Jeremy Clarke RIP 21:03 - May 22 with 2949 viewsMrSheen

As a weekly Spectator columnist for the last 20 years, less famous than the other two this weekend, but a huge talent. An extraordinary light touch in drawing humour and humanity from the mundane, weakness and pain, not least in describing his own ghastly medical ordeal of the last few years. If you’ve never read him, do yourself a favour.

Cancer, terminal. Do yourself a favour and read this incredibly moving piece of his from just over a month ago:

What an incredible chap. The force of life that comes through is simply staggering, really makes you appreciate just how lucky you are if you're well, and just how beautiful life is even when you aren't.

Kept both his legs, unlike his illustrious predecessor. The rest of him, mind...

Heathen that I am, I’d never heard of Jeremy Clarke until this post.

Headed over to the Spectator site and read a few of his pieces. Man, what a writer he was - I feel I’ve been missing out.

Thanks for posting, I’m looking forward to enjoying his legacy.

RIP JC

I met him once, at a press Christmas party, and he told me he was a dustman. I read two of his Telegraph pieces, about being a dustman, and about towing a caravan, which were among the funniest things I've ever read. I didn't follow his later career, though - I now wish I had. The English Charles Bukowski, perhaps.
