages than we could ever offer then there’s not much QPR can do.

I'd be surprised (if not astonished) if QPR are sleeping on this one as Dunne has been immense and is coming into his prime. However, it takes two to tango; Jimmy has to want it too and perhaps he feels he's ready for a new challenge. I hope he stays because, performances aside, he's exactly the kind of character we need around the place and will help provide Marti with solid foundations on which to build a successful team.

Discussion on this thread speaks well to the following Dunne has earned. I do wonder if Edwards' signing could be a prelude to Dunne & or Cook departing.

Chair had two years left at the start of this season. Not including the option. I'm pretty sure. I also thought it was just 4 years flat with no option.

I don't think so. I think it is a prelude to the fact that we've suffered injuries to Cook, JCS and Morrison twice and we know Jimmy is doing well at right back. I agree we absolutely have to get Jimmy on a new contract asap.

Never knowingly right.

I doubt it. His interview suggested he was only here to get game time. With Southampton nailed on for relegation he's probably hoping to be part of their promotion push next
season.

I took the signing of Edwards to be an indicator the club expect Cook and/or Morrison to be out for most of the rest of the season.

Jimmy said in a recent interview how much he loves it at QPR/West London so I hope we can get him to stay long term. Having good players serve us for a good 7/8/9/10 years is something we've not had for a long time now. Players generally seem to be around for 3 years at most before they leave. Its only the buggers who we don't want who seem to hang around for years!
