Villa have wealthy owner who have bought well and an experienced top flight manager.

Us losing to Wolves without a shot on target is the lowest of the low.
Russell Martin’s style of play may work in the this league but not with the majority of the players being Championship standard.

It needs 8 new £30m + players or a change of manager to survive in this league.

We will be on 4 points when you’re tucking into your turkey on baby b’jesus day.

I agree with most of what you say, but I dont think a team needs 8 £30m players to survive, it needs to be well drilled and organised and have bought 3 or 4 key players.

If you want to do better than 4th from bottom, then yes you need to have 8 £30 million players and then you can compete for the 8th-10th spot, but what do you get for that , if lucky Europa Conference League, if not you spend a lot of money to finish mid table and then eventually you buy £30 m players who are not very good and like us and many clubs before you end up relegated.

The only way forward is for the so called big 7 to depart the Premier League for a European super league.

I don’t think we have 3 or 4 key players.

Ramsdale would probably be the only player courted by other PL sides.
KWP seems to have gone to shit.
Doesn’t help when being played Left Back with no left foot.
He’ll be off on a free the end of the season.

I had high hopes for Downes but the odd half decent game here and there.
THB and Dibling would probably be picked up in the hope of the developing well.

A few of them maybe signed as squad players when we get relegated but that’s about it.

And the 2 loan signings!
Christ what a fúck up that was.
Cornet who had a half decent season for Burnley ages ago and Ugochukwu.
He’s no better than Shea Charles and that’s saying something.
We wasted those two spots f’sure.

How Martin is still in a job is baffling.
11 games and 4 points.
At any other club he’d of been gone last Monday after the Wolves debacle.
Thanks for getting us promoted but it’s not working.
We’ll pay you until your contract runs out or you get another Championship gig.
Off you pop on holibobs somewhere warm with Lucy.

David Moyes welcome x

The problem with taking a yo-yo approach comes if you get relegated, then don’t come straight back up. All your best players will be up and away, and the whole club becomes weaker, and I don’t put much faith in Ankerson and co to spot the emerging talent that we would need to get back.1 decadent player in 6 or 7 acquisitions isn’t going to cut it, apart from trading.

The Sunderland experience has been dire from a football perspective, continually changing owners, never quite good enough. They made the playoffs a couple of seasons ago, but their football was agricultural, with Clarke being the only half decent quality player, and he isn’t exactly shining in the PL now.

That is what the future holds for us under the current setup.

And Nick just to clarify,
We need 8 £30m + players to play the Russell Martin way.
Possession football.
Aribo, Downes and Smallbone ain’t the answer.

If we played ‘normally’ then maybe we’d of had/have a chance of staying up with these players.
Definitely need a Centre Forward though.
Archer is useless with his back to goal.

I can’t see us getting a point anytime soon playing this way with these players.

Depressing ain’t it.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

I wouldn't say we need to spend that much.

Maybe a few 30m players would help but for a club like ours it's about clever/lucky recruitment imo.

Clearly our recruitment has been pretty woeful apart from the odd success and we were too loyal to some of the (at best) Championship standard performers.

I'm as fed up as everyone else at our terrible start and likely relegation.

But a part of me wants to believe a long term plan and system of play which I personally don't mind when it works over season by season grit it out struggle for survival.

Maybe the owners and manager have tried to run before they can walk at this level and we should have been more pragmatic this season to survive first and foremost and then we could have attracted better quality players to build the team to suit the club and managers vision..ie Brightons way.

Agree with what you say about the big clubs clearing off and totally admit, I was one of those calling for them to go when they tried to create their new play thing / Superleague competition. Whilst we know that they wanted that, and to remain members of the PL I did, and still do want them to clear off.

The sad fact is though would be that even if they did go we would have say 10 years of fun until the next batch of clubs become regular winners of a newly formed Domestic League. And in true Saints fashion, i still doubt it would be us near the top echelons.

Quote -

“ In Sunderland’s last season in the Premier League, we won just six games. We were stuck with crap, overpaid players many of which dragged us down “

End Quote.

Lucky buggers seeing six wins!!

I don’t believe we have ‘crap’ players, but the majority are not of PL quality. That said, with a bit of decent coaching and ‘game management’ (fcuk me I sound a right Noddy now), we could be doing better than the paltry four points we have mainly thanks to tactics.

To attract better quality players you need to pay the money.

Gambling on £15m players just hasn’t paid off.

That's the key point. To play the RM way, or Pep lite, you need players who are technically good enough to pass it round comfortably at the back and play a killer pass through a packed defence to create chances. You need seriously good players and we will never be able to afford a team full. Through our history we normally have 1 or 2 top level players at any one time, not 8.

So, it shouldn't take a feckin genius to work out that there is no future for us in playing Pep lite - and so no future in having RM as manager of SFC. Why can certain people not understand this???

It's so clear that you have to wonder what on earth SR/RM are thinking. This is all about really pathetic team & business management (in it's broadest sense). I think part of the problem lies in relying on a charlatan for football guidance. Fans and the majority shareholders are basically being ripped off by a charlatan (at best!).

Business strategy is all about both making choices but also executing on them and I cannot understand why our owners/board/management have been so incapable to recognise this.

I now feel totally disconnected from the club I have loved for nearly 60 years, so given all of this, I am disinclined to give Saints any more of my money until at least RM and hopefully SR are gone.

With Wuss at the helm it doesn’t matter who comes in
As Someone points out KWP looks half the player he was because he is played out of position
Sugawara had a couple of poor games yet is now dropped
Yet manning and Stephen’s can play every week
The manager is a one trick pony
He needs moving on and fook knows what those in charge are waiting for!!!
