I thought Southampton's defence looked suspect and Cardiff's midfield looked weak. Hence both of these teams are beatable.
Our problem is our Wingbacks. Ozzie is not quite good enough in defending or attacking. And Paal is getting caught a little for pace and Fox does not fill in the gap quick enough.
We need Dunne and JCS to come in for Fox and Cook. While Cook has done great, Dunne is better in my view.
I love Ozzie, but if the mythical Cannon turns up then over time it will be him over Ozzie I presume.
I think hopefully we shall be the annoying team that should be beatable every game and we start beating teams we shouldn't! |  |

Cook is the cog that moves the wheel and is going to be one of the first names on the team sheet if he can stay healthy .
He is not afraid to take charge and ask refs about decisions without being a dick which is refreshing .
Jimmy will take a while to get up to game speed but he will be thrilled to have some big hard nuts beside him .
We still are not locking it down tight enough so hurry up JD.

The league is weird though. I’m still not sure Cardiff are good, nor Preston.
I’m surprised how good Hull look.
I’m surprised how well Plymouth are going.
I’m surprised Blackburn are as strong as they are.
I’m surprised Boro are down the bottom.
Basically, I can’t get a read on the league yet.

Fox isn’t. He looks suspect to me. JCS is a much better player, if fit and available.
Dunne Cook JCS is the best back 3, I think.

I wouldn't drop Cook in hurry either because he seems to be organising the back line well. But he was only a fraction of an inch away from scoring an own goal Friday with that desperate heel block. Think he's done similar before and also in effect scored an own goal in the Sunderland game I think it was when he diverted a shot Begovic had well covered into our net. He has things he needs to work on like the others, hopefully these mistakes are partly due to him not having played a while before he joined us. | | | |

With Fox it's his tendency to get caught under the ball that seems to be his main weakness. Had at least 3 goal kicks of free kicks from deep turn into really dangerous situations in last few games as he misread and got underneath it or jumped in and was easily beaten to a flick-on (Brum game a prime example I think.) Also seems a little prone to jumping into tackles and getting turned easily at times.
Lots of excellent defending from him as well alongside the misjudgements of course but Dunne-Cook-JCS is the best back three we have in my opinion.
Cook, to me, is clearly the best CB we've had since Richard Dunne. Hope Jimmy learns loads off him - similar in a way to how Dunne turned Chief into a formidable CB at this level for a while. |  | | |

Yes since Cardiff lost to us, they have played three times at home, won all of them, scoring 7 goals. If they hadn't conceded a last minute goal at Leeds they would be doing even better. [Post edited 25 Sep 2023 11:38]

So, in a nutshell, you agree that Cook's been great but you'd drop him anyway because you suspect that he'll tire in future? To date he's shown no sign of tiring and, even if does, this is why you have a squad. If Cook's form drops off then by all means consider an able replacement but at the moment he's one of the first names on the team sheet.
As for JCS, he's been around long enough for us to know that he's fragile and therefore unreliable. You said it yourself, "he's often injured". Everything else is irrelevant beyond this as it's impossible to make a case for the inclusion of someone who is rarely fit over someone who is available every match, irrespective of age.
