Spencer settles Pompey riot on the pitch – History 19:33 - Oct 17 with 3174 views | Northernr | Cheers for all the help with an extensive list of connections... Spencer settles Pompey riot on the pitch – History 17th Oct 2024 19:28With Portsmouth back in town for a first league meeting in more than ten years this Saturday, we’re looking back to another long overdue meeting from 1997 when absence most definitely had not created any great fondness between the two sets of supporters. 2
Spencer settles Pompey riot on the pitch – History on 21:33 - Oct 17 with 2971 views | queensparker | One of the unforgettable games for this me, felt like the last gasp of old school rucks in the ground. For some reason there was a dead zone of empty seats between Q Block and the middle of Ellerslie Road for the game, like the whole block (were they doing up the ground or something?), so me and my young mates went and sat there with a rare sense of space and leg room. This became the no mans land between Pompey's invasion of the home end and our lot not having any of it. Much as I'd like to say I went windmilling in with the lads, I shat it and ran on the pitch along with a fair few others. [Post edited 17 Oct 23:49]

I was standing at the back of the Q Block with my dad and suddenly all these guys were piling through the fence. I was 12 and bloody terrified haha.

Spencer settles Pompey riot on the pitch – History on 08:21 - Oct 18 with 2557 views | thehat | Remember it well a bunch of Pompey fans got into the upper tier of the Loft via Ellerslie Road and started fighting anyone they could get their hands on it turned out they were on a stag do which had started early in London. A group of about 30 of us managed to hold them at bay before they could get to far round the stand and after what seemed an eternity the police and stewards finally managed to get them back into the Ellerslie Road Stand. I got clumped a couple of times but fair play to everyone who stood our ground and stopped them but it was a scary situation that could of got a lot worse.

Spencer settles Pompey riot on the pitch – History on 11:16 - Oct 18 with 2228 views | westlondonisRs1882 | You could say that it was “thanks “to that event, that the R Block is where our most vociferous supporters gather. Before this , nobody really sat there, outside of sell outs because of its poor position. The Portsmouth fans were able to congregate there because there was space. After this vociferous supporters gathered there to make sure that something like that could never happen again. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yeah I was planning to go to the game but then couldn't make it - saw on telly what had gone on! Nice Paul Murray goal I seem to recall.

Spencer settles Pompey riot on the pitch – History on 12:03 - Oct 18 with 2074 views | SydneyRs | I was in the lower loft not far from where it all kicked off in the corner. There were two Portsmouth fans sat behind us. They didn't cause any trouble but were kicked out after everyone turned on them following the fighting. There was definitely some extra passion in celebrating the winner after what went on. Looking at the date it was less than two weeks after I returned from a long stint of backpacking. The Wolves game mentioned also rings plenty of bells. We were murdering them early doors before screwing it up in typical style. [Post edited 18 Oct 12:19]

Spencer settles Pompey riot on the pitch – History on 11:07 - Oct 18 by BrianMcCarthy | What's all wrong here is that he's smoking a fag, Hilda Ogden-style while doing his high-knees warm-up. What's he warming up for? Is he a sub for Pompey? And, if so, why's he smoking? |
Looks like the kind of lad who's always got a grout on the go no matter the occasion - fighting, fùcking, showering - fag.

I never knew that and always assumed it was because it was the only part of the ground not visible from the police control room. Please tell me that box in the corner with the smoked glass windows is the police control room and not something as prosiac as the Matthew Rose Memorial Treatment Room.

Yeah that Wolves game we were superb first half, they couldn't lay a glove on us.

That team should have been play offs minimum. And perhaps the way that Wolves game played out was a microcosm of why it wasn't.

Losing Gallen to injury didn't help. But yeah there was a soft underbelly to that team which only got worse. No great options as keeper, the likes of Ready and Morrow at CB, no effective replacement for Barker.

Indeed. I remember the "you're not very good" chant ringing around the home sections when we were dominant, before it all fell apart. That night I was in upper Loft. I had purchased a Le Coq Sportif QPR t shirt which was dark blue but the arms were a very Wolves like gold colour. Got quite a few unfriendly looks on arrival before people realised it was actually a QPR garment.
