Chelsea, having just spent about 800 mill on players have withdrawn the £10 coach fare subsidy for their saintly supporters.

They should have leased the coaches for 10 years to get around that

Surely they should buy 100 coaches and loan out 80 of them.

Total fiasco will he be another bench warmer or does he just replace an even more expensive member of the squad, they really have lost the plot. I'm sure there's been real quality in their own Academy that has not even been given a chance because the supposed top Premiership clubs need instant success and that means playing the transfer tombola, when will they stop.

Not academy per se but remember how they very unceremoniously dumped Mo Salah and Kevin de Bruyne. Not sure if those two ever amounted for much...

Funnier still I'd suggest, having got good money for Lukaku and David Luis, the doppy sods spent millions buying them back.

Fcuk 'em!

Yeah. Pretty much spot on I'd say.

Especially this bit:

"...the key driver for younger consumers is not the relationship with the club but a connection with star players, who are the future of this sport under the US model. It doesn’t matter if any of this is true. What matters is that the people buying into football, buying into Chelsea, believe it to be true."

This definitely jibes with the football playing/watching under 30s I'm familiar with in these parts.

A measly £250,000 is all the coach subsidy costs a season. What a saving that’ll be every year.

I'm seeing more and more youngsters supporting players rather than teams. Whoever Ronaldo plays for, they'll buy that shirt until he moves on somewhere else then they'll buy that one. Saw quite a few kids (and a couple of saddo Dads too) in Kos the other week wearing Al-Nassr/Ronaldo shirts.

This has also been fuelled by online presence such as youtube & tik tok. It's all about the player.

Same with Messi, Mbappe, Neymar etc etc

Yup. My fitness coach is 26. He plays football ("soccer") at the highest amateur level locally. Which given that the game is the most popular participatory sport in these parts means he's pretty darn good. When not playing or working he watches the EPL, Spanish, Italian and French leagues all the time. He's adored CRonaldo pretty much his whole life, and was devastated when he moved to Saudi Arabia, because he figured he'd never get to see him again except in internationals. When I told him on Monday that Saudi League games were being shown on DaZN it literally made his day.

The teams* don't matter, it's all about the players.

*Actually that's not true the teams, as a collection of players, do matter to him it's the clubs that don't.
