Gaffer on tonight's win 23:23 - Aug 13 with 2541 viewsbosh67

Just to remind some doubters that we won tonight. First time in this comp for 3 years. Marti is very honest about where we are and what he expects.

Never knowingly right.

Measured. Reading between the lines it sounds like the players know full well that the second half was a shambles and have been hard on themselves, what with him saying he had to remind them we won and went through.

Of course you take the win and it's great to be in the draw for the next round.

I'm sure everyone who has seen the last 5 "performances" in the UK still has huge concerns and these are amplified by that performance with the win not really sprinkling glitter on it.
We have no pace bar Smyth
We look physically weak in key areas (new lads might be quick but they look a bit frail !!!)
We cannot dominate in the final third
Centre Mid looks a big issue - people are walking through us as per Blackburn at home last season. I actually thought Varanne was woeful this evening and as for Sammy Field... Holy shite what was that!!!
Andrerson is a spent force. In some respects it's sad to see a player who was clearly class, and in many respects still is, but to be miles off the pace of a game.
Celar...... mmmmmmmmm... lets give him time shall we?

What I did like was Jake Cole bar one aberration and I continue to be impressed with Alfie Lloyd who will be a player next season once he gets 20 or so games under his belt at "mens level".
Smyth has upped it a bit, signs of squad pressure which is good.
I'm also impressed with Frey's workrate

At the moment though I'd scratch the play off ambitions but who knows come mid September with a couple of other new faces and they all start to click into gear.

One thing is for sure -- Marti remains a class act

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I think any sane supporter would settle for comfortable mid table and a team that has an identity and plays entertaining football but that can also dig in. I don't know if the FFP can take it but a Hayden back in would stabilise centre mid. All the new players and those that came in last season need more time.

Never knowingly right.

Wow the quality of posts is way up tonight between this from Lblock and Hunterhoop the amount of great info and details is superb . Lack of pace and fitness is very alarming plus the usual elephant in room lack of goals a huge worry .
Not sure why these players are not in better shape seeing as there was no International football for them but they have earned their downtime surviving the stress and wear and tear of surviving relegation .
A nice score draw at SU would calm the waters a bit I feel

Attacking central midfield is a problem, personally always felt Chair should convert to that role, rather than driving out left. The two new signings will no doubt speed up our attacks as they look pretty pacy.

Jake Cole was playing for Gloucester City last time I looked.

Poll: How many points will we take from our next 3 games (S'land H, M'bro H, Leeds A)?
