Swansea City v Southampton : Matchday Thread 23/24 on 14:41 - Jan 18 by RichardO

No welcome for Martin I'm afraid, with no backing in his last transfer window he managed to have a good spell at the end of the season with the same players but changed his side to offer some unpredictability leaving the opposition to work out how to play against his team.
Good managers have to work out how to play against different teams changing tactics to suit.
Martin mention he has gained from the experiences he has had, shame he didn't learn earlier with us, hopefully Williams will have enough experience of Martin to work out how to play against him to our advantage.

He inherited a better squad which will make him look like a better manager. I'm not that convinced he has the football brain to master the tactical side of things. He seems a good man manager though. Lets see...

Martin may be a better coach now given the experience gained with us.We have to work out how to nullify their best players and exploit their worst, just a bit of food for thought Manning was one of our better players going forward but often forgot his defensive duties hopefully Williams has people in his ear to exploit Martin's previously exposed tactical weaknesses allowing his players to expose themselves to the counter high up the field.
Might be a bit hard to do but Frank exposed Man City's weakness in the fact they didn't have a type of centre half to compete with Toney's pace, height or power and got his players around him to support and punish City's weakness,Twice!

Think it is too soon for Williams given his short time here to out do Martin's team but Sheehan's team hung in there and were just about still in touch with Southampton at half time until we played silly buggers at the back to throw the game away.

Fingers and toes crossed Anybody know what our team will be because the right hand side is bit of a mystery?

Employ the WBA tactic to an extent, with hopefully a few strategies from Luke and if the wind blows favourably we have a chance.

He’s learned you can only play this way when you have the players able to do so.

Defensively we are shambolic. There’s a lot of work to do here and I’d start at the back and develop the defensive unit.

When we sell our better players every season and buy less talented this will always be the result. The club call it a project…the new managers call it a project. I think it’s the norm at our club.

I thought you said Martin was useless.
He made £160 million for them in the summer, yet they are still up the top.
Dare i say he might be a good coach.

Martin didn't make them 160 million. The players sold were there before martin and it wasn't hs decision to sell them, I bet he'd have loved to have kept them all. They still have a stronger squad than us too, as we can clearly see, better players all over the pitch.
