Middlesbrough v Swansea City : Match day thread (Updated Thurs) on 14:33 - Aug 10 with 2244 views | Whiterockin | I thought we were poor the first half but much improved the second half and the better team, just lacking that bit of quality. First game of the season away to one of teams expecting to be near the top and we lose 1-0 and it's a penalty. Let's keep it real.

Agree Keith we are desperate for good central defender an attacking midfielder and 2 more forwards at the least

They had chances to put us to sleep and didn’t take them. We have enough ability I think. They are just organised and deployed badly

That's the main thing Probably be us next week going on our showing today, Williams has learnt very little from last season it seems, we still haven't got any creativity in the middle of the park and we got Grimes and Fulton together again, middle of the park needed a massive shape up and Watson, Williams or Coleman have done the square root of f'all about it. On another note, how many times did we leave ourselves short at the back when we attacked, we must have got away with it at least 3 times, Ronald saved us with his pace in injury time, any side watching that will see that and just draw us in and break quicker and punish us, naive at best and massively stupid at worse.

Williams has talked the talk biging up Grimes Fulton and Naughton. I expected a 2-1 defeat or a narrow defeat and that is what happened. Williams inspires me but not the players. If is is another mid table than at least develop young talent.

You are far to easily pleased, Boro could/should have won by 2 or 3 clear goals.

And we could have equalised near the end. Championship matches are often decided by fine margins.
Middlesbrough v Swansea City : Match day thread (Updated Thurs) on 15:08 - Aug 10 with 1801 views | RichardO | Brought the new Centre Forward on and didn't use him? No balls into feet. We don't support the man in the box, we overload the wings and do not play down the middle of the park because the same tactics being used with our most creative midfielder is sitting between the two centrehalves leaving us without good movement in the middle and surpressed movement down the wings. We need to move their defenders around in the middle of their defence we are not doing it.We are known as a passing team but we are not prepared to pass into the box? Yet again two yard passes to Grimes that just slowed the flow of the ball down.We won't let Grimes be the last man defending at our attacking counters because he hasn't got the pace, why are we relying on him as our defensive midfielder? At the end of the day we could have got something out of that game but could have lost by more. When defending we need to be tight in defence and the midfield compact tucking wingers in and making sure our fullbacks are tight to the men instead of letting them haves space to turn and run at them as Tymon did allowing himself to be pushed back into the box. Glad I missed the first 20 or so minutes all over the shop by all accounts. And lastly. Eom off with a hamstring injury trying to make something out of nothing. Ended up on too long given his work rate one for the injury list.

Liam is a " true Jack" but so is "Onehunglow" . Today is all about caring. They both care and that is what is important these days.

I think we have enough ability but we really need to get our defensive set up right you cannot leave your CH both pushing up as the pitch get condensed without proper cover it is ludicrous [Post edited 10 Aug 15:18]

Middlesbrough v Swansea City : Match day thread (Updated Thurs) on 15:42 - Aug 10 with 1536 views | onehunglow | We are chasing the game just one goal down with three mins left We then continue to stroke the ball, ,backwards, And captain the centre of it It’s a measure of how we’ve been conditioned to accept this utter dross as football. Inexcusable shite It doesn’t have to be like this

Swansea city over the Championship are specialist in 1-0, 2-1 narrow away defeats with a series of drab stale performances and disappointing first half performances with no threat on goal, with a little pick up in the second half. The stats are high possession low shots on or off target. This is not what Williams promised in his press conferences. He said Swansea would impose themselves but in reality he picked a "holding team". Only attacking when there was not other option.

All ifs and buts.......we lost by a penalty......otherwise the score might have been nil nil and apoint away from home is never bad. Yes lots of should have could have but despite looking dangerous Boro only scored one goal.... We on other hand despite having the possesion did .little ...hope this will change as our new striker settles in. Still 45 games to go. Rather lose this and get something from the next two home games [Post edited 10 Aug 15:45]

And obvious too. All opposition have to do is sit back with two banks of four and let us strike it sideways and backwards . They will not put them under pressure Tymon and Ronald got in each others way so often it was pitiful . Just shocking coaching and conditioning of players

Middlesbrough v Swansea City : Match day thread (Updated Thurs) on 16:11 - Aug 10 with 1320 views | GVJack | I didn't manage to catch the game but if the match statistics are anything to go by looks like we were clearly second best in pretty much every department. Only silver lining could be maybe, just maybe the powers to be can see investment and new intakes are needed urgently.
Middlesbrough v Swansea City : Match day thread (Updated Thurs) on 16:13 - Aug 10 with 1304 views | DaPs166 | Funny how the stats say 5 shots 0 on target when we clearly had 3 shots on target. Still, the stats show that we are not effective enough. 64% possession, only 5 shots and lose 1 nil isn’t good. People are way too negative as it’s only the first game of the season. However, we needed to sign more players in the summer. Time will tell if that’ll hurt us up until January. We will probably finish mid table this season. Although I really want to believe we can go up.

‘again and again the passing was ridiculous for professional footballers’ That was a major part of our display today. They were so lackadaisical at times it’s as if they’d jogged from Swansea to Boro.

Excellent resume Sone would have accepting this result prior to the game That is where we are now . Conditioned to lose and accept it as sone part of a blueprint for the future l Sorry but ,for me,Luke is yet another bs merchant and one who has not and cannot coach if improvement of players is a part of the job. Exactly who is better? More are worse I just hope he buggers off soon ,seriously .
