Michael Olise ex Hayes FC linked with PSG 18:40 - May 9 with 4227 views | ParkRoyalR | Yet another young talent born and went to school in Hayes, by the time QPR managed to get round to look at him aged 8 he had already been contacted by Arsenal, Ok we're slow off the blocks, no surprise, but after Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City youth spells he's available and goes to Reading! All the while Les Ferdinand (ex Hayes FC) and Chris Ramsey (Ruislip based?) are missing these opportunities on their / our doorsteps. This just cannot be all about budget all the time, like Chris Mepham, like Raheem Sterling who had to bus it to and from the training ground in Hayes from Harlesden from the age of 12 on his own, wtf is going on.

Michael Olise ex Hayes FC linked with PSG on 18:57 - May 9 with 4129 views | Lblock | The youth set up at QPR has been a joke for as long as I can remember It’s got progressively worse and from what I hear is currently a laughing stock in the pro game. Shiney new buildings (that also fall short in spec) will not fix this. The stories I’ve heard from people just prove to me the club is a circus from top to bottom. The only person who seems to excel in his job is Andy Evans - great bit of community work but it doesn’t get you three points. I really hope it’s a long hot summer this year

When did Les start recruiting our youth players? And why are none of the current bunch ever at Spurs? Feels odd. Reading had a CAT1 Academy when Olise joined them, we didnt..

Surely a pathway to 1st Team Football is a bigger lure than whether an Academy is a CAT1 or CAT2? And this for me is where Les should show his worth, similar to stories about Ferguson dealing with very young players and their parents (Ryan Giggs etc being lured from City to United) Les should be the difference between joining our Academy and Reading's, he can show them his pathway at QPR, how our Coaches will support them, invite the parents to match-days etc Too many times you read of missed opportunities, about the likes of Sterling taking 3 buses to our training ground, if they didnt recognise his talent and value to pay for his cab fare, no surprise we havnt had a youth player progress above League 1 level for years (and I dont include Eze as he was out of options and had been everywhere else before he fell into our lap, seems even we couldnt feck that one up)

I'm sure it is, the pathway at Reading is fantastic and hence he got his chance. Loads of young players there do. They lost that CAT1 last year and got relegated so I'm only worried if it happens in the future, not in the past. I guess you are saying you know for certain we didn't even try and offer him a contract then which is a shame at least.

No, we are his local club as was born and went to school in West London and played his youth football in Hayes on the door-step of our training ground and Arsenal spotted him before us! So, when he comes free again 10 years later in 2019 at age of 18 odd, probably back living at home in West London we lose out again, this time to Reading whereas Ramsey + Co are running a very expensively staffed Academy on his door-step. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Do you think he would have progressed here at the same pace as he did at Reading? With Eze blocking his path? Of course, it would have been wonderful to have had the pleasure of seeing the development of both players, but we already had Chair in situ to take over the role. Ideally it would have been great if we had spotted him & offered him a contract, but just because he comes from Hayes doesn't mean that he would have liked to join us. Perhaps we did.
Michael Olise ex Hayes FC linked with PSG on 22:30 - May 9 with 3514 views | actonman | What you have to remember is there are a lot and I mean a lot of young kids playing at different levels and different leagues at different stages of their physical development , some look great until they start playing with bigger kids and some who develop late unless you are stand out special in which case bigger clubs are hand picking them for their puppy farms anyway . Even if we get lucky and develop a lad who suddenly looks a prospect , the likelyhood is one of fullham , Chelsea , spurs , arsenal , palace would be a better prospect and offer more in terms of opportunity even if they were from a family of die hard rangers fans. You see how the likes of brentford take another approach as it’s a business for the bigger clubs and not worth the multi million pounds required to compete . Basically you have to get lucky with a late developer or a drop out from one of the above puppy farms . This is why we need to think outside the box and find a way to navigate round the system somehow or tap into foreign players maybe like America as they all play “soccer “ up to high school age then move onto their own sports

The players coming thru for us are not even that good as we struggle to even get them loan moves to L2 sides. Just hope when they open the new academy they've got the sense to run a shuttle bus to nearest tube so young players are not put off by an arduous commute after school like Raheem Sterling had to endure.

Just did a quick check and there are 65 teams registered in the FA Middx Youth League from U9 and lower.. I know that none of the players my son played with or against ever went onto any form of football playing professionally and he played from 7 up to 16 but there MUST be a player there somewhere. Who is going to volunteer to do the training for the appropriate qualifications and then go and watch all of them next season to find the next local player?

There are a lot of issues with the academy and the club but I think blaming them for not spotting an 8 year old 5 years before they came to QPR is a bit mad

Who's doing that? Not sure you read the 2nd paragraph before pre-judging, the point being maybe 4 years ago, half-way into Les and Ramsey's much lauded tenure, a player local to our Academy is released by Man City and chooses Reading over us, with us being on his doorstep and investing hundreds of thousands of pounds in salaries for these two to sell our club. If Les and Ramsey are unable to sell our club over Reading, what is the point of our Academy, as we will continue to lose players to Reading, Watford and the other London clubs. Work-wise we regularly pitch against the larger competitors but we regularly win these pitches as we work focus on our USP (usually our people and track record), I'd be delighted to hear when our recruitment team have over-performed and secured the signature of a young talented player as they sold him a pathway to 1st team football.

it happens, we will miss out on some players who turn out to be good and sign some that other clubs turned down. I've no idea if we were in for him or if he turned us down or we just weren't aware but it just feels like another stick to beat the club with when we have no idea what happened. Reading have a really good academy built over the last 20 years which has a good reputation and is the top category for a reason. the training facilities are excellent they are in a far stronger position to get these kids than we are

My only criticism of the club is that our owners seem to have 'star-fxxker' syndrome or whatever its called, where they surround themselves and listen to an ex-star in the Les mould telling them what they want to hear, rather than a Warburton type who tells them what they don't want to hear. Like Les as a bloke but his track-record at the club is woeful, and for mis-managing the Barbet contract alone I'd sack him. This club will not move forward until they move him on and I've said that over the last few seasons, where others have disagreed, as much as I think he's a nice fella.

I'd agree Les needs to go this summer but who they replace him with and what they do next is a terrifying thought as I'm not sure they have the slightest clue what they are doing still. It's an appointment they have to get right

You have to factor in that we have lost 13 players to other clubs from our Academy over the last 10 years. That includes Harvey Barnes and the England U17 keeper who played against us for Spurs in the FA Youth Cup.

Yes, 100% on Harvey Elliott who we lost to Fulham I think, didnt know about the Keeper, But if we are to make the £20m new Academy work we need to massively up our game and stuff bluffing how successful we are at promoting players to the 1st Team, We can see its not happening and if the staff are not on a significant element of performance related pay, they should be, as bottom line its not producing results.

So lets take the harvey barnes one shall we..... Les moaning about him being poached and there was nothing we could do because of our CAT status. So we set about building a lovely new training ground. What would be the number one priority you'd have in play for the Yoot/Academy when designing and budgeting for this new facility? For me it would be ensuring we have CAT1 status so we are not losing these stars we are unearthing for zilch. Instead the club go cheap as ever. For me nothing has changed apart from a building and some okay pitches. Same coaches, same excuses.

Perhaps if the owner wasn't pumping £2m a month in to keep the club alive there may have been more inclination to build a Cat 1 facility. Each one of the pitches at Heston cost around £1m so you know the bond issue barely scratched the surface of how much the Heston site will eventually cost. If the club ever becomes self sufficient, I would at least 50% certain that they would look to put the staff & dormitories in and upgrade to Cat 1.
