Tremendous young player, massive shame we'll be spending 5 months helping develop a probable starter next season for a divisional rival

Poll: Moses Odubajo - Stick or Twist?

Yes really.

So what would you do then. A number of key defenders out. You would probably complain if they did nothing. Or maybe we have 15 centre backs on the books to plan for this many jbgurjes, just in case

I'm still highly fcuked off about Morrison so swiftly following Cook, but under the circumstances seems like a good signing.

The guy could be class, I have no idea, but this team needs more Championship experience and game management nous, especially with Cook out. We should be looking to bring an experienced head, IMO. Another signing with no Champ experience doesn’t scream “learning our lesson”.

I'm inclined to agree however, if it's any consolation Edwards did spend the 2021-22 season in the Championship with Peterborough. Although the Posh were eventually relegated he won 4 club awards, including Player of the Season, a pretty impressive feat when you consider that he was only 18 at the time. In 2023-24 he was voted the EFL League One Player of the Season so it appears that the boy can play.

BBC reporting it.

They won't usually until it's done.

Get it right first time around. We go into another January transfer window scrambling to make loan deals to correct the cock ups in the summer.

Pretty damning of our summer transfer business that we've had to do this, but heh ho.
If its view to a permanent then great, but I can't see it.

As much as I criticised the summer recruitment for being unbalanced and lacking Championship experience, I feel that in this case the loan was necessary to cover the unfortunate injuries the squad sustained recently in central defence. If the club can get JCS back fit-and-firing QPR could potentially have a decent defensive unit with Edwards and JCS in the central positions and Dunne reverting to the role of Irish Cafu. The club deserves a bit of credit for reacting quickly and getting business done early in the transfer window.

No. This has come about through an injury list you can't plan for. Some defenders coming back from injury and not match fit and some just recently out injured. So if you know better, what would you have done in the summer. Saying getting it right the first time isn't actually an answer. If you know better, what actual things would you have done? Or is it just easier to criticise without actually suggesting an alternative?

To be fair I think what he's trying to say is that the club need to move away from the strategy of signing players with known fitness issues because availability is the best ability. JCS, Morrison and Fox are all injury prone. Dunne is largely being deployed at RB because we didn't sign a seasoned RB in the summer. All of the above meant that Marti was forced to overplay Cook who subsequently suffered an injury consistent with overload.

That all being said, I agree that the scale of the injuries sustained across the back line has been exceptional and unprecedented. Even taking into account the risk of signing players with fitness concerns, the law of averages suggests that you should be able to consistently field 2 bona-fide central defenders from that list. Unfortunately, the facts say otherwise and the club has been forced to dip into the loan market to recruit defensive cover.

Whilst it's only right to raise concerns about previous recruitment strategy, credit must be given to the club for acting swiftly in this window and recruiting what appears on paper at least to be a capable defender. However, lessons need to be learned for future transfer dealings.

On paper a smart loan.
Seems to be a ball playing defender, also seems to play it from the left to the right diag, which will be useful for the Dunne flick on or playing Smyth in.

Either way a few balls like that and the oppo defence is forced to drop deeper, allowing Morgan to exploit the gaps in between.

Where is the loan LB that we really need. Perhaps Larkeche is on the way back. I notice it was Larks, Morrison and Dembele in the video so, they were in getting fit on New Years Day. Good to see.

zzzzzzzzzz
