Bellingham is just a class act. We might just be able to win a tournament with him in the team. I actually feel for Maguire, he really needs to leave United.

As a side note, absolutely love the Scotland shirt. Simple but great design.

Didn’t Maguire reject a move to West Ham because he didn’t want to take a pay cut? If so it’s difficult to sympathise too much.

I was a bit baffled by that, if they have been watching Eze at all they know whilst he can play left side/wing he is far more effective coming through the centre.

When you look at the midfielders England have now, Eze might have to settle for whatever position he’s given.

Kane and Dykes on the same pitch but worlds apart in class.

At least Lyndon shouldn’t be too tired for Saturday.

I don't get your point? Are you expecting a £2m signing from Livingstone to be the next Harry Kane?

We know he's limited, but he's better than most and all we have and gives it everything. And he's a rarity in being a decent player who has signed a new contract.

Get behind our Lyndon!

If that's the case then he's an idiot. Even Southgate has to have a limit on picking him if he's never playing.

The team played very well last night and there were a few proper decent performances ....Bellingham's best game for England but Dunk, Walker, Rice were well decent and a few very good displays from a few players, didn't think anyone looked 'out of place'. Dopey Southgate moaning about the 'stick' that Maguire is getting but what does he expect - he should of done far better with the OG and is not playing well at all but he still picks him. Why??? (I do not agree with giving him abuse during the game though).

Scotland were very average.

I can't believe Lewis Dunk is playing for England. Not that I've ever seen much of him playing to know how decent he is, I just remember him playing for Brighton against us at Loftus Road where he repeatedly tried to snap Ale Faurlin in half to the point that eventually Ale got fed up and tried to throttle him. Given how mild mannered Faurlin always was you must really have had to push him to get that reaction - which no doubt attempting to snap a man in half who has already suffered three ACL's will do.

I can't see where Eze gets in the England team. Grealish has got to come back and he has been one of Englands best players for the last year then you've got Bellingham, Foden and Saka and I can't see him getting in instead of any of them> I think his England future is off the bench at best unless he goes to City and Pep improves him even more.

Agree. At what point are modern footballers satisfied with what they earn? Someone like Maguire has already earnt many times over what he's ever likely to spend in the rest of his life before taking into account future income they will earn from investments they've made (if they've been financially savvy).

Even if West Ham 'only' offered him £100k a week, he's still earning £5m a year for kicking a football about and a few hours training a week.

I’ve just spotted that Thomas Müller scored his 45th international goal in his 123rd appearance last night, a 2-1 win over France. What a career! Something for Bellingham to aim at.

Grealish?? Totally flatters to deceive, he runs and falls over is all I see. Eze is a much better player imo.

It was because Man Utd had to give him a pay off as part of his contract and didn't want to pay it, they told him to just go without it so he told them no and stayed. Was a couple of million quid apparently so although he should have moved for his career I don't think many people would just write off that sort of money

Sterling to come back as well and Maddison but I think he'll get his chance, probably not as a starter for the Euros but maybe the next World Cup. Just to get into this squad in his position is some achievement at the moment

Sorry I can't agree. As much as I love Eze and as much as Grealish does go to ground a lot he has far more influence on games than Eze and shines in a Man City side with countless other stars. Eze has got a way to go before he can be considered as good or influential as Grealish, Foden and Saka. He's better than Maddison and Gallagher though!
I left Bellingham out because he's first on the team sheet from now and on another level altogether!

Actually said player for player Scotland are as good as England and that Bellingham should be replaced by Maddison. You have to laugh

I didn't think he did to be fair. I thought he said England are way better player for player, and he was waxing lyrical about Bellingham. He does rate maddison and thinks he should be in the team, but I don't think he said instead of Bellingham

So….. my fault as I couldn’t be arsed expanding on, what on the face of it, was an obvious statement about different class between the two of them.

However, is overall effort a measure for what class is?

I just felt that Dykes was not putting himself about as much as he could have been at the top of the pitch in the last 15 mins when England were fannying around at the back.

I get it that he has been injured and coming back to fitness and obviously don’t want him crocked when he comes back to us, but I felt he just let the game pass by him for the last 15 min rather than hunt every ball down.

I never deliberately want to dig out one of our players but felt he didn’t do himself any justice in front of a massive audience.

He's a strange one is Lyndon. You watch him sometimes, Sheff Utd H last year a good example or West Brom A, and he's flying around the place being a big, physical, pain in the backside for the defenders, everything you want really, proper line leader. And then other times he may as well not be there. And you don't need to be particularly good or confident to charge around belting people, which is one of his main strengths, so I don't really get why some weeks he's on and some weeks he's not. Part of the reason why he plays for us and not somebody better though.

The style of play isn’t really ideal for him as a starting player. Given Kane is a guaranteed pick it makes a ‘10’ slightly redundant hence Southgate shoehorns players out wide who would ideally play behind a striker e.g. Maddison. We should be building the team around Bellingham and his best position is as that most attacking of the three in midfield IMO with quick players either side (Rashford, Saka, Bowen, Sterling if on form). Saka basically guaranteed to play wide right. Rice obviously deepest and then there’s one midfield spot up for grabs which isn’t really his role. Why Ward-Prowse can’t get a game over Henderson or Gallagher is anyone’s guess.

No reason Eze can’t be a nailed on squad player. More versatile than Maddison and well ahead of Gallagher in any position.

Gallagher is a Mason Mount Mk II in my eyes. Don't know what he brings to the team at all.

England aren't likely to win a major tournament until they sort out a secure defence. Maguire + Guehi, Dunk or Tomori doesn't seem solid enough, although Colwill may push through over the next 2 years. Walker has hinted at retirement with no clear cut alternative. Are Shaw, Trippier or Chilwell good enough on the left side.
The midfield is spoiled for choice but Kane is 29 and there aren't any obvious successors.

Am I just being over pessimistic?

I don't watch the premier League so can't comment, but Grealish has 2 goals in 32 matches for England , for a forward player that's not good! I just don't see what the fuss with him is all about ! For me one of the most overrated players in the England Squad.

I sort of agree.

Around the time of the last euros I thought Grealish was class, and couldn't understand Southgate's reluctance to use him. Arguably since then, given he's now a regular in a Pep Man City side, he must have improved even more. However, the more I see them, although I still think he's a very good player, he's not quick, his goal numbers are not as high as you'd expect from him and his passing range is ok, but not exceptional. An Eze/Maddison would find the defence splitting pass more often that Grealish IMO.

Cut in from the left, get annoyed with oppo player tugging your short/harrying you, then spray a side foot pass across the pitch to a teammate or hit the deck and moan at the ref. I can see why he suits Pep as he retains possession very well and as I said is still a very good player, but I don't think he has it in his locker to become a world class player but as biased as I am, think an Eze could, and think Foden, Saka and Rashford will. I don't see huge improvement/development potential with Grealish, I do in the others.
