Smyth. on 21:13 - Dec 21 by stainrods_elbow | Made a goal, hit the bar, and nearly (probably should have) scored another. Won us a raft of free kicks. Never stopped. If that infuriates you, you make me look like the friggin' Buddha! |
Running the ball off the pitch due to lack of control is infuriating, especially when chasing a winner.

Smyth. on 12:37 - Dec 22 with 350 views | Pdog | In an age of the inverted wide forward whose no.1 & 2 priority is cut inside and shoot, its refreshing to see an old-skool type player just get his head down and charge down the line. Or, as Nourry may put it, 'strong diversity of the player portfolio.'. Sometimes straight out of play, sometimes hitting the first man but often he's a great outlet on the counter and constant menace to the opposition, giving his all every time. And when he did cut inside onto his left foot, that piledriver that hit the bar was something else. Who knew? Well played Smyth. [Post edited 22 Dec 13:57]

Smyth. on 13:58 - Dec 22 with 264 views | dmm | I hold my hand up as one of Smyth's detractors. We all know what his weaknesses are but, if the last few games are anything to go by, he's beginning to improve his final ball. He's a great character, a willing runner and a very useful weapon against most defences at this level. Once Dembele returns he'll see fewer starts but will always be given a place on the bench and more often than not get minutes.
Smyth. on 14:11 - Dec 22 with 224 views | kensalriser | No doubt he's been a frustrating player, but I just checked his stats and he's up to 65 Champ appearances since he returned, so he's now in that zone where the playing experience is really starting to benefit his game. He and Kolli were causing Preston a lot of problems with their pace, movement and direct play. I was a little surprised Kolli went off when he did, but I guess a combination of his having been ill and needing to get minutes in for Frey.

Smyth. on 14:13 - Dec 22 with 219 views | CiderwithRsie | A pleasing side to all this is that when he left us for Orient I felt that he was yet another apparently bright spark who hadn't made it. There's too bloody many of them, they get a few sub appearances and look bright, maybe get a goal, then disappoint when they get starts. They then go through the "needs a loan" period before hitting "League 1 at best, mate, get rid". So was quite pleased to see him get a second chance and delighted to see the improvement he's made this season. Interesting that simultaneously Kolli has so rapidly progressed from the jury being out on whether he's even a Championship player at all, to being focus of the attack. The two of them seem to work well together. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Smyth. on 14:30 - Dec 22 with 186 views | CLAREMAN1995 | There is 1 poster on this thread that has been unrelenting all season with his attacks on Smyth like he offended him personally and its way OTT. Now PS is not only one of the first names on the starting 11 (very durable player despite all the knocks ) he is starting to dominate and make way better choices in the danger areas. Cutting inside to his left and shooting used to mean danger to fans in the top row of the stand but he nearly scored a stunner yesterday and had another 1 close one last game Also he was right there to hammer home that rebound which would have been the winner except for the keeper and goaline tech denied us. He has some engine fair play to him and its vital he stays injury free
Smyth. on 15:53 - Dec 22 with 92 views | LazyFan | It's clear he's being coached by Marti and the other coaches. A noticeable difference is that once he uses his pace and dribbling skills to go past a player, instead of just putting in a cross, he now looks up to do the cutback. This only works if the other QPR players are moving into position to receive the cutback. Which they are, as it also means they have been coached when Smyth gets into that position to do this. Otherwise, Smyth has no one to cut back, too. Another tactical move we are using is the cross from the left to the far post for a tap in. Chair did this in the second half and the oppo defender just got enough of head on it to divert it away from Smyth who was about to use his pace to tap it in (a type of goal he has scored before even Marti arrived). Then, soon after, the Chair did it again for Dunne (what's he doing there, must be coached) to nod the winner. These two tactics we shall in my biased view see again from the team as they are working. Another one to watch for is corners. If you see Dunne or the corner taker rubbing their head from back to front with a hand, this is a signal that the ball will go to the near post. I have not worked out what they have as the signal for the far post, if they have one. But, I have seen Andersen, Paal and Chair all do this near post signal and seen Dunne do it in the box too. They are being coached constantly, make no mistake.
