Balogun? 16:58 - Jul 6 with 25702 viewsstainrods_elbow

Like Mr Martin, it appears that he's been released only to be, er, retained, because - stone the crows - we're a basket case of a club. Regardless, he's currently 'back out on the grass' and apparently working 'incredibly hard' to get fit, according to GA.

I don't really know what to think about the guy - he's 35, seemingly as injury-prone (and sometimes clanger-prone) as they come (to us), and then there was that argy-bargy with the away support last season. On the other hand, he's experienced, internationally credentialled, looked pretty good for a short while under Beale (sorry), and we all know it's likely to be a bit Keystone Kops this year, so maybe it's better the devil we know. Perhaps he could be our Frank McClintock 75-76, or even 76-77. Trust we in GA on this one?

If it were a choice of Martin or Leon, I guess I'd plump for the latter - though I can't help feeling if either of them are the answer(s), we're asking the wrong question.

Sigh!

I think Rob Dickie suffered from having 4 managers with different expectations in two seasons. I think he will do well at Bristol because I think Nigel Pearson likes a big orthodox centre back who does what it says on the tin (I'm sure our friend from Bristol will correct me if I'm wrong). It's a shame that he has moved on because GA seemed to get him firing in one or two of the last games and ultimately he helped to keep us in the division (unlike Balogun).

Rangers dump him as no longer good enough. Another injury prone year later they take him back. Great times to be a Celtic fan.

A talented player who is always injured.

He thinks a lot of himself as he knows his talented but ... we shall never see it or anyone else as he's always injured.

Talks a lot of nonsense to disguise the fact that he's .. yep ... always injured.

Remember, it was all our fault that he was always injured as he doesn't know his own body despite being ... yep ... always injured.

Give him the Matty Rose Award, he's earned it!

Over their careers, Matthew Rose averaged 11 MORE first team league games PER SEASON than Leon Balogun has.

Let that sink in. It's not fair to besmirch the glass man's name in the same sentence as this parasite. Balogun makes poor old Matty look like Rocky Balboa.

That is shocking, but it should also be noted that Matthew Rose’s record was never as bad as made out!

Think it was, he averaged pretty much 50% games available for his 10 or so years with us.
I seem to remember his manager calling us out over his availability and actually gave us the figures, something like over 200 games played in 10 years!
In fact I’ve just look it up, 242 games in 10 seasons, pretty much exactly 50%!

Matty Rose made the following appwearances for us (including substitute) according to Gordon Macey:-

1997-98 18
1998-99 31
1999-00 31
2000-01 30
2001-02 40
2002-03 32
2003-04 22
2004-05 28
2005-06 16
2006-07 12 (left in January 2007)

I wouldn't regard those figures as being bad enough to be labelled as "sicknote"!

I'd love to have someone of his ability playing over 30 games for us this season!

That's still 40 more than in the ten seasons that Balogun's been a professional.

It seems the two seasons he spent playing for Sevco FC were freaks where he managed 69 and seemingly managed to remain fit for more than two games running.

To be fair, Cambers, playing for a builders merchants can’t be too demanding! I’ll get the tea on.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Telling that you placed "including substitute" in brackets because that's the key phrase here.

Matthew was so fragile that even John Gregory joked that Prav had only left QPR to join Wasps because he had nothing to do after Rose was released.

As for Leon 'Bludger' Balogun, good riddance, pal. Even under the current circumstances, you won't be missed.

It's not going to be one of those player sales where the footballer in question is immediately loaned back to the selling club, is it?

I'm glad he's gone, I hope the club now focuses on replacing him with someone who treats QPR with respect and who actually wants to play for us, not just take our money.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Only 23 of his appearances was a substitute.

He was at the end of his career when John Gregory became his manager for three months!

Shows how stupid some our fans are to compare this guy to Matthew Rose. At least he WANTED to play for the club and didnt fake injury or confront fans

Now Bosingwa on the other hand... Him and Balogun like 2 peas in a pod!!

So who on earth did we take him on? Don’t we do any kind of career background review before bringing players into the club…. JCS, Balogun, Roberts, etc. suggest the answer is ‘no we don’t’!

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

Being ‘available’ and actually getting an appearance aren’t the same thing though are they. Those stats don’t tell you how many times he was fit but just didn’t get picked or was an unused sub. I think we might all agree he wasn’t the most gifted player so it wasn’t like he always played if fit.

Balogun was a bealeshitter signing, nothing more, nothing less. He'd played at Sevco Rangers FC when boilface was assistant manager. As I pointed out in my post above, somehow he managed 69 games in two seasons there so as far as PBBC was concerned he probably considered him a reasonably reliable, solid signing.

He puts his foot down and says he wants him as he was a free agent and Hoos and Ferdinand roll over and let him have his own way.

Balogun probably had a better appearance record for Rangers than anyone else he's ever played for because he's only playing against Sunday league footballers for most of it where they hardly have to break a sweat.

Put him in a position where its competitive play each week and...nope he breaks.
