Reported on Beeb the FA has held talks with him over the second hardest job in footy after Marti's.

Doesn't he have a record of falling out with everyone?

Lets face it, the pool of English coaches is severely lacking. Maybe some have been paid too much as players, they don't need the ball ache of coaching as a second career. We've all laughed at Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney's failures. Then you got Eddie Howe, who'd have probably been sacked at Newcastle by now if it wasn't for the FFP and cap on their spending. Graham Potter had an absolute disaster at Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel on an 18 month contract, reasonable decision, maybe just to shut up all the supporters who'd been panning Southgate since 2021's failure to beat Italy. TT will have a crack at the World Cup in North America and the FA are rolling the dice, so what?

Lets not pile in on the negatives and what might happen if the fans start singing dumb songs. Yes it needs to stop but sadly, your'e going to get drunken idiots in all walks of life. At least England fans have appeared to have moved on from the racist sh*t like booing black players which is more than can be said for Spain and various other European countries. And perhaps Ireland and Scotland should look closer to home too with them banging on about the anti English rhetoric which appears to dominate their whole outlook on life.

The most embarrassing England song ever.Hopefully it will be binned permanently.Even worse when some idiots start singing it at the cricket.
Maybe we’ll get an Irish assistant and bin that no surrender garbage too?

Antony Barry is the new assistant manager. He must have a bit of the ould sod in him. ?
I’ll claim him anyway 😉

He's not Irish, though you're right that he has an Irish name on him - West Cork, I reckon!!! - but he used to be Assistant manager of Ireland before Martinez took him with him as assistant for Belgium and Portugal.

I've not got a problem with the manager being foreign, but it's pretty embarrassing to build a massive training complex, introduce 'England DNA' and when the top job comes up not be able to find a homegrown manager to step up.

I'm not sure I buy this 'proven winner' schtick either. If Rashford's penalty goes 3 inches to the right in 2021 we win the Euros and Southgate becomes a 'winner'.
International football is so much about good vibes and being solid. I just don't know if Tuchel actually brings that

And a large slice of luck.

Well St George's seems to have delivered on the calibre of players we have - but probably need another ten years to have an English manager with the right capabilities.

Took the Jamaica job a few months back.

I heard Steve Cooper had been ousted and that Mt Brush -quite rightly-was now the manager of the Foxes.

Totally random of me, but with a German and a Scouser on the bench, GSTK might not get the good throat wobble 'The Sun' expects.

The key takeaway is that the deal was agreed over a week ago so Carsley took one for the team and threw out the FIFA weirdo’s ‘cooking’ setup against Greece to show it doesn’t work.

Massive help to Tuchel who won’t have the same calls to shoehorn everyone in, at least until sometime around Easter.

One joy has been how Sky and the press were going mad yesterday and today with how quickly this happened, in reaction to the Greece defeat, turns out he signed up for the job on the 8th october and they just delayed the announcement so all this breaking news bollocks shown for what it is

I've no problem England appointing a foreign manager and not giving it to an English person the same as R's did. Don't hear any clamour about us not appointing an English manager.

Yes, and perhaps Carsley deserves a little bit more sympathy for tying himself up in knots last week when he was being put on the spot with questions about his interest in the job. He would have already known done this deal had been done.

Agree with this. Carsley was probably told "sorry old chap but you're not getting the job. We've appointed this German cove but you can't tell the media that. Just keep it vague, say nothing that might make us look bad and then fck off quietly".

absolutely, he obviously knew what was happening, is laughable how none of the press had a clue what was going on, doesn't reflect well on them at all

Indeed, a cynic might suggest that them having meltdowns over appointing the best candidate available is a rather convenient cover up of the fact that none of the ‘brilliantly sourced’ journos had a clue Tuchel had agreed a deal more than a week ago…

Haha yes I’m sure Carsley was told by the FA to pick a team and formation that a 5 year old would choose and throw the game just to show it doesn’t work. Honestly 🤣

Given leaks to the press these days and the usual state of the FA, it's actually quite impressive they kept it under the wraps till the specified time to make the announcement.

And it starts. Embarrassing question from a reporter asking him if he'll sing the national anthem.

I don't recall Sven or Capello ever singing it, plus quite a few players over the years. Gascoigne used to stick his tongue out when the camera past him, and I don't recall anyone giving a shite.

Also just checked the anthem played before the 66 world cup final. No footage of the players, but none of the dignitaries in the royal box seemed to sing it.

As long as he doesn't stand there booing it, I couldn't care less
