Supermarket beers 12:38 - Jul 21 with 1708 viewscolinallcars

Continuing with the beer threads. Do you buy supermarket beers to drink at home ? If so, which ones.
Myself, I like Adnams Suffolk Bitter (5%) which is brewed for M&S. A bit dearer than most but worth it.
Waitrose have a good choice and often have special offers.
I also buy from Big Smoke brew company and have it delivered - highly recommended.

I'm currently working my way through a keg of Jupiler, whist hoping it doesn't start the gout off again

Morlands OldCrafty Hen from Tesco. I usually have one when I make my version of Palestinian falafels. I'm not much of a drinker these days, my other tipple is Yellowtail Cab Sauv or Shiraz which I drink about 4-5 bottles a year.

The grass is always greener.

Recently discovered the Four Pure 5.4% IPA for Lidl - £4.50 for 4 330ml cans. It's very drinkable.

I'm a big fan of Beavertowns Gamma Ray but at 8.50 for four it's taken second place to the Four Pure for now.

Not too many for my liking - all a bit weak & gassy; however, the odd one or two stand-out

* McEwans Champion Ale - strong & dark
* Dragon Stout (Sainsbury's)
* St Bernardus Abt 12 (Tesco - Trappist ale)
* Leffe Brune
* Westmalle Dubbel

I haven't tried it yet but 'Steinhäuser German Lager fom Aldi is getting rave reviews from craft beer forums and you tube channels .

Crazy cheap at £6.49 for 6 x330ml bottles and compared favourably in those reviews to the borstal daddys of German pilsner , ' Warsteiner', 'Spaten' and 'Krombacher'.

The Irish Government have inflicted minimum unit pricing on the off-licence drinking public, so you can't avail of cut-price bargains anymore. I have embraced local artisan beers, and my current supermarket bought beer of choice is an IPA called Chieftain, made by a brewery in Cork. I don't know whether they export it, but it's well worth sampling if you get the opportunity.
