You can no longer short cut through the Wood Lane Estate (Who knew it was called that?) going from or back to the White City Tube station from Loftus Road. It's been gated off for residents use only. Can't say I blame them, but I do wonder, what gave?

Done that route more times than I care to remember. It's now a thing of the past and a slight amendment to the match day routine.

What gave? Two words, one name. Bryn Gunn

I used to go that way occasionally, but it’s such a bottleneck after the games that I haven’t been that way in a while.Something to do with idiots having a crafty slash while going that way and abusing the residents who pull them up about it.

Indeed, truly the end of an era - been cutting through there from the tube station for decades - c. 1985? Or from whenever those places were built.

I did feel sorry for the residents. One game last season, some muppet was urinating in a corner down there and one of the local women came out and gave him a well deserved ear bashing and told him to go and p**s against his own front door. Quite rightly sent him packing - not nice on any level but particularly when there's kids who play out there.

It was a location in Auf wiedersen pet when someone was making a phone call from there.I can’t remember if it was series 1 or 2 though.
It was when Neville and Dennis bail out McGowan in series 1,episode 9.
Loftus road was used when Oz is supposed to be driven home to Newcastle after getting drunk with the Sunderland fans in an earlier episode.

Used to be able to cut straight through that bit of green in there before they put the fence up.

Haven't gone that route for years, they should have warned us so I could walk that route one last time for the memories....

Will check that out- a bit of Rangers Archaeology. Love Auf Wiedersehen Pet too. Remember being glued to the first series as a 15 year old c. 1983. Also noticed today that the Beeb have the Boys From the Blackstuff series from 1982 up on iplayer.

It is exactly what most of us would want if we were living there. Football fans, en masse, do not always appreciate what other people think of them. Some do, but do not care. It will be those who triggered the gating-off.

Fair enough I think. I've walked that cut through countless times but often thought it must be a nightmare for the residents on match day.

There's actually a slightly quicker cut through from White City station. Wood Crescent, through Hammersmith Park then Batman close to the stadium. The park is closed after dark though.

Gimme a wave next time you cut through Batman…I'll be the bloke sitting on the perimeter wall with a flask of whisky.

Yeah, after the Norwich game you could get into the park but not out onto the road by television studios. You'd think that they could add some lighting and keep it open and hour or so later on match days to help the crowds disperse.

Yeah, can’t blame the residents and all that. But. Why aren’t they at the bleeding game themselves? Eh! Live near the ground, go to the ground. Should be a bloody law.

I lived there when it was newly built from 1980 - 1985. Never felt that fans cutting through was a problem then, although I am biased and attended all the matches myself. Very convenient as I'd get home in time for the classified results if I left the ground on the final whistle.

Yes be going that way all the time I been going to the Mecca since 1980.

I can't believe how incompetent the police / council have been over the years as it must be a total pain in the wotsit for the residents there and can't believe it's taken 40 years to be kind to their residents there and especially it's not an essential shortcut. Going on the main road is wide open and easily can accommodate all the fans going that way and there is hardly any difference in time to get to the ground by either route

Yes have seen residents having a go at people having a pee by the bins there too.

Unbelievable that it's taken the powers that be over 40 years to sort this simple problem out.

I got no problems with it at all. About time I would say !!!

Another cut through was where Loftus Rd meets Batman. At one time the whole road was open until some peabrain at the council decided the barrier should be down post-match. I'm amazed no one's been seriously injured clambering over the barrier - you have fans from the Loft heading north and fans from SA Rd heading south.

That is ridiculous and not at all safe.

The cut through - used a couple of times, always thought it was a right bollox for the residents, so gave it a miss. Not a problem as I turned right out of the station, then left at the White City Stadium hundreds of times before they built the estate.
