Feel a bit guilty about singing “he’s short he’s fat he’s had a heart attack Joe kinnear”. Back in the 80’s

That is very sad. Remember him making his debut for Spurs’ must be getting on for 60 years ago.

Always sad when anyone passes.

I thought he already had. Poor chap.

I can't remember but he reminds me of Dave Bassett type character ie its all about the noise.

Both football men whose main method of being was not really about football.

RIP Joe

Another victim of the wretched Alzheimer's disease.

Had Wimbledon firing on three fronts in the late 90s, two Cup semi finals and in the top four of the Premier League before Kinnear had a heart attack and it all went to sh*t.

Incredible achievements in hindsight. A club with a tiny fanbase, no home to call their own and the lowest budget, punching incredibly high. Won't be seen ever again.

I remember early on in Ray Wlkins first full season in charge with QPR and Kinnear's Wimbledon team totally dismantling us at Loftus Road. I knew then we were in the sh*t and so it proved.

Played a big part in the attempt to turn Wimbledon into a Dublin Franchise. Hard to forget something that bad.

I met him in the bar of a Dublin hotel once, the night Ireland beat Italy in the 1994 World Cup. I’d been there all day for a wedding, he and Frank Stapleton had nipped in for a pint after working on the RTE broadcast of the game. Seemed a lovely fellow, but I was too far gone to remember anything the two of them said.

What was Stapleton like, Sheener?

He is renowned for being serious, including while he was our Reserves Manager.

Cascarino, his International room-mate, wrote about him in his excellent autobiography that Stapleton was the kind of man who'd get up in the morning, walk to the bathroom and smile in the mirror. Just to get it out of the way for the day!

You can imagine how excited everyone was after the wedding and the game. We swarmed over the two of them, but you wont be surprised that Frank wasn’t interested and kept his eyes down on his drink. Joe was all bonhomie and charm, clearly didn’t mind the attention.

Rather enjoyed the man - fck knows what he'd have called me if he'd have discovered I referred to him as Jokingear.

I think if he'd done it to us it's what we'd remember him most for.

Glad to hear above that he was a nice fella, but that was a seriously poor thing to do a football club, especially one where he had been so admired and where you'd imagine he had many friends.
