Wimbledon Drinking….. 08:59 - Jul 10 with 2618 viewscolinallcars

Officials have asked spectators not to pop open bottles of champagne as players are serving.
This was, of course, a constant problem at LR last season as deliriously happy fans celebrated around the ground.

Never been a big fan of tennis but I did watch the odd match if there was something on the line for it, like a world record or if Andy Murray was in the final or something. The problem now is that Djok, Fed and Nadal have sort of ruined it for a decade or so as anyone coming up now will be so far behind what they've achieved.

It's a bit like how Rangers/Celtic must feel every time the title run gets reset from 9 to 0.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

If you've never been to Wimbledon tennis, make sure you experience it at least once. a fantastic day out that was on my bucket list.

I thought this was about which pub to go to before the friendly at Plough Lane.

Yeah me too
I was going to say, when I went there in 2021 home end, they have loads of space inside the stadium and good drinking and food options including the Phoenix pub on site which hosts a local brewery tap room. Not sure if home and away fans will be segregated for a friendly, hope not.

There isn't much around Plough Lane these days.

One thing I wish I had done when living in London even though I'm not really into tennis.

There used to be a plethora of good Youngs pubs in the area. I guess they're still there but of course Youngs beer is no longer the nectar it used to be.

used to do the overnight kipping under a newspaper thing many, many years ago ... got Centre Court/Court No1 tics every year we went tho ...
Saw Becker, Agassi, Lendl, Krajicek, Steffi Graf, Sánchez Vicario and a load of others... Something really special when you walk in there for the first time.

Been surprised just how many empty seats there have been this year, considering how many people want to be there (the ballot, the queue, etc.). Something is seriously wrong with the allocation.

I have noticed the same, especially during Alcaraz and Djokovic’s games. I understand late at night because people have to get back for trains, but there should be no excuse in the daytime.

Djokovic, Federer and Nadal have been brilliant for the sport. They've spurred each other on and taken the game to new heights. To have won so many grand slams with such stiff competition is a testament to all 3. As for the next generation, Alcaraz must be licking his lips at the prospect of Djokovic and Nadal joining Federer in retirement. He'll have a good chance of emulating their achievements if some serious competition doesn't materialise.

That's a good point about the segregation. Hadn't thought of that.
My mate who is a Dons fan sorted out the tickets so I'm sitting with him.
Do you think I'd be alright wearing QPR shirt there or is that a no-no?
It's only a pre-season friendly.

Who knows?
A mate of mine who is also a Dons fan is going and he reckoned only one side of the home end was going to be open anyway so, I reckon with all the extra tickets QPR have requested, they'll me more QPR fans than Dons. Be dumb if they don't let the QPR fans use all the facilities and spend their money. I hope its a good day and like to say it don't matter what shirt you're wearing anywhere in the stadium... but then it only takes a couple of dickheads...
