Are we just preparing for the Championship? 13:49 - Aug 28 with 2218 views | Ifonly | I think we probably are. I'm sure SR hope we'll survive, but they are preparing in case we're relegated, unlike last time we were in the PL. So, it could be said that they are learning something(?) This means that rather than spending say £30m on one player, they want to spend £15 on two, because the £15m players will still be around next year, whereas the £30m player's wages would be too high to carry in the Championship, and they will have a release clause so that if we go down, they can wave goodbye. At least this strategy should give us a good chance of bouncing back from the Championship again next season. We'll then have another crack at the PL in 2 years time without the burden of previous PSR losses hanging over us as they do now. So you can see some logic in it. But this gives us lots of problems, primarily a lack of real quality in the side. I think potential relegation will also complicate other transfers we need. For example, Ramsdale we probably want as a loan with option/requirement to buy if we stay up. But Arsenal are probably looking at it and thinking that we'll probably go down, so they'll just get Ramsdale back with 1 year less on his contract, which they won't want. That might mean we won't get him unless we end up paying a serious loan fee. Hopefully we're now their only option, just as he seems to be our only option.

I think if he signs as a loan with any permanent move only happening if we survive, then the answer is probably "yes". As I said, I'm sure they hope we survive, but a lot of what has happened looks as if they have more than an eye on relegation.

Are we just preparing for the Championship? on 16:33 - Aug 28 with 1993 views | saints__fan__73 | Not one player we've signed to a permie deal will be demanding a move if/when we go down. That's a good indication of the level of players we've signed. Promotion money has been mostly taken by paying the bills of W ankerson's £160m spending spree to get us relegated.

Proper fans wouldn't wish us to sink to the Championship, they would rather SR step up to the plate and develop Saints into a Premiership club.

Disagree, you ask most of our ardent supporters, did they enjoy our season in the Championship & they would say yes it was great to see us winning more than we lost. We are out of our depth in Premier lge until such time as we get new owners & more investment then we have to accept where where we are & continue to support our team & hope for the best.

Based on the last 3 or 4 seasons you are right, loved it last season, however loved it even more in 2014-17 or whenever it was and we were winning at the top of the tree and playing in Europe, and actually received plaudits for the way we were playing and how the club were being run etc. Trouble was we lost our way, had the team cherry picked (inc the manager), and look where we are now If only SR could see that and put their money where their mouth is instead of treating us as a feeder club for the Turkish league | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Are we just preparing for the Championship? on 20:20 - Aug 28 with 1649 views | areasix | This is a measured way of trying and survive in the prem without mortgaging the club and then build quality each year back into the club like Bournemouth , Brentford and Brighton have done. Being a medium club in the prem we will never hold our star players but we must start somewhere and by signing Ramsdale and hopefully a couple of unknown signings that can step up we have a start. With Everton and Leicester in trouble this year we need another club to be worse than us to survive!
