Rotten to the core? on 14:27 - May 21 by Watford_Ranger | I’d imagine he’s on £300-400k a week. Ludicrous, obviously, but the going rate for probably the best striker in the world. When he goes to Madrid in a few years it’ll be far more than whatever they actually paid. |
It’s actually closer to £900k per week which is why no other club got near signing him despite the relatively low transfer fee due to a release clause. And remember that City have been accused of trying to mislead the Premier League by paying players and managers from different sources (the club and Abu Dhabi). This is part of the reason for the 115 outstanding charges. I don’t think people have realised how serious these accusations could prove. If found guilty they’ll probably have titles stripped.
Rotten to the core? on 22:24 - May 21 with 1613 views | daveB | All the big clubs spend fortunes, Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and even Arsenal spent fortunes in recent years before you even look at European teams. I do enjoy watching City play, how Pep keeps them motivated, moves players on like Sterling and Jesus without missing a beat is fantastic, best manager ever imo, was summed up well on Sky today he's not only won loads he's changed the way English football is coached and played down to non league. Seeing how he's improved players like Stones says so much about him Hope they do the treble, a brilliant team to watch I do get the FFP issues and a lot of these charges predate the Pep era so will be interesting to see the outcome.

Rotten to the core? on 20:57 - May 21 by traininvain | Part of the problem is that we don’t actually know what City have spent as the Premier League allege that the club has not provided ‘accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position’. 115 charges outstanding and who knows when we’ll find out if they’ve cheated or not. And that’s without getting into the whole sports washing argument. But I suppose at least it’s not Chelsea winning the league, champions league etc! |
This has always been my take, the best thing about City is they are not Chelsea and they prevent Chelsea from freely buying trophies as they used to.
Rotten to the core? on 02:37 - May 22 with 1468 views | VancouverHoop | The top 1 to 6 teams in each of the top five European Leagues are playing on a different level to everyone else with way better resources. The sooner they leave to start their own competition the better for it'll be everyone. Sadly I don't think it'll happen soon or easily.

It's cheating pure and simple. I abhor FFP but you can't have the likes of Derby and Reading relegated while City win everything and get away with it. I would also dispute his greatness - it's far easier to play great football and improve players when you have the best players, have the backing and resources of a corrupt nation state, and can literally cherry pick the best talent like Haaland. They had a £50m signing making his first league start yesterday! They're a symptom of all that's wrong with modern football - uncompetitive, amoral and overhyped.

just had a quick look at Prem spend for the 22/23 season and City are 9th (€150.50m) on the list. I know its all relative as they have broken the bank in the past but still a surprise to me. Top of the shop and way out in front, spending an eye watering €611.49m where our friends from up the road... Which makes their plight this season even more hilarious... Gutted they got Pochetinno as manager :(

Man Utd, PSG and others can all buy the best players as well but that doesn't mean anything, to get them playing this way and keep winning is something special. His Barca side remains the best I've ever seen I do get the whole cheating thing but I'm just talking as a football fan I love to watch them think they are a great side, if they've cheated it's partly because the rules are heavily weighted in the established clubs favour but they should of course be punished if found guilty | | | | Login to get fewer ads

They weren’t the first and they won’t be the last. How do Real Madrid,PSG and Barcelona get away with it? Chelshite were the first to try and buy trophies consistently when the Russian crook came in,unless you count Jack Walker buying the title for Blackburn, and now everyone is doing it to either get to the premier league,or to stay there. If it pushes Chelshite further down the table I think it’s a good thing, but you can’t have only some clubs allowed to get away with it and some other clubs in the championship punished for it.

Over half a billion spent. Frank Lampard x2. Bottom half of the table. Come on, what's not to like?

Everyone likes them because of that and turn a blind eye to how it's done. Give it a few years and everyone will be sick of them too.
Rotten to the core? on 13:04 - May 23 with 804 views | slmrstid | The thing about Man City isn't just spending more money than everyone else (the Chelsea spending £600m this year comparison), its how they've been doing it. Its all very complex, but it surrounds artificially inflated contracts for sponsorship and players/managers being paid by entities that aren't the club to get around rules, as well as lots of other stuff. I'm not sure how much I could speculate without risking Clive in theory being exposed on libel etc, but in my mind its all much more akin to a large fraud investigation, than it is just "more money than everyone else".
