Parents please please can you teach your children that when we are losing and need to try and score, the act of NOT giving the ball back to the keeper or other team works against us, is not clever and demonstrates either some idiotic upbringing by the parent (you!!) whereby the kids think its what their parents (you) want them to do OR the kid just doesn't get it and should not be at the game.

I openly admit that each time I pay money to see the team and we are losing and I see your child do this I will call him (less frequently her and hopefully never 'they') AN IDIOT ! and I believe it will catch on!

Be an educating parent and don't let your child grow up to be an imbecile! Or at least give them a placard so we know in advance and can take the ball off them, something like this will do

I think you'll find that none of those imbecile parents are members of this illustrious forum.

Banning of "(insert player name) Give me your shirt" placards will also help.

Cringeworthy.

I think some of the players are misreading the signs and cannot see the 'r'!!
That might be the problem!

I saw that kid throw the ball in the wrong direction, and given how young he was the reaction by a couple of over 50 year olds towards him was frankly embarrassing. It's only a game, he's only a kid and not your kid at that. Wasn't going to make any difference either. We were all frustrated with the game, but taking it out on our own kids makes no sense.

It was a bit frustrating against Sunderland when we were pushing for the win. Two kids in the lower loft held on to the ball and were having a Barney over it.

Parents, would also recommend teaching your kids not to grow up and be the kind of person that goes around calling young kids "idiots", and also please encourage them that they absolutely should come to the games, even if their behavior at a young age isn't approved of by fully grown men posting on message boards.

I get that it's frustrating and it doesn't help the cause. And I don't attend the games anymore so perhaps you think that means I don't have the right to comment. But they are KIDS. And I can't believe you are actually saying that we should be encouraging young future Rs not to go to the game unless they follow a set of protocols that they may not understand.

If we have now reached the point where the reason we are losing games is because a couple of young fans don't quickly return the ball to the opposition keeper then we really have hit rock bottom.

I need to clarify if this advice, in the unlikely event we should find ourselves leading a game still remain valid?

Pedantry I know but it 'could' happen.

Hasn't it always been the way that if kids get a ball in the crowd they are going to try and keep it, I've seen grown adults act far worse when the ball comes to them

They have balls dotted all round the pitch so should make no difference

One lad wouldn't give the ball to Andy Cole when he wanted to take a corner in front of the loft.
The lad thought It was funny, Andy Cole didnt and If my memory serves me well Andy Cole went on to score a couple of goals In yet another home defeat.
Oh how we all laughed on the way home down the M4 In the car.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Yes, but this post is to the parents of said kid and, just for the record, there were lots of others shouting "Give the f..king ball back!!" so at least " idiot" may prompt him to say 'dad, I did this and they called me an idiot'
He could have been called worse and it just shows that, whereas over 50's were brought up to respect other people's beongings and if something that wasn't yours came your way, you had respect and decency to hand it back, today's lack of manners, thought and parental contol breeds idiots!

If someone else had done the same (not a kid) he would have been called far far worse!

Its all a case of being taught manners, respect and decency and kids (or older) hanging onto the ball is stupid and idiots should be called idiots when they are-or perhaps we should let them grow up without respecting other people's property??

There is a lot riding on the game and people are there to enjoy it, not to let kids or older think they are being smart when they are not...hence the request to the parents...teach your kids to respect others and also call them out when they don't!

What manners? Nobody said you shouldn't teach kids manners. You're not even talking about whether an action is right or wrong. You're talking about teaching them that the same action (holding onto the ball) is right in some circumstances but wrong in others.

I don't know if you have kids and if so how old they are. I have a 6 year old. At that age they are learning the concept of right and wrong and things which are good and bad to do, but nuance isnt exactly a strong suit.

Trying to convey that holding onto the ball from the opposition keeper is:
Good, but only when we're winning
Bad, but only when we're losing
Maybe good or bad if we're drawing, depending on the strength of the opposition, and whether we think a point would be a good result.

It's just not possible to teach a 6 year old that. And expecting them to have to stay home as a result is nuts.

Now I have no idea how old these kids were, if they're teenagers then they are different and should be capable of processing that.
